Materials and Methods: A methodological study was conducted to adapt the DES scale to Turkish language in Gaziantep University, Faculty of Dentistry. The study group consisted of 392 students in the academic year 2018/19. The students were surveyed using the DES scale, translated into Turkish language. The demographic characteristics were analyzed by using descriptive statistical analyses. Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin and Bartlett’s Test of Sphericity were employed to evaluate the suitability of the dataset. Exploratory factor analysis was performed to assess construct validity. Depression Anxiety Stress Scale-21 was used to predict the power of the scale. In reliability analysis, the instrument’s internal consistency and corrected item-total correlation, Cronbach’s α reliability were studied. Results: Content Validity Index of the scale items was found to have a high validity range of 0.97. Two items with an estimate value less than 0.4 were excluded and 30 items yielded five factor. Five factors having eigenvalues greater than 1.0 explained 52.299% of the total variance. Each factor showed adequate internal consistency. Factor loadings ranged from 0.46 to 0.77. In the concurrent validity, significant positive relationship was found between DASS-21 and Turkish DES. Conclusion: According to psychometric properties, the Turkish version of the DES presented good results, thus it could be a valid instrument to assess the perceived stress in Turkish dental students.","PeriodicalId":43017,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Advanced Oral Research","volume":"9 1","pages":"214 - 221"},"PeriodicalIF":0.7,"publicationDate":"2021-01-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88213010","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Materials and Methods: An in vitro study was conducted at Mansoura University, Egypt. Eighty premolars were collected and randomly classified into four groups (n = 20 each) as follows: Group 1. Control (sound teeth), Group 2. Demineralized, Group 3. Demineralized and treated with nanohydroxyapatite (nano-HA) varnish, Group 4. Demineralized and treated with casein phosphopeptide–amorphous calcium phosphate (CPP–ACP) paste. To detect the rate of remineralization on the surface of treated specimens, energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) analysis was used in conjunction with the scanning electron microscope (SEM). The SBS was measured with a universal testing machine. One-way ANOVA test was carried out to analyze differences between the tested groups. Result: SE micrographs of Group 3 and Group 4 specimens showed smoother and less porous enamel surface than that of the Group 2 specimens. EDX analysis showed highest calcium (Ca) (25.47%) and phosphorous (P) (12.76%) values for Group 4 while Group 2 showed the lowest Ca and P values (16.96%) and (10.20%), respectively (P < .001). Demineralized enamel showed lowest (3.70 MPa) SBS mean value compared to sound (10.69 MPa) and remineralized enamel (Group 3—9.90 MPa, Group 4—10.32 MPa) (P < .001). Conclusion: Nano-HA and CPP–ACP have equal remineralizing effect on hypomineralized enamel lesions and positive influence on SBS.","PeriodicalId":43017,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Advanced Oral Research","volume":"80 1","pages":"127 - 133"},"PeriodicalIF":0.7,"publicationDate":"2020-12-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"72657725","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Materials and Methods: Crowns fabricated from three different resin-ceramic CAD/CAM blocks, applied on a typodont premolar (#14), were tested with regard to marginal adaptation, in this in vitro study. The typodont maxillary first premolar was prepared to serve as the master die and digitized with an intraoral scanner. The same virtual crown design was used to fabricate all specimens. Forty-eight crowns were fabricated from the same virtual crown design using three different CAD/CAM resin-ceramic blocks as follows (n = 16): Lava Ultimate (LU), GC Cerasmart (GC), Vita Enamic (VE). Master die and crowns were scanned with a laboratory scanner and three-dimensional data were transferred into three-matic software. The software calculated the mean of the marginal discrepancy (MD) for each crown in negative and positive values, representing under and over estimation of the crown margin, respectively. A marginal discrepancy index (MDI) was obtained for each group using negative and positive MDs. All data were statistically analyzed using one-way analysis of variance and Tukey’s honest significance test (α = 0.05). Results: The analysis of variance showed no statistical differences between materials regarding the negative and positive MDs (P > .05). The MDI for LU was lower than GC and VE (P < .05). Conclusion: The marginal adaptation of different resin-ceramic materials was different with regard to MDI values. Nevertheless, the MD values of all groups were within the clinically acceptable range.","PeriodicalId":43017,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Advanced Oral Research","volume":"79 1","pages":"112 - 118"},"PeriodicalIF":0.7,"publicationDate":"2020-12-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"77791777","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Materials and Methods: This split-mouth randomized controlled study involved patients with bilateral partial edentulism and