The execution of spatial maneuvers are determined mainly by the dynamic properties of underwater vehicle particularly controllability and stability. The control surfaces are situated at the rear end of the underwater vehicle which moves either vertically or horizontally (pitch, yaw, roll, pitch-rate, yaw-rate etc.) used to steer the vehicle to run according to preprogrammed course as per logic till such a time the target is acquired. The underwater vehicle response is slow compared to air scenario due to constraints like higher density of water; the resistance motion is many hundred times greater than air. In this paper a rule-based fuzzy logic controller is designed for yaw control, which is used for the rudder movement of an underwater vehicle. A plant model is extracted using the input and output behavior and is assumed to the either linear time invariant first order or second order. Since the plant models obtained by the above process are very approximate, 50% variations are given on damping (xi) and natural frequency (omegan) of second order plant and similarly the gain and time constant are varied for the first order plant. The performance evaluation of fuzzy logic controller under the above varying plant conditions is done and the results have been presented and analyzed.","PeriodicalId":429889,"journal":{"name":"2008 IEEE Region 10 and the Third international Conference on Industrial and Information Systems","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126660255","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This has been collected from GEO data base of NCBI web-site (a genetic time series data consists of 5289 genes & 48 samples). These microarray data set represents the external manifestation of internal genetic network manipulation (as seen from central dogma). Discovering the hidden genetic network from microarray data is the prime objective of this paper. Since the number of data is huge, here first the microarray data set has been clustered into 135 clusters using k-mean clustering algorithm. This represents important information sets where each cluster is considered to contain gene set of similar expression level. The genetic network has been constructed using graphical Gaussian model i.e. GGM amongst the clusters. Thus network developed will help in detecting the culprit gene set, which will ultimately lead to `drug discovery'.","PeriodicalId":429889,"journal":{"name":"2008 IEEE Region 10 and the Third international Conference on Industrial and Information Systems","volume":"81 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125200080","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The combined effects of soft handoff parameters, truncated power control at physical layer and truncated ARQ at data link layer on throughput and delay performance of packet data under a prescribed delay constrain is studied. Truncated power control improves the performance by suspending transmissions of mobiles under deep fade along with soft handoff while further improvement is obtained by retransmission at link layer. A variable packet length scheme is studied where packet size is adjusted under different traffic and soft handoff conditions so as to maintain a prescribed level of packet loss associated with T-ARQ. Interactions between power truncation parameter and soft handoff parameters and their impact on data performance are investigated.","PeriodicalId":429889,"journal":{"name":"2008 IEEE Region 10 and the Third international Conference on Industrial and Information Systems","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126463854","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Basic symbols are recognized by neural classifier. We have used four feature extraction techniques namely, intersection, shadow feature, chain code histogram and straight line fitting features. Shadow features are computed globally for character image while intersection features, chain code histogram features and line fitting features are computed by dividing the character image into different segments. Weighted majority voting technique is used for combining the classification decision obtained from four multi layer perceptron(MLP) based classifier. On experimentation with a dataset of 4900 samples the overall recognition rate observed is 92.80% as we considered top five choices results. This method is compared with other recent methods for handwritten Devnagari character recognition and it has been observed that this approach has better success rate than other methods.","PeriodicalId":429889,"journal":{"name":"2008 IEEE Region 10 and the Third international Conference on Industrial and Information Systems","volume":"37 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121088361","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The transformer model winding for analysing simulated partial discharges is represented to consist of sections having series inductances, mutual inductances between sections, series capacitance across section and shunt capacitances between terminals of section to ground. The investigation have shown that PD location accuracies using travelling wave method are good for windings having `alpha' (alpha) values equal to or grater than 12. For low 'alpha' value windings (in range 4 to 8), use of suitable filters along with pulse integrators has shown improvements in PD location accuracies for length of winding upto 25% from end terminals of winding.","PeriodicalId":429889,"journal":{"name":"2008 IEEE Region 10 and the Third international Conference on Industrial and Information Systems","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116447117","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Partial discharge (PD) monitoring is one of the most effective techniques for insulation condition assessment of HV power apparatus. However, on-line PD measurements are affected by high levels of electromagnetic interference (EMI) that makes sensitive PD detection very difficult. Partial discharge monitoring system by UHF method is suitable for internal condition diagnosis of GIS due to its high sensitivity. However, interferences from noise sources such as corona and radio-frequency noise can affect the signal captured. Recovery of the PD signal by de-noising without degradation can be carried out through the application of wavelet transform by choosing the correct member of the wavelet family. Use of wavelet transform technique offers many advantages over conventional signal processing techniques such as filters and is ideally suited to process transients in high voltage testing and measurements. In this paper PD pulse extraction from noise by wavelet transform analysis through the choice of optimum wavelet transform is investigated. PD pulses and the noisy on-site testing environment were simulated through Gaussian white noise for applying the technique.","PeriodicalId":429889,"journal":{"name":"2008 IEEE Region 10 and the Third international Conference on Industrial and Information Systems","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134332860","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
