Leibowitz’s article focuses on the androgyn figure Cherubino and his attempts to stimulate female figures around him, such as Susanna and the contessa, with musical means. The analytical essay, though never published due to the failed realization of Bataille’s planned magazine Genese , existed until now only in manuscript form at the Paul Sacher Foundation in Basel and is published here for the first time.","PeriodicalId":42754,"journal":{"name":"ARCHIV FUR MUSIKWISSENSCHAFT","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.1,"publicationDate":"2019-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"69133987","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":2,"RegionCategory":"艺术学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In a second step, both innovations are interchanged between the genres. The reasoning behind the argument concerning the conductus is based on pieces datable by their textual content, that for the organum is based on comparisons to the Vatican Organum Treatise. This leads to a rejection of Rudolf Flotzinger’s proposed dating (modal rhythm ca. 1210) and to an additional emphasis on the diversity of the genres.","PeriodicalId":42754,"journal":{"name":"ARCHIV FUR MUSIKWISSENSCHAFT","volume":"124 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.1,"publicationDate":"2019-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"69133855","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":2,"RegionCategory":"艺术学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For both composers, the development of serial music primarily arose from musical considerations, but beyond that, the invention of new compositional techniques also constituted an act of faith. Although their relationship to religion was at first essentially a private affair, limited to idealistic conceptions of music as representation of the Divine, both composers began to develop an interest in the functional use of serial and electronic music in the Catholic liturgy around 1955. The present article reconstructs this turn on the basis of recently published mutual correspondence and other archival materials. Included are also analyses of planned (Stockhausen) and realized (Goeyvaerts) mass compositions.","PeriodicalId":42754,"journal":{"name":"ARCHIV FUR MUSIKWISSENSCHAFT","volume":"45 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.1,"publicationDate":"2019-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"69134285","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":2,"RegionCategory":"艺术学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Taking into account Kuhnau’s copy errors, an analysis of Bach’s advice to repeat the second movement leads to the conclusion that his intention-alternating choruses that sing the repeat with the same text- had a self-referencial purpose in that all members of both choirs would then sing the aria “Gott, nimm dich ferner unser an.” Based on an array of evidence, the author asserts that this motet is actually funeral music for the St. Thomas Boy’s Choir themselves, on the occasion of the death of the first young singer Bach accepted into the ensemble.","PeriodicalId":42754,"journal":{"name":"ARCHIV FUR MUSIKWISSENSCHAFT","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.1,"publicationDate":"2019-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"69133892","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":2,"RegionCategory":"艺术学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
