In our study, we aimed to evaluate the characteristics and medical aspects of videos on YouTube about PR. METHODS: In the internet media website YouTube.com search engine, the Word PR was searched on August 3, 2021, without any filter. The first 100 videos listed were classified according to the number of likes, dislikes, origin of country, and content of PR. The materials were evaluated in terms of intelligibility using the suitability assessment of materials (SAM). User participation measurements were obtained for each video. RESULTS: The later years were shown to have a statistically significant relationship with respiratory techniques, PR contraindications, and videos with PR in COVID in our study (p<0.05). However, no significant relationship was identified between the later years and smoking in PR and videos with PR in the intensive care unit (p>0.05). The total SAM score was found to significantly correlate with the number of views, likes, dislikes, comments, and video durations (p<0.05). CONCLUSIONS: It was observed that COVID videos with PR content were uploaded with regard to the specific video issues and treatment needs during and after the COVID infection in the later years, especially after the pandemic. Moreover, videos with high comprehensibility are more interesting for users, reflected in views, likes, dislikes, comments, and video duration. Higher quality videos created by health professionals will be more useful for patient education in the future.","PeriodicalId":42933,"journal":{"name":"Eurasian Journal of Pulmonology","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67324994","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

METHODS: In this single-center retrospective observational study, we reviewed the radiological and medical records of 45 patients with confirmed COVID-19, requiring ICU admission during a 4 month period. The chest CT-SS was used to evaluate the severity of lung involvement. RESULTS: Forty-five patients who admitted to the ICU with COVID-19 and had undergone chest CT scans on admission were enrolled. There wasn't a significant difference in total CT-SS neither between patients who died and those who survived [median (interquartile range) 22 (11-30) vs 16 (9-18), p=0.20] nor between patients who underwent invasive mechanical ventilation and those who did not [median (interquartile range) 22 (12-30) vs 15 (8-17), p=0.17]. The median of CT-SS was 17 (2-39) (n=23 vs n=22). The area under the curve for estimation of mortality according to CT-SS was 0.611 at a 95% CI of 0.434-0.788 (p=0.20). CONCLUSIONS: The total CT-SS, obtained from the chest CT on admission to the ICU, was not associated with an increased risk of mortality in patients admitted to ICU with COVID-19 pneumonia.","PeriodicalId":42933,"journal":{"name":"Eurasian Journal of Pulmonology","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67323813","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 97 people who applied to Başkent University Hospital Family Medicine Smoking Cessation Outpatient Clinic between May 2019 and May 2020 were included in the descriptive cross-sectional study. A questionnaire form including demographic characteristics and smoking history, the Fagerström Test for Nicotine Dependence (FTND), and the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) were applied to the participants. A pulmonary function test was performed; carbon monoxide (CO) and carboxyhemoglobin (COHb) levels were measured of the participants. RESULTS: The mean age of the participants was 42.9 ± 11.9, and 56.7% (n = 55) were male. The average number of cigarettes smoked daily was 23.2 ± 10.6, and the duration was 23.2 ± 11.7 years. FTND scores of the participants were determined as 14.4% (n = 14) very low, 18.6% (n = 18) low, 22.7% (n = 22) medium, 21.6% (n = 21) high, and 22.7% (n = 22) very high. The mean of FTND score was 5.4 ± 2.5, and the mean of CO and COHb levels was 11.2 ± 7.0 and 2.4 ± 1.1, respectively (r = 0.345, P = 0.001; r = 0.342, P = 0.001). A positive correlation was found between the FTND and HDS scores of participants and observed that depression scores increased as the level of nicotine addiction increased (r = 0.303, P = 0.003). Finally, 54.6% (n = 53) of the applicants were a quitter. There was a significant relationship between smoking cessation success and the number of drug boxes used in pharmacotherapy (P = 0.005). CONCLUSION: In this study, the most critical factor affecting smoking cessation success is ensuring that pharmacotherapy is completed within the recommended treatment period.","PeriodicalId":42933,"journal":{"name":"Eurasian Journal of Pulmonology","volume":"23 1","pages":"152 - 158"},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2021-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44511907","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Pentraxin 3 (PTX3) is a novel inflammatory indicator that plays a significant role in natural immunity. In our study, we aimed to identify the PTX3 levels and its relationship with disease severity in patients with asthma. