Most of the scleroderma patients develop Raynaud's phenomenon that the fingers and toes feel numb, prickly and frigid in response to cold temperatures or stress. Due to fibrosis of the skin and soft tissues, scleroderma induces microstomia that clinically represents limited mouth opening which results in difficulty both for the patients and the dentists. Limitation of lip and tongue movements, xerostomia, gastroesophageal reflux disease, myofascial pain, dysgeusia, and periodontal problems are the most common oral health issues in scleroderma patients. Prosthetic rehabilitation of patients with a small oral orifice, such as scleroderma-induced microstomia may present difficulties. Patients with microstomia often complain of an inability to insert or remove dentures. This clinical report describes the semi-digital workflow of prosthetic rehabilitation of two partially edentulous patients with scleroderma-induced microstomia. Intraoral scanning was used for impression making and models were printed using a 3D printer. Both patients received a conventional removable partial denture. Intraoral scanning can be an alternative to conventional impression-making techniques and can be used safely in patients with microstomia for impression making.","PeriodicalId":42752,"journal":{"name":"Annals of Dental Specialty","volume":"296 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"72528688","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Laser-activated irrigation (LAI) is a method that is more effective than conventional methods in cleaning the canal and removing the smear layer. Compared to more traditional forms of irrigant agitation, a laser’s benefits are clear. A systematic literature review from 2010 to 2022 was performed using PubMed, Medline, and ScienceDirect databases. The keywords used were “endodontic retreatment,” “sealer removal,” and “lasers.” In addition, the PRISMA flowchart was used to describe the selection process of searched articles. Four out of nine included studies did not show any significant difference in the removal of sealers with or without lasers. However, the other five studies did show significantly improved removal of sealer remains from the root canals. Lasers can be used effectively to remove a majority of the remaining sealing materials from the root canals.","PeriodicalId":42752,"journal":{"name":"Annals of Dental Specialty","volume":"4 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78514157","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study aimed to assess the local community's actual use, attitude, and awareness toward the different remedies for treating oral problems. A structured, close-ended, self-administered electronic questionnaire assessed the attitude, awareness, and knowledge towards using home herbal remedies to treat oral problems among Saudi citizens. The link to the online questionnaire was distributed through social media, inviting participants to fill it out. All the collected responses were analyzed by applying descriptive and inferential statistics. A total of 434 subjects participated in this study, with equal gender distribution.. Almost (58.7%) of participants used one or more home remedies in treating dental or oral problems. Dental pain (78.5%) and teeth whitening (27.1%) were the main reasons for using herbal remedies. The most commonly used herbal remedies were cloves (75.3%), salt and water (%72.5), Myrrh (43.4%), and charcoal (19.5%). Nearly (42.2%) were uncertain about the side effects. More than half and three-fourths were uncertain of the efficacy of activated charcoal powder use in teeth whitening and the efficacy of baking soda powder use for teeth whitening. Similarly (82.7%) were uncertain of the efficacy of using turmeric to eliminate halitosis. No significant relation was observed between the use of any home remedy and gender, age group, or level of education (p>0.05). Home remedies are widely used in managing dental and oral problems. Clinical studies that investigate the effect of such preparations in treating oral problems are recommended.","PeriodicalId":42752,"journal":{"name":"Annals of Dental Specialty","volume":"2 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"90074868","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Many of these defects can be controlled, but at the same time, a patient also has to take a lot of precautions for the long-term preservation of any restoration. This is a retrospective study done using the patients’ files and examination of post-operative radiographs (bitewings). Convenient sampling was done, and 341 patients’ files were selected from Muneseya clinics after seeking approval from the Research center and clinic director. The presence of faulty restorations was of concern; the prevalence was found to be 35%. Anatomic form criteria to assess the quality showed that 63% of restorations were continuous with the existing anatomic form, 29% were discontinuous with the existing anatomic form, and 8% showed sufficient material being lost to expose dentin or base. The overall quality of the restorations done by the students was not satisfactory.","PeriodicalId":42752,"journal":{"name":"Annals of Dental Specialty","volume":"25 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"85231272","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
