Originally, increasing the speed of single wavelength transmission was the most sensible upgrade path when electrical regeneration was required at each node. This later gave way to long reach, optically amplified transmission where both the line rate and DWDM channel count could be increased. This later paradigm made it more favorable for carriers to invest in fiber optic infrastructure. We are at a fascinating time when we can foresee the ultimate limit to capacity increases on fiber as we know it. Possible directions for future fiber technology are noted.","PeriodicalId":427398,"journal":{"name":"The 19th Annual Wireless and Optical Communications Conference (WOCC 2010)","volume":"44 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-05-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133189921","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The 3R regenerator incorporates an amplified feedback laser (AFL) for all-clock recovery and a semiconductor optical amplifier delayed interferometer as the optical decision gate. 40-GHz optical clock with low timing jitter and uniform amplitude is successfully recovered from the degraded signal by the AFL. The degraded signal is restored by the 3R regenerator with the Q-factor improved.","PeriodicalId":427398,"journal":{"name":"The 19th Annual Wireless and Optical Communications Conference (WOCC 2010)","volume":"188 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-05-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133998956","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The existing studies have showed that clustering is a promising solution to data communication under the mobile environment, and especially the passive clustering (PC) technique is the efficient one compared to other clustering techniques. However, the original PC technique does not take into account the unique characteristics of VANETs, and thus it may face many challenges to inter-vehicle communication. This paper proposes three PC-based techniques, called VPCs, to determine the suitable vehicles to become the main participants in cluster structure formation. VPCs consider numerous metrics, such as vehicle density, link quality, and link sustainability. Simulation results demonstrate that VPCs collectively exhibit better performance than the PC technique in packet delivery ratio, delivery delay, and network throughput.","PeriodicalId":427398,"journal":{"name":"The 19th Annual Wireless and Optical Communications Conference (WOCC 2010)","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-05-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133529779","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Through physical layer networking coding(PNC)modulation, two-way relaying has been shown to improve the network capacity significantly. However for power-constraints application, the performance of two-way relaying is actually inferior to one-way relaying at low SNR environment. To solve the issue, the scenario of three nodes cooperative communication is considered in this paper.Assuming that perfect channel knowledge is available at the relay node, an optimal transmission scheme for two-way relaying communication is proposed. The transmission scheme, which is based on instantaneous channel link quality, is selected to offer maximum system capacity. The efficiency of the proposed solution is demonstrated by both analytical performance and simulations.","PeriodicalId":427398,"journal":{"name":"The 19th Annual Wireless and Optical Communications Conference (WOCC 2010)","volume":"75 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-05-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123243399","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Schaffa","doi":"10.1109/WOCC.2010.5510661","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/WOCC.2010.5510661","url":null,"abstract":"In this paper we use multi-media streaming as a practical example of how one could design a system for maximum re-use and present the implications of using this approach. While the idea of re-use is of course widely used, we found that many multi-media applications are dedicated to the specific task it was designed for and only the components of the application seem to get re-used in other applications. A lot of effort is expended over and over again to re-use just those components in building new applications. To address this problem, we have developed a high level software framework for building multi-media applications, which makes it easy to build, maintain, and extend a variety of multi-media and emerging collaboration applications. One reason for the ease-of-use is that the framework is at such a level that the intricacies and details of multi-media streaming and processing need not be explicitly known to the integrator, who does not have to worry about how to connect the components, control the timing and threading, and such. Examples of possible applications that can be built using this new framework include a player, a Video-on-Demand server, a video conferencing client, a multi-media presentation recorder, a trans-coder, a protocol translator, etc. For maximum applicability the software is platform independent, has pluggable components such as encoders and decoders, and most modules adhere to multi-media standards from the IETF and MPEG. We will show the ease of integration and maintenance and give demonstrations of some of the projects and products in our company that use this framework, such as collaboration recording, audio/visual help desk support, one-to-many presentations of audio/video with synchronized slides, peer-to-peer video conferencing and collaboration, and speech-to-text as a remote real-time service.","PeriodicalId":427398,"journal":{"name":"The 19th Annual Wireless and Optical Communications Conference (WOCC 2010)","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-05-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130836778","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Some tests and documents verify that power-line channel takes on many adverse characteristics that are not conducive to high frequency signal transmission, and noise characteristics are important parameters to describe the nature of power-line communication channel interference. The paper studied noise classification of the power-line communication channel, and specially analyzed the colored background noise characteristic and its mathematical model. Based on artificial neural network, optimization model is studied for the colored background noise of power-line communication channel. The paper educed the neural network algorithm used for modeling colored background noise. Through simulation, amplitude-frequency response curve is derived for neural network filter. And also time domain waveform and power spectrum density of colored noise are achieved from the neural model. The results indicate that artificial neural network modeling method is effective for modeling the colored background noise of power-line communication channel.