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Forty-two stable asthma patients with no comorbidity who had been previously diagnosed with asthma and were admitted to the outpatient clinic of chest diseases between December 2018 and June 2019 were included in the study together with 35 control subjects. The demographic data and the results of pulmonary function tests including the parameters of forced vital capacity (FVC), forced expiratory volume in one second (FEV1), and FEV1/FVC of all cases were recorded. The serum PTX3 levels were measured by the ELISA method. The patients with asthma were classified into three groups as mild, moderate, and severe, according to the Global Initiative for Asthma. RESULTS: Asthma and control groups were similar regarding age, gender, and body mass index. The FEV1 and FEV1/FVC values of the asthma group were lower compared to the controls. The PTX3 levels were significantly higher in the patient group with asthma compared to the control group (P < 0.001). The patients with mild, moderate, and severe asthma were similar regarding the PTX3 levels (P = 0.551). No correlation was found to be present between the PTX levels and the pulmonary function test parameters. CONCLUSION: PTX3 is an indicator that has the capability of showing airway inflammation. However, it is inadequate to determine the severity of asthma.","PeriodicalId":42933,"journal":{"name":"Eurasian Journal of Pulmonology","volume":"23 1","pages":"180 - 184"},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2021-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46460031","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the early treatment of patients with AECOPD, empirical antibiotic selection is very important for patient recovery. The aim of this study is to recognize the contribution of microorganisms resistant to conventional antibiotics therapy (MRCT) in hospitalized patients with severe AECOPD and to identify the risk factors and clinical characteristics associated with infection by these microorganisms. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This cross-sectional study was conducted on 100 patients with AECOPD. The total and differential leukocyte count, spirometric-indices, sputum gram stain, semi-quantitative sputum culture using the colony-forming unit, and assessment of the susceptibility of the isolated bacterial species to 25 antibiotics by disc-diffusion methods were done for all patients. RESULTS: MRCT was isolated in 57% of the studied patients. The most common isolated MRCT species were Klebsiella (50.8%), Pseudomonas (15.8%), Escherichia coli (10.5%), methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) (8.8%), Acinetobacter (8.8%), Citrobacter (3.5%), and Enterobacter (1.8%) which were significantly resistant to amoxicillin/clavulanate, piperacillin/tazobactam, azithromycin, erythromycin, tetracycline, doxycycline, clindamycin, and penicillin/sulbactam (P < 0.05). AECOPD patients with MRCT have significantly lower spirometric indices and eosinophil than those with microorganisms sensitive to conventional antibiotics therapy (MSCT). Increased chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) severity, presence of comorbidities, male sex, age/year, higher smoking package/year, and total leukocyte count cm3 were the predictive risk factors of infections with MRCT. CONCLUSIONS: MRCT was predominant among AECOPD patients, among them Klebsiella, Pseudomonas, and MRSA were the most common isolated species. Higher COPD severity and presence of comorbidities were the most significant risk factors for infections with MRCT in patients with AECOPD. Increased COPD severity had 2.571 folds increased risk for MRCT infection among AECOPD by odd ratio.","PeriodicalId":42933,"journal":{"name":"Eurasian Journal of Pulmonology","volume":"23 1","pages":"166 - 173"},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2021-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47390159","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim of this study is to describe