The structure is crucial in the transportation of fluid. This paper proposes structural design optimization method using response surface method (RSM) and investigates the results of Multi-Objective Genetic Algorithm and Screening design optimization of the structure. The RSM is implemented using deterministic inputs of the verified experimental results with the aid of genetic aggregation response surface in ANSYS Design Exploration platform. The results of performance response of the loaded CSPS structure considering the uncertainty of the design parameters, including the cross-sectional area of the cable truss, and pipe members were subsequently mined. This revealed that the cable sections and truss modules can effectively and efficiently improve the performance of the structure. The outcome also shows that performance the structure is robust. A set of “Pareto optimum solutions' ' were thus obtained based on the constraints of the design optimization, the yield stress of material properties and limit displacement of the structure. The results illustrate that the proposed optimization method provides a set of Pareto optimum solutions and guide for the robust design of the structure.

The trained model was then endowed with an interface to allow the designer to explore the design space within CAD software. Unlike the majority of current approaches to parametric design and optimisation, the exploration of the design space – and therefore the interaction between the designer and the computational model – does not take place via design variables, but through visual input. The potential of this tool to support the conceptual design of shell and tensile structures is examined through an application involving iconic design precedents. The application shows that, unlike form-finding and optimisation, this tool generates design suggestions that are not performance-driven, and do not require the statement of the boundary conditions, which would pre-determine the results. Despite this, such design suggestions can be considered plausible because they embed specific design knowledge resulting from a re-elaborating process of the main geometric features of the precedents used to train the AI model. These features include, for example, the shape of the openings, the number and location of the support points or the inversion of curvature, where present. The application results question the role of computational tools in conceptual design and illustrate an alternative strategy to explore the design space.

There is vast potential to create a rich variety of new architectural forms by introducing curved rulings into ruled surfaces. This paper\u0000 presents a new method to generate ruled surface variants by making a fundamental change to existing ruled surfaces through parametric reformulation and the use of curved rulings. A new type of ruled surface composed of curved rulings, the elastica-ruled surface, is proposed. An analytical\u0000 geometric modelling method is developed based on the transformation of line-ruled surfaces, enabling convenient generation of elegant shapes and forms for architectural applications. In this paper, curved rulings are represented by elastica curves—large, elastic, bending deformations\u0000 of a straight slender beam. We demonstrate that elastica curve design parameters can completely control the shape of an elastica-ruled surface and define a large set of transformation results. This study classifies elastica-ruled surfaces into five categories based on their shape characteristics.\u0000 Potential applications of elastica-ruled surfaces that consider elastic bending behaviour are presented, including bending-active structures, robot-assisted manufacturing and kinetic architectural designs. By extension, this study shows that adopting higher-order elastica curves can further\u0000 enhance the design diversity of novel architectural forms.

Without a doubt, one of the best tributes to this distinguished Spanish engineer, who founded the International Association for Shell Structures in 1959, is to remind him precisely in the pages of\u0000 the Journal of this international association. Not in vain, the IASS was born in his hands. Nowadays, thanks to the relevant work of everyone who has taken care of it since then, the IASS continues to actively lead the international vanguard of space structures. The Eduardo Torroja Foundation,\u0000 created in 2004 to ensure and disseminate his extensive and multifaceted legacy, inaugurated in 2016 the Eduardo Torroja Museum, which is in the Zarzuela Racecourse in Madrid, one of his most iconic works. Since then, man, his history and his legacy coexist and are sheltered under the same\u0000 cantilevered shell roof that continues to admire the world, as does the entire legacy of Eduardo Torroja. It is reported that when a tensile force is applied to a thin sheet with a slit pattern, three-dimensional corrugated surfaces are induced by the out-of-plane buckling. We\u0000 aim to apply buckling-induced kirigami to architectural- scale deployable structures by applying a rigid origami model, i. e., a kinematic model in which rigid bodies are connected by rotating hinges, to such kirigami systems. We propose a parametric family of kirigami structures where two\u0000 crease lines are added to kirigami connections. We show that the structures form one-DOF mechanisms by showing the kinematic equivalence to a degree-4 single vertex rigid origami. Also, we show that the structure within a specific parameter range can expand in two principal directions, and\u0000 thus macroscopically forms an auxetic (Poisson's ratio becomes negative) material through an analysis using singular value decomposition. Furthermore, we propose a family of auxetic cellular materials obtained by assembling these structures in multiple layers. Then, we show some results in\u0000 experiments on self-folding. Finally, we propose a method of using thick panels for this structure.
