The core of Confucian enlightenment and education lies in its educational concepts. Based on “learning for oneself”, Confucius has formed his educational concepts, like training all-round qualified persons and teaching them to apply their learning to practical use, learning actively to perfect their personality, and cultivating both soul and body to maintain harmony. These concepts are related with humanistic education of teenagers. Putting particular emphasis on people’s quality is the essence of Confucian enlightenment and education, which should be applied to humanistic education of teenagers in a flexible and proper way so as to help cultivate talents needed by the society, who obtain not only modern scientific knowledge but also humanistic quality.","PeriodicalId":429857,"journal":{"name":"Studies in Sociology of Science","volume":"72 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-08-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"113968784","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A man will lose his status as a rational being if his human rights have been deprived. There are so many problems associated with human rights in charity activities in recent years, such as ignorance of the right to know, violation against the privacy right, and trample of the right of freedom, etc.. These phenomena are very universal, and they damaged the interests of citizens, tortured the Conscience of the society, and even challenged the dignity of law. The author considers that these phenomena are caused by a variety of reasons and could be solved by continuous improvement of human rights protection system.","PeriodicalId":429857,"journal":{"name":"Studies in Sociology of Science","volume":"37 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-08-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121917699","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The university should develop the practical and effective incentive mechanism based on actual conditions, which is the important guaranty for the teaching quality and the good reputation. The university developing an incentive mechanism on the basis of self-conditions embodies the human-oriented management ideology, which not only has practical meanings for the improvement of teaching effectiveness and the cultivation of students’ comprehensive qualities, but also generates positive impacts on teachers’ career planning and clear self-positioning in the long run. In this paper, authors firstly introduce the practical meanings of developing an incentive mechanism for teaching faculty management in universities, then analyze the current conditions of teaching faculty management, and at last propose targeted incentive measures and suggestions for this issue, in the hope of presenting valuable reference for related management departments and researchers.","PeriodicalId":429857,"journal":{"name":"Studies in Sociology of Science","volume":"48 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-08-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133565921","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It employed both qualitative and quantitative analysis in analyzing current public opinion poll data borrowed from: Angus Reid Global, the European Monitoring Centre on Racism and Xenophobia, the National Association of Muslim Police and the Arab American Institute. In addition, it analyzed current media reports that similarly illustrate Islamophobic trends after 9/11. Results indicate that the most dramatic increase in Islamophobic attitudes towards Muslims and Islamic institutions occurred in the UK immediately after 9/11, with a common theme exhibiting itself in comparing the various country reports and public opinion poll data examined in this study – namely, the involvement of factors such as Islamic clothing that commonly distinguishes Muslims from non-Muslims in inciting Islamophobia. In addition, results indicate that rather than decrease over time, as was initially hypothesized, Islamophobic attitudes are currently on the rise.","PeriodicalId":429857,"journal":{"name":"Studies in Sociology of Science","volume":"73 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-08-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116483202","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Infrastructure construction and the construction of social medical security system need a lot of money. Thus, the financing problem becomes the bottleneck of the development of the new urbanization. Fiscal expenditure and credit is the main source of funds of the new urbanization. So, this paper uses the time series data of 1952-2012 to analyze the relationship among fiscal expansion, credit and the new urbanization. The result shows that there is a long-term and stable relationship among fiscal expansion, credit, and the new urbanization. In addition, fiscal expansion is the granger causality of the new urbanization, and the new urbanization is the granger causality of credit. It indicates that fiscal expansion has played a positive role on the development of the new urbanization, while credit is still in demand following.","PeriodicalId":429857,"journal":{"name":"Studies in Sociology of Science","volume":"49 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-08-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131261128","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

{"title":"“Surfing Alone”: The Relationships among Internet Communities, Public Opinion, Anomie, and Civic Participation","authors":"F. L. Rusciano","doi":"10.3968/4713","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.3968/4713","url":null,"abstract":"Robert Putnam noted in his seminal essay “Bowling Alone” (1995) that the rich associational life that characterized Americans was being lost. He introduced the idea of “social capital”, or the formal and informal relationships among individuals, as correlates of social trust and civic engagement in a society. Robert Putnam neglected to note a more critical threat to social capital and traditional associations than “bowling alone”, however—the relatively new phenomenon of “surfing alone”, whereby individuals link to each other through the Internet. While this has often been hailed as a means of creating communities across spatial boundaries, it limits the face-to-face contact that has been critical to the political power of traditional organizations. As such, it provides an illusion of community that is a weaker counter-force to a dominant class. Further, as an international phenomenon, it has the potential to affect the levels of social capital on a global basis. This paper attempts to study the effects of “surfing alone” within the “internet community”, using data from the Saguaro Seminar at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. This project utilizes forty-one community-based samples from the study, for a total of 26,230 respondents in the United States. My paper concludes that the internet has a profound effect upon public opinion and civic associational life. To the extent that online contact replaces other forms of civic association, it promotes a public that is more isolated, less tolerant, and more susceptible to anomie than the traditional relationships.","PeriodicalId":429857,"journal":{"name":"Studies in Sociology of Science","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-08-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123082320","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