demographic, clinical, laboratory, and radiological characteristics of patients who admitted to the emergency department (ED) of a chest diseases hospital and how we managed these patients. MATERIALS AND METHODS: ED admissions from March 11, 2020, to May 11, 2020 were retrospectively evaluated. Patients were divided into two groups as probable COVID-19 (P-COVID-19) and non-COVID-19. The data were analyzed and compared. RESULTS: A total of 223 patients, of which 31.8% were P-COVID-19 and 68.2% were non-COVID-19, were included. The mean age was 49.14 ± 18.05 years in P-COVID-19 group and 59.17 ± 17.32 years in non-COVID-19 group (P < 0.001). The most common symptoms in all patients were dyspnea (26.5%) and cough (21.1%). In P-COVID-19 group, cough, dyspnea, and fever were the most common symptoms, and the presence of fever was statistically significantly higher (P = 0.03). Increased C-reactive protein, sedimentation, and D-dimer levels were observed in 61.5%, 70.9%, and 52.6% of patients, respectively. Laboratory findings showed no significant differences between two groups. All patients underwent chest X-ray examination and 42.6% of them had pathological findings. 56.3% of P-COVID-19 patients had normal chest X-rays. Bilateral involvement on HRCT was more frequent in P-COVID-19 group than non-COVID-19 group (47.8% vs. 36.7%, P < 0.001). The presence of ground-glass opacity (GGO) was statistically significantly higher in P-COVID-19 group (P < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS: The presence of fever and GGO with bilateral involvement on HRCT could be used for the early detection and triage of suspected patients in ED.","PeriodicalId":42933,"journal":{"name":"Eurasian Journal of Pulmonology","volume":"23 1","pages":"185 - 190"},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2021-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47621058","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In recent years, the inflammatory response caused by diet has also been associated with asthma. In this study, we evaluated the association between the Dietary Inflammatory Index (DII®), weight loss, and asthma characteristics. METHODS: Obese asthmatic individuals (n = 55) were randomized into the diet (n = 29) or control groups (n = 26) for 10 weeks. The anthropometric measurements, nutrition consumption records (past 24 h), pulmonary function tests DII® were recorded and compared between groups. RESULTS: After intervention, the DII changes of the individuals in the diet group showed a negative correlation with the changes in forced expiratory volume in 1 s (FEV1), forced vital capacity (FVC), mean expiratory flow rate (MEF25–75), asthma control (ACT) and asthma quality of life questionnaire (AQLQ) scores (all P < 0.05). DII changes in the diet group showed a positive significant partial correlations (i.e. controlling for important confounders) with changes in body weight (r = 0.527; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.211, 0.725), FEV1, (r = −0.486; 95% CI: −0.695, −0.249), and FVC (r = −0.459; 95% CI: −0.688, −0.162). FEV1, peak expiratory flow (PEF), MEF25–75, MEF25 and ACT scores decreased with increasing DII from tertile 1 to tertile 3 (P <0.05). Palliative Prognostic Index (PPI) is a prognostic tool commonly used in palliative care for prediction survival. The aim of this study is to evaluate the accuracy of PPI for predicting survival in patients with advanced lung cancer. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Patients with advanced lung cancer hospitalized in a palliative clinic were included in this retrospective study. The PPI score was calculated by the doctor on admission day. The patients were divided into three groups according to their PPI score: group A: PPI ≤4, Group B: 4 6. All patients were followed up for up to 3 months. The survival analyses were performed using the Kaplan–Meier analysis. RESULTS: There were 177 (87.2%) men for a total of 203 patients with advanced lung cancer included in the study. The overall mean age was 64.59 ± 10.87 years; 97% of the patients died during the follow-up period. Their overall median survival was 17 days. The median survival for Group A (51 days, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 39.7–62.2) was significantly longer than Group B (16 days, 95% CI: 10.4–21.5) and Group C (6 days, 95% CI: 4–7.9). For a PPI ≤4 and 6-week survival, the sensitivity and specificity were 82.5% and 75.7%, respectively. For a PPI >6 and 3-week survival, the sensitivity and specificity were 57.7% and 91.3%, respectively.