vertical bone loss in the posterior mandible. In each patient, the control side was treated with autogenous block bone graft harvested from the mandibular ramus and, on the test side, the screw tent-pole technique was employed, using particulate allograft in combination with injectable platelet-rich fibrin. All augmented sites were covered by leukocyte and platelet-rich fibrin membrane. The primary outcome variable of this study was the radiographic changes to bone height 6 months after augmentation. The secondary outcome variables were the percentage of newly formed bone and the implant survival rate. The data were analyzed with a significance level of α = 0.05. Results: Of the 13 patients included, a total of 11 patients (7 females, 4 males; mean age 50.92) completed the study. The mean values of vertical bone gain were 1.72 ± 0.78 mm for the test group and 2.83 ± 0.89 mm for the control group, which constitutes a significant difference (P = .008). The percentage of newly formed bone was 18.08% ± 2.17% for the test group and 14.26% ± 1.76% for the control group. The difference between the groups was statistically significant (P < .001). The implant survival rates were 100% for both study groups. Conclusions: Based on the study results, screw tent-pole can be considered a feasible technique for bone augmentation. Further randomized studies will be necessary to fully evaluate vertical bone augmentation using the screw tent-pole technique, with different graft materials and with larger samples.","PeriodicalId":43017,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Advanced Oral Research","volume":"1 1","pages":"159 - 169"},"PeriodicalIF":0.7,"publicationDate":"2020-12-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88969960","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Quality-adjusted life years (QALY) gained for these patients were also determined. Materials and Methods: Patients newly diagnosed with periodontitis (n = 165, 58.8% females, mean age 43.3 years) were recruited from periodontal specialist clinics. They received CRPT within a period of one year. We used the EuroQoL 5 Dimension (EQ-5D) and the Malaysian Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP-14) indexes to measure changes in quality-of-life after one year of periodontal treatment. We then used these two scores to calculate their respective utilities and subsequently calculated QALY and QATY. Results: Proportions of deep periodontal sites (≥ 4 mm) decreased from 32.7% to 23.2% and patients gained an average of 0.3 mm of clinical attachment level per tooth at post-treatment follow-up. Improvements in means of OHIP-14 scores from 20.30 to 12.7 were consistent with changes in EQ-5D utilities from 0.81 to 0.91. Treated teeth gained 20.4 years for longevity while patients gained 17 QATYs. This is in line with the increase of 3.8 QALYs. Both treatment outcomes and clinical parameters were statistically significant at P < .0001. Conclusions: The method of estimating QATY using utilities derived from OHIP-14 combined with tooth life expectancy demonstrated that it may be used to measure effective treatment outcomes and is found to be consistent with improvements in QALY scores as calculated using EQ-5D-3L.","PeriodicalId":43017,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Advanced Oral Research","volume":"32 1","pages":"119 - 126"},"PeriodicalIF":0.7,"publicationDate":"2020-12-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"73361395","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Materials and Methods: A search questionnaire was formulated using population intervention comparison outcome (PICO) analysis, and a comprehensive search was initiated in PubMed Central, Medline, Cochrane, and Google Scholar databases for the related topics. Manuscripts published till December 2019 were included in this review. Out of the 63 articles obtained from searching all databases, 27 studies were excluded based on the title and abstract. Out of the remaining 36 studies, 12 were excluded based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria of our interest and 24 were included on the basis of core data. Results: One review author identified randomized trials meeting inclusion criteria for this review. Two review authors extracted data and assessed study quality. The oral health-related quality of life in completely edentulous mandibular patients wearing implant-supported overdentures was better when compared to conventional tissue-supported complete denture, and a minimum two implant-supported mandibular complete denture has sufficient improvement in oral health-related quality of life. Conclusion: There are about more than 170 reviews and clinical trials that have been published in support of the same for the past two decades. Thus, the clinicians may not be tempted in placing additional implants in well-formed mandibular edentulous ridges. To enhance the understanding of mandibular implant overdenture treatment, clinicians must scrutinize the existing evidence and formulate a protocol by striking a balance between efficient and evidence based treatment.","PeriodicalId":43017,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Advanced Oral Research","volume":"75 1","pages":"7 - 23"},"PeriodicalIF":0.7,"publicationDate":"2020-12-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"72982208","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Materials