It discusses how the triple identity of ethnographer-journalist-public servant complicates the analysis of these media outlets, creating an environment favorable to reflexivity. Based on the assumption that such media are a privileged space to observe the relationship between the political and journalistic fields, this study concludes that the ethnography advantages are related to the possibility of perceiving and understanding the hybrid identity of the observed subjects, and the researchers themselves. The political role of actors in this context is complex and emphasized in order to further the understanding of the social role of journalism.RESUMO – Este estudo analisa desafios, obstáculos e avanços teóricos e metodológicos que a perspectiva da etnografia das organizações pode trazer à pesquisa em jornalismo, com base em duas análises das mídias legislativas do Congresso Nacional. Discute-se como a tripla identidade de etnógrafa-jornalistaservidora pública complexifica as análises sobre esses veículos, criando um ambiente favorável à reflexividade. Partindo do pressuposto de que tais mídias são um espaço privilegiado para observar a relação entre os campos político e jornalístico, o estudo conclui que os ganhos da etnografia estão relacionados à possibilidade de perceber e compreender a identidade híbrida dos sujeitos observados, e do próprio pesquisador. No contexto estudado, o papel político dos atores é complexificado e colocado em evidência, o que amplia a compreensão do papel social do jornalismo.RESUMEN – Este estudio aborda desafíos, obstáculos y avances teóricos y metodológicos que la perspectiva de la etnografía de las organizaciones puede aportar a la investigación en periodismo, a partir de dos análisis de los medios legislativos del Congreso Nacional brasileño. The study analyzed the direction/slant, frequency, and prominence of news stories, feature articles, editorials, special reports, interpretative articles, and news analysis on the abduction as published in three major Nigerian newspapers. Using the content analytical technique, the study found that there was no day in the period under investigation that the issue of the abducted Chibok girls did not get attention in the press. The study also found that the press discharged its corporate social responsibility by setting and sustaining public consciousness on the injustice and inhumanity of the abduction. Furthermore, a connection was established between the unrelenting crusade mounted by non-governmental organizations, especially the #BringBackOurGirls movement, for the release of the abducted girls, sustained public interest provided by the Press, and the eventual government action that culminated in the release of 164 out of the 276 girls initially abducted. This study, therefore, recommends continued publicity by the media in its role as a social crusader to ensure that the remaining Chibok and other abductees are rescued from their Boko Haram abductors. RESUMO – Este estudo investigou como os jornais nigerianos contribuiram para sensibilizar e manter a atencao do publico sobre a questao das estudantes que foram sequestradas pelo grupo Boko Haram em Chibok, no nordeste da Nigeria. O estudo analisou o direcionamento/ponto de vista, a frequencia e proeminencia das noticias, artigos de destaque, editoriais, reportagens especiais, artigos interpretativos e analises de noticias sobre o sequestro nas publicacoes dos tres principais jornais nigerianos. Usando tecnica analitica de conteudo, o estudo identificou que, no periodo investigado, nao houve um dia em que a pauta do sequestro nao tenha recebido atencao da imprensa. O estudo descobriu tambem que a imprensa cumpriu sua responsabilidade social corporativa ao estabelecer e manter a consciencia publica sobre a injustica e desumanidade do sequestro. Alem disso, uma conexao foi estabelecida entre a cruzada incessante montada por organizacoes nao governamentais, especialmente o movimento #BringBackOurGirls, pela libertacao das meninas, e sustentou o interesse publico proporcionado pela imprensa e a eventual acao governamental que culminou com a libertacao de 164 das 276 garotas inicialmente sequestradas. The author’s definition of the notion of “creolized media text” was suggested based on a comprehensive study of the papers dealing with the topic of “creolization”. The main task of creating creolized media texts was described, in their verbal and iconic components and attempt to have a positive emotional influence on the readers. The survey revealed the following: within the biological block, the respondents aged from 16 to 19 are more distant from persons with disabilities, perceiving them with a certain disgust, while the respondents aged from 20 to 23 tend to be more tolerant. According to the analysis of the socio-psychological block, the respondents understand that persons with disabilities have every right to be productive members of society; however, they are not ready for direct communication and collaboration. Nevertheless, the analysis of the media block results showed a positive tendency in attitudes toward persons with disabilities owing to journalistic texts, which combine images and text. Therefore, the use of creolized media texts promotes a positive tendency and changes in improving the attitudes of persons without disabilities regarding persons with disabilities in Ukraine. A propria definicao do autor da nocao de “texto midiatico criolizado” foi sugerida com base em um estudo abrangente dos artigos que tratam do tema da “criolizacao”. A principal tarefa da criacao de textos mediaticos “criolizados” foi descrita nos seus componentes verbais e iconicos e na tentativa de ter uma influencia emocional positiva sobre os leitores. A pesquisa revelou o seguinte: dentro do bloco biologico, os pesquisados entre 16 e 19 anos estao mais distantes das pessoas com deficiencias, percebendo-as com certa repulsa, enquanto os pesquisados entre 20 e 23 anos tendem a ser mais tolerantes. De acordo com a analise do bloco sociopsicologico, os pesquisados compreendem que pessoas com deficiencia tem todo o direito a serem membros produtivos da sociedade; contudo, elas nao estao preparadas para a comunicacao e colaboracao diretas. Apesar disso, a analise dos resultados dos bloqueios mediaticos mostrou uma tendencia positiva nas atitudes em relacao as pessoas com deficiencia devido aos conteudos jornalisticos, que combinam imagens e textos. In addition to making the invisible visible, what is proposed here is to make the unspeakable visible by analyzing the overdetermination of the effect of intensity, proximity, and presence on news content. To achieve this goal this paper uses empirical data obtained from infographics printed in The New York Times (NYT) and Folha de S.Paulo newspapers on the covid-19 pandemic. This was chosen because the objective data in numbers and figures affect how true opinion is shaped and the infographics were recurrently employed (during our research period) by all media as an effective mechanism for understanding the facts. The empirical methodology is anchored in the perspective of tension semiotics that provides theoretical foundations for studying the sensitive dimension of interactional processes.","PeriodicalId":42816,"journal":{"name":"Brazilian Journalism Research","volume":"17 1","pages":"152-177"},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2021-04-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43330678","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
