As a result of the numerous institutionalized gender inequities that are ingrained in laws, regulations, socio-cultural beliefs, and practices, small-holder agriculture in Zimbabwe continues to be contested and gendered. Exploring lessons from the experiences of women small-holder farmers in fourteen villages in Sanyati District, Zimbabwe, this study examines how the “contours” of gender -political dynamics and relations continue to limit rural women in the mainstream small-holder agricultural sector in Zimbabwe. The study used a mixed-methods research paradigm with which data was collected through purposive sampling techniques, in-depth personal and key informant interviews. The study shows that women farmers in rural communities of Zimbabwe are struggling to control their activities from farmland ownership up to post-harvesting time. Hence, they continue to face discrimination regarding having farmland rights, accessing the markets, financial services, extension services and information. These challenges continue to reveal the existence of an unjust, undemocratic","PeriodicalId":42850,"journal":{"name":"Present Environment and Sustainable Development","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.7,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70912528","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The management of the epidemiological situations, regardless of the environment in which they occur, is, in itself, a major public health issue. The World Health Organization (WHO) reports confirm that the risk of contamination in the prison environment is similar to that in the residential environment. In general, the infection rates in prisons followed those of the population. This virus affects everyone, both detainees and employees of this system. Even in these special conditions, the Romanian prisons did not become sources of infection out of control. The present study will highlight the impact of this virus on the prison environment. According to the latest official reports of the National Administration of Penitentiaries (ANP), the vaccination of the prison population is confirmed in the proportion of 77.4% (currently over 16.0% of individuals being released). Following this pandemic, the ANP leadership together with the responsible national institutions are launching new norms and procedures with immediate applicability, in general, aiming measures to prevent the spread of the airborne diseases.","PeriodicalId":42850,"journal":{"name":"Present Environment and Sustainable Development","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.7,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70912647","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Rapid changes in these climatic balances affect the maintenance of living beings and human life negatively, both directly and indirectly. Climate change is also an important variable that affects different sectors and organizational activities. One of the critical issues affected by climate change is water. In this context, there is a need for sustainable policies that will adapt to the new challenges emerging under climate change. This study aims to scrutinize the effect of climate change on Türkiye’s water structure and resources in an effort to propose policy recommendations for long-term water management. To this end, the study examines the National Water Plan of Türkiye under traditional planning and/or management approaches (inactive, reactive, and preactive) and the proactive/interactive approach presented by Ackoff. The paper reveals that the National Water Plan of Türkiye consists of more strategies and policies with a reactive approach. Accordingly, it is recommended for Türkiye to give priority to “Proactive/Interactive” and/or “Preactive” strategies in climate change and sustainability.","PeriodicalId":42850,"journal":{"name":"Present Environment and Sustainable Development","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.7,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70912730","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Moreover, an interdisciplinary approach is required to the sciences contributing to planning for sustainable local communities. Nevertheless, current criteria governing science, particularly career promotion and research funding, overemphasize the contribution of research to scientific progress and economic growth, disregarding its societal impact. The new European framework research program and Romanian strategy for research promise a change. In order to meet this need, the current study aims to respond to this challenge by analyzing two examples of disciplines contributing to sustainable local development, yet disadvantaged by the previous strategies. We analyzed qualitatively urban/landscape ecology and humanistic geography based on their presence and representation in data from the Romanian Classification of Occupations, criteria used in academic and research career advancement, and funding programs, and phrased some recommendations for helping the development of similar research areas in the future.","PeriodicalId":42850,"journal":{"name":"Present Environment and Sustainable Development","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.7,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70912968","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Despite this trend, the technological challenges faced by small-scale brewery operators remain an under-explored area of research. This study aims to address this gap by examining the potential for operational failures through the perspectives of small-scale brewery managers. The research aims to provide insight into the complexities of supply chain management and the intricacies of economic processes within the craft beer industry. Additionally, the study seeks to evaluate the possibilities for sustainability within small-scale beer production. Given the exploratory nature of the study, a qualitative research design, specifically the constructivist approach of Grounded Theory Methodology, will be employed. The study will consist of in-depth interviews with the leaders of ten domestic and international small-scale breweries, focusing on market development opportunities, technological advancements, and sustainability. Small-scale breweries can be divided into three main components, which are closely related. Excessive losses during brewing, low automation and resulting food safety issues. The craft beer industry works with a loss ratio of at least 20%, which needs to be solved. The ultimate goal of this research is to propose innovative technological solutions that can improve the economic and food safety outcomes of small-scale beer production.","PeriodicalId":42850,"journal":{"name":"Present Environment and Sustainable Development","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.7,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70913187","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As this issue should be extremely concern of hotels, many studies have been conducted about these two terms in the literature. However, this study is the first one combining sustainable development, hotels, and tourism with a bibliometric approach. The aim of this study is investigating the interrelationships of these concepts and exploring how these concepts are used together in literature. Moreover, it is aimed to identify bibliometric patterns or trends. To be able to do that, VOSViewer software was used to construct and visualize the bibliometric networks. 314 studies obtained from WOS database were used as a dataset. Some of the metrics and analysis results of WOS were given and Citation of the Sources, Co-occurrence of the Author Keywords, Co-authorship of Countries, Co-authorship of Organizations, Citations of Authors, Bibliographic coupling of countries analysis were run respectively. Seven research questions were answered. Also, it was explained and illustrated how RCN Theory can be used for a better sustainable development in hotel industry and tourism by considering the bibliometric findings which is the added value of this paper. Finally, five suggestions were asserted for a future research agenda.","PeriodicalId":42850,"journal":{"name":"Present Environment and Sustainable Development","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.7,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70913650","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A variable environment is a permanent source of stress for the human being. To maintain the human body in a thermal balance is possible only if the thermo-regulatory mechanism does not make significant efforts to create a state of physiological comfort. The present study proposes an assessment of the Relative Stress/Tension Index (RSI) regime specific of the Eastern Romanian Plain, for the period between 1990 and 2020. This type of assessment is useful in adopting the most efficient strategies for the adaptation and mitigation to the bioclimatic conditions in the vulnerable regions. Applicability is possible through personal adjustments to cope with the heat stress, realistic planning of living, recreation and health care facilities etc. In general, the detailed assessment of the bioclimatic indices is interesting and useful in studying their space and time variation. It is also useful to apply a single reference scale for people to make appropriate decisions about exposure to outdoor conditions, regardless of the time of day. Along with the presentation of the weather, it is necessary to describe the conditions of the comfort or the physiological risk related to the climate.","PeriodicalId":42850,"journal":{"name":"Present Environment and Sustainable Development","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.7,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70913287","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
