Also, cylindrical shape is one of shielding structures widely used in industry. In this study, cylindrical shaped shields with commonly available and inexpensive materials used for power frequency magnetic field shielding. The magnetic shielding performances are investigated experimentally for single and double-layer shields at power frequencies. The aim of this work is to extend the discussion in the area of shielding performance of the double-layer shields.","PeriodicalId":429968,"journal":{"name":"2008 Power Quality and Supply Reliability Conference","volume":"94 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-10-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125584261","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The 40 MW wind farm includes 20 individual 2 MW permanent magnet synchronous generators. The voltage at the transmission network terminal should be re-established with minimized power losses during wind speed fluctuations and after the clearance of grid side faults. This paper emphasizes on a modified decoupling control strategy which is implemented in VSC-HVDC converters to obtain variable speed operation and voltage stabilization in wind farm network and transmission network respectively. Simulations using PSCAD/EMTDC are performed to study behavior of wind farm, transmission voltage and dc voltage for different changes in wind speed and three-phase fault and a 20% voltage sag on transmission network. The simulation results confirm the connection method and the modified decoupling control strategy.","PeriodicalId":429968,"journal":{"name":"2008 Power Quality and Supply Reliability Conference","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-10-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116870537","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The system is simulated by ATP/EMTP program. A suitable fault detection window is introduced. The window width is the most sensitive part in the transient period. It is varying according to fault characteristics. The average impedance of the earth mode is calculated from voltage and current earth modes in the window. Based on the amplitude of the impedance, the feeder is confirmed to be faulted or not. The setting of detection is proposed from the simulation results that cover different fault inception angles and fault resistances.","PeriodicalId":429968,"journal":{"name":"2008 Power Quality and Supply Reliability Conference","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-10-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115997107","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The process of power quality analysis and diagnosis is a complex one for many reasons, including the complex modeling of power systems, the extensive amount of system data that is currently available through PQ monitors, and the lack of expert knowledge. Therefore, it is evident that computerized system analysis is vital for the realization of effective and efficient power quality diagnosis systems. In this paper two intelligent techniques are developed that perform power quality classification functions. These techniques are based on wavelet analysis, subtractive cluster algorithms and Artificial Neural Networks (ANN). Many signals are generated to simulate different types of power quality phenomena then wavelet analysis is applied to these signals. Different feature extraction methods are proposed to reduce the amount of processed data which dramatically improves the performance of the proposed PQ classifier compared to other techniques proposed elsewhere. The extracted features are then used to train different ANNs.","PeriodicalId":429968,"journal":{"name":"2008 Power Quality and Supply Reliability Conference","volume":"70 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-10-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116578699","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In case of lightning, the overvoltage protection of power distribution transformers has an important role. In case of special concern of voltage sags, the means to limit the short circuit faults causing voltage sags should be focused to the neighbourhood of the primary (110/20 kV) substation. To contribute this matter, this paper presents results of a study where spark gaps were replaced with externally gapped metal-oxide surge arresters near the primary substation. As well the theoretical studies as measurement results encourage to carry on with such investments.","PeriodicalId":429968,"journal":{"name":"2008 Power Quality and Supply Reliability Conference","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-10-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114928216","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
