{"title":"A Case Report of Talipes Cavus-Type Plantar Fasciitis Treated with Acupotomy and Fascia Chuna Therapy","authors":"Wonbae Ha","doi":"10.30581/jcmm.2022.17.1.47","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.30581/jcmm.2022.17.1.47","url":null,"abstract":"Objectives : This case study aimed to investigate the effect of acupotomy and fascia chuna therapy on talipes cavus-type plantar fasciitis. \u0000Methods : We classified the foot arch type using a podoscope and estimated the out- come by evaluating the numeric rating scale, pain disability index, and EuroQol-5-di- mension measurement. \u0000Results : After treatment, heel pain decreased and the quality-of-life score improved. \u0000Conclusions : This study suggests that treatment with acupotomy and muscle en- ergy techniques based on the foot arch type may be effective for plantar fasciitis. A limitation of this study is the small number of cases. The risk of bias was assessed using the Cochrane risk of bias tool. \u0000Results : Meta-analysis showed statistically significant results for CMT in terms of effective rate and breast filling degree compared to the other treatment groups (p<0.05). \u0000Conclusions : Our study showed clinical evidence of CMT efficacy for postpartum hypogalactia. A system- atic review showed that Chuna manual therapy can have a curative effect on patients with Tourette's syndrome. \u0000Conclusions : In this study, 13 RCTs reported that Chuna manual therapy was effec- tive for Tourette's syndrome. These findings provide a basis for its clinical use. However, all studies involved populations belonging to the same country. Many stud- ies lacked details of the research methodology. We used five Korean online databases (OASIS, KISS, RISS, DBPia, and ScienceOn) and three foreign databases (PubMed, Cochrane Library, and CNKI). Out of 99 studies that were found, we excluded repeated articles, studies that were not related to Korean medicine, and those not relevant to the topic of the study. \u0000Results : Ten randomized controlled trials and 20 case studies were selected. Eight traditional Korean medicine treatments, including acupuncture, herbal medicine, chuna, and herbal ointment, were used in these studies. The most commonly used treatment was found to be acupuncture. \u0000Conclusions : Our study showed that traditional Korean medicine for medial collateral ligament injuries was effective. However, there were some limitations. Additionally, insufficient evidence was supplemented with expert consensus using the Delphi method. Based on the literature review and expert consensus, the aca- demic committee of the Korean Society of Chuna Manual Medicine reviewed and summarized the Chuna technique recommendations that can be applied to stroke patients. \u0000Results : There were six studies on Chuna manual therapy in stroke patients, and Chuna therapy was applied for pelvic, shoulder, and elbow joint spasticity. The expert Delphi survey did not agree with the application of the nine of the 69 standard Chuna techniques and deliberated on matters to be considered when applying Chuna man- ual therapy to stroke patients. We included only randomized controlled trials (RCTs) investigating manual therapy for the treatment of asthma in children and adolescents. The methodological quality of the included RCTs was evaluated using the Cochrane risk-of-bias tool 1.0. \u0000Results : Four RCTs were eligible for inclusion. Meta-analysis could not be performed due to the heterogeneity of the studies. One study showed the statistical significance of SMD 0.41 (95% CI: 0.06, 0.76, p<0.05) in the comparison with the osteopathic therapy group and the sham control group before and after treatment on the same day of peak expiratory flow. \u0000Conclusions : This possibility was observed in a non-pharmacological approach to manual therapy.
