Bioimpedance is a promising alternative sensing modality for vital signs monitoring in wearable devices but requires close proximity to the subject's skin. The current study evaluates the suitability of different types of electrodes for on-wrist heartrate measurements via bioimpedance. We compare copper, gold, and stainless steel electrodes with smooth and bumpy surfaces. To this end, we develop a signal-to-heart-rate data processing pipeline and a SNR-based metric that algorithmically evaluates the signal's quality. The results show that while there is a clear trend in the data that supports the selection of stainless steel over other metals and bumpy over smooth electrode surfaces, most of the variance in the signal quality comes from factors other than the electrode type.","PeriodicalId":426797,"journal":{"name":"2022 Workshop on Microwave Theory and Techniques in Wireless Communications (MTTW)","volume":"153 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115170783","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In a similar manner, diseases related to the faulty activities of numerous key organs of the human body became a common scenario during recent times. Here, a brief investigation regarding the human kidney consisting of stones that arise due to the inability to filter the wastage from the blood of the body has been done. Considering this issue, a Cylindrical Dielectric Resonator Antenna (CDRA) has been designed for the detection of these kinds of stones of the human kidney phantom, implemented in the CST Studio Suite Software at an operating frequency of 3.77 GHz using S-Band. For the precise simulation process, the human kidney phantom has been designed using the following segments on it, including the Adrenal gland, Cortex, Medulla, and Ureter. After that, stones were also created by using all the necessary properties. Later, the simulated antenna's performance was deduced in free space, then after applying it on the stone-free and the stone-affected kidney phantom. For the stone-affected position, a Return Loss magnitude of -24.90 dB, Voltage Standing Wave Ratio of 1.12, and Specific Absorption Rate of 0.0090 W/kg were obtained. In addition, other output parameters, including the Gain, Directivity, Polar Radiation, etc., have been successfully determined, which validates the goal of the research to a great extent.","PeriodicalId":426797,"journal":{"name":"2022 Workshop on Microwave Theory and Techniques in Wireless Communications (MTTW)","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117153046","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is designed on a polyimide substrate with dielectric constant of 3.5, tangent loss of 0.006, and thickness of 10 μm. It consists of two rectangular patches fed through the Coplanar Waveguide (CPW) feeding technique. It also combines transverse and longitudinal slots on the rectangular patches to create circular polarization and improve the open stop-band issue of the LWAs. In addition, a matching element is utilized at each feeding, and then the feed line is cut by H-slots to improve the mutual coupling of the antenna. The proposed antenna offers a wide Bandwidth (BW) of 110- 135 GHz with small dimensions of 6 × 7 mm2. The main beam scans from −87° at 110 GHz to 0° at 130 GHz. The simulated peak gain of 14.8 dBic is obtained in an almost broadside direction at 115 GHz.","PeriodicalId":426797,"journal":{"name":"2022 Workshop on Microwave Theory and Techniques in Wireless Communications (MTTW)","volume":"190 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117346025","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Chaotic spreading is one of the still insufficiently explored areas which can lead to higher security and lower multiple access interference (MAI). This research is intended to bring new information about the performance of binary direct sequence spread spectrum (DSSS) and frequency hopping spread spectrum (FHSS) communication systems which employ chaos-based spreading codes and compare them against classical systems employing m-sequences. Unlike existing research, this investigation is based on the simulation of passband communication systems with up/down-conversion and respective filtering. Performance comparison in terms of bit error ratio (BER) versus signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) at the different number of users and MAI dependence on carrier frequency offset among users in case of additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channel are presented. Obtained results highlight several scenarios where chaotic-sequences-based binary DSSS and FHSS systems have advantages over classical solutions.","PeriodicalId":426797,"journal":{"name":"2022 Workshop on Microwave Theory and Techniques in Wireless Communications (MTTW)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130147313","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, we propose a hybrid method for the encryption of images. This kind of hybrid strategy calls for the application of two (varying in nature) components, arithmetic (in the form of a dot product operation applied on the decimal level) and bit-level operations (in the form of an application of a PRNG key data change), alongside an S-Box (as a confusion application element). The incorporation of an arithmetic component leads to the development of an encryption scheme that is fundamentally distinct from the majority of algorithms in the state-of-the-art. The proposed scheme demonstrates strong encryption performance, as can be seen from the results of the conducted tests.","PeriodicalId":426797,"journal":{"name":"2022 Workshop on Microwave Theory and Techniques in Wireless Communications (MTTW)","volume":"140 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123324931","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, there are significant variabilities between these two different cell types in terms of the transmission power levels, system capacity, coverage areas and deployment densities. Also, the random distribution of users in different directions of movement causes an uneven distribution of traffic load between cells. In this study, we suggest a fuzzy logic-based algorithm for adjusting the handover (HO) margin (HOM) in HetNets by leveraging cell load and radio channel quality. In addition, a two-step model of target cell determination is presented that takes into account the load level of the cells and the reference signal received power (RSRP). The performance of the suggested algorithm is compared with selected existing load balancing algorithms. The simulation findings depict that the suggested algorithm improves load balancing, increases throughput and reduces call dropping ratio (CDR).","PeriodicalId":426797,"journal":{"name":"2022 Workshop on Microwave Theory and Techniques in Wireless Communications (MTTW)","volume":"150 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122539610","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The main objective of the current work is to investigate the possibility of increasing the efficiency of WPT using a multi-hop transmission approach. The study describes the main limitations of the multi-hop RF energy transmission, analyses the possible technical solution of a multi-hop sensor node, and evaluates the performance of multi-hop WPT compared to the classical technique. The research combines RF signal transmission simulations and experimental studies. Multi-hop WPT analysis is made for the sub-GHz frequency band and two wireless nodes. Friis approximation of point-to-point signal propagation is used for simulating the multi-hop energy transmission in free space, while the method of Shooting and Bouncing Ray is used for multichannel propagation simulation. Current work expands the WPT applications by providing an approach to increase the distance of RF energy transmission for the wireless sensor nodes in the areas with lower coverage.","PeriodicalId":426797,"journal":{"name":"2022 Workshop on Microwave Theory and Techniques in Wireless Communications (MTTW)","volume":"91 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125174496","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