and Methods: The present study is a cross-sectional online survey done using Google Forms tool which was shared amongst 501 participants via e-mail and various social media platforms. It consisted of 42 structured questions regarding sociodemographics (seven questions), knowledge of COVID-19 (seven questions), practices regarding COVID-19 preventive methods (five questions), knowledge regarding cross-infection in dental clinics (nine questions), attitudes toward infection in dental clinics, and increased cost of treatment due to added disinfection protocols (14 questions). All the associations were tested using the chi-square test and with the P-value set at <.05. The significance level was taken as α = 0.05; therefore, a difference or association with P-value <.05 was considered statistically significant. The linear regression model was used to relate demographics with the knowledge attitude practices items, and Pearson’s correlation coefficient was used to evaluate the correlation between knowledge, attitudes, and practices. Results: A total of 478 responses were assessed. 92.2% of the respondents had high knowledge regarding COVID-19, and only 48.1% had a high knowledge score regarding infection control in dental clinics. The respondents exhibited high scores for practice related to COVID-19 (83.9%) and attitude toward infection control in dental clinics (91.9%). Using the Pearson’s correlation coefficient, knowledge attitude practices variables showed a significant correlation amongst each other (P < .001). Only 60% responded that extra infection control protocols will increase the treatment charges, and approximately 30% responded that they will not pay or were not sure of paying the extra charges. The proportion of respondents who were agreeing about paying the increase cost were independent of age (P = .226), gender (P = .328), education (P = .085), and profession (P = .121). Conclusion: A significant percentage of patients today have a lot of knowledge of COVID-19. Also, they have higher expectations than before from their dental health care providers regarding infection control.","PeriodicalId":43017,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Advanced Oral Research","volume":"3 1","pages":"95 - 102"},"PeriodicalIF":0.7,"publicationDate":"2020-11-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"90035648","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Materials and Methods: A retrospective study involving 79 multiple myeloma patients was designed to collect data prior to their autologous stem cell transplant. Patients were seen at the oral medicine clinic at the University of Florida College of Dentistry during the years 2010–2013. Through available patient data and interpretation of radiographs, the following variables were recorded: age, gender, carious lesions, periodontal disease, and periapical radiolucency. In addition, the incidence of root fragment retention and the presence of punched-out osteolytic lesions were recorded. Cochran–Mantel–Haenszel (CMH) tests and logistic regression were performed for descriptive analysis and presentation of the data. Results: Seventy-nine multiple myeloma patients were recruited for this study. Ages ranged from 28 to 79 years (mean = 61, SD = 9.6), including 41 (51.9%) females and 38 (48.1%) males. The results demonstrated dental decay in 64.56% of patients, periodontal disease in 62.03%, apical rarefying osteitis in 13.92% of patients, and punched-out lesions in 24.05% of patients. Conclusion: Our study indicates high dental morbidity in multiple myeloma patients prior to autologous stem cell transplant. The elimination of foci of infection is highly recommended prior to autologous stem cell transplant for this high-risk population because of the potential risk of bacteremia/septicemia from oral bacteria associated with dental morbidity.","PeriodicalId":43017,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Advanced Oral Research","volume":"8 1","pages":"153 - 158"},"PeriodicalIF":0.7,"publicationDate":"2020-11-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"84771950","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Materials and Methods: In total, 108 noncaries human third molar teeth embedded in acrylic blocks, grinded from the occlusal surfaces until dentin was exposed, and divided into 9 randomized groups (n = 12). In total, 108 ceramic samples prepared in disc shape (3mm × 3mm) from IPS e. max CAD (Ivoclar Vivadent) blocks. Four adhesive resin cements: Variolink Esthetic DC (Ivoclar Vivadent), G-CEM LinkForce (GC), Panavia V5 (Kuraray Noritake), Maxcem Elite Chroma (Kerr), and three flowable composites: G-ænial Universal Flo (GC), Herculite XRV Ultra Flow (Kerr), Vertise Flow (Kerr), and one preheated composite: Enamel Plus HRI (Micerium) luted to the prepared occlusal surfaces of the teeth with total-etch, self-etch, and self-adhesive protocols. Then samples were thermocyled (5,000 cycles, 5–55°C, dwell time 20 s). SBS test was performed in a universal testing machine (at 0.5 mm/min). Failure modes were examined under a stereomicroscope at ×25 magnification. Data were analyzed using Kruskal–Wallis and Dunn–Bonferroni tests (α = 0.05). Results: There were statistically significant differences among material types (P < .05). Highest SBS values found in G-ænial Universal Flo (15.43 ± 5.67), and the lowest values obtained in Maxcem Elite Choroma (SA) (1.25 ± 1.47).
