Since 2011 it has been amended six times, which has made it more difficult for social care centres to ensure compliance. Some of these changes have imposed additional workload on social workers, which is why regular every-day work with clients might be suffering. In this paper special attention is dedicated to those amendments of the Social Care Act that impose special burdens on social care centres. Further, the paper deals with the introduction in 2011 of the new work organisation in social care centres known as“one-stop office”, which, according to information from the field, is not equally applied in all social care centres. Due to frequent and hasty legislative amendments, as well as the changes and lack of uniformity in the organisation of social care centres in Croatia, the social care system is unstable both for beneficiaries and for social workers. The results of various studies (Kovačić, 2003; Friščić, 2006; Moštak Skupnjak, 2012; Družić Ljubotina and Frišić, 2014 etc.) show that social workers working in such a system are exposed to professional stress, which can lead to negative outcomes both at personal and professional levels. Health problems are becoming more common, which represents a special concern for the professional community. The final section of the paper is dedicated to challenges and possibilities of work improvement in social care centres, with special accent put on the need for prompt and better quality support provided to social care centres by the Ministry, on the participation of social work practitioners in working groups that draft new laws in the area of social care or amend existing ones, and on the necessity of homogenisation of the social work","PeriodicalId":42686,"journal":{"name":"Ljetopis Socijalnog Rada","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2019-04-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.3935/LJSR.V25I3.242","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46386350","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"社会学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

From early on play has an important role in a child’s physical development. Starting with the first ball games, engaging in amateur sports or attending daily trainings in individual or team sports, young people have a chance to develop many physical and social skills. In terms of a child’s physical development, sport particularly affects the development of skilfulness, agility, speed, strength and endurance. Children who are part of a sports team have the opportunity to build the necessary social skills, interpersonal relationships, confidence and tolerance. They learn how to overcome performance anxiety and fear. Today, with ICT technology being widely available and accessible, we are facing the negative consequences of its use. Obesity, inactivity, hyperactivity and attention deficit are some of the disorders or even diseases affecting the most vulnerable population – children and adolescents. Having been applied for a long time in social sciences and considering the considerable number of scientific papers dealing with their epistemology, case studies are often discussed in terms of their status, (un)clear definition and application in the context of methods of social science research. The aim of this paper is to contribute to an understanding of this research strategy and to offer \u0000to the reader, the future researcher who wishes to conduct a case study, an overview of relevant authors and their views of processes typical for this strategy, which differs from other strategies mostly by the flexibility of its design. In addition to discussing challenges related to the definition for case study, the paper also deals with various principles for selecting cases, methods for collecting data about the case and determining case limits. The paper lists potential methods for ensuring the validity and reliability of case studies and offers advice on reporting about a conducted case study. Finally, the characteristics of case studies are described considering the criterion of flexibility while emphasising the role of the researcher conducting the study.","PeriodicalId":42686,"journal":{"name":"Ljetopis Socijalnog Rada","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2018-11-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.3935/LJSR.V25I2.209","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42083657","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"社会学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Regarding various unwanted behavioral and emotional outcomes, the protective role of parental monitoring has been empirically corroborated, but little is known about the association between the dynamics of parental monitoring and SEM use during adolescence. The aim of this longitudinal study was to assess this association in two independent samples of high-school students. From 2015 till 2018, the data were collected in Rijeka (classroom-based in 14 high-schools) and Zagreb (online survey in 59 high-schools). Using three observation points in Rijeka sample (n = 1 190) and Zagreb sample (n = 874 – for robustness check), latent growth curve modeling revealed a negative association between male and female adolescents’ initial levels of SEM use and parental monitoring in both panel samples. During 20 months’ time, the dynamics of the two constructs were negatively related only among female adolescents in Rijeka. Practical and empirical implications, together with recommendations for future research are discussed.","PeriodicalId":42686,"journal":{"name":"Ljetopis Socijalnog Rada","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2018-11-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.3935/LJSR.V25I2.255","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45750865","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"社会学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The meta-analysis was conducted on a sample of 14 individual studies and covered 2088 parents of children with developmental disabilities and 783 parents of children without disabilities across seven studies, while the remaining seven studies were compared against standards based on results for the population without disabilities for a given geographical area. The standardized difference score between arithmetic means is d=0.24 and points to a statistically significant difference of low intensity between parents of children with developmental disabilities and parents of children without developmental disabilities or population without disabilities in terms of the subjective quality of life assessment (z= -2.06, p= 0.039) with the quality of life rated lower by parents of children with developmental disabilities. Within the group of parents of children with developmental disabilities no difference in the quality of life assessment was established between mothers and fathers. The results of the study indicate the need for developing better and more focused interventions aimed at providing support and assistance to this group. However, it should be kept in mind that this study has methodology-related limitations and future researchers are therefore advised to address the shortcomings of this study in order to improve the quality and validity of results.","PeriodicalId":42686,"journal":{"name":"Ljetopis Socijalnog Rada","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2018-11-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.3935/LJSR.V25I2.153","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45679299","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"社会学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
