The questions asked in the present report are the following: do these figures signal a failure of policies? What are actually the aims of policies directed at illegal migrants in Jordan? And, ultimately, are unauthorized migrants really unwanted, and why? The report proceeds to review and analyse policies announced, as well as their implementation patterns. The conclusion reached is that migrants, workers or refugees, seem to be wanted or, at least, tolerated, but mostly as illegal, rights-less sojourners. Segregation towards Arab and Asian migrants gives them a structural role in the definition of a national citizenship based on granting of rights, in the negotiation of a 'post-rentier\" social contract as well as in the promotion of a Jordan inserted in the capital circulation' networks on the international level. Efficiency of control and law enforcement tools is thus not the issue, as illegal migration is itself a political strategy responding to security agendas. However, a very recent trend towards organising campaigns of migrants' regularisation can be spotted, as part of closer monitoring of labour market' rationalisation measures and heavy involvement from international agencies in the field of migration issues. Drawing on these recent changes, the report suggests a broader initiative extended to other Middle Eastern migrant-receiving countries like Jordan, in order to speed up implementation of migrants' protection measures and help justifying it in front of populations and investors.","PeriodicalId":426647,"journal":{"name":"World Population Policies 2019","volume":"398 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-03-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122783197","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This will have an enormous economic, social and cultural impact on both their countries of origin and destination. India is the second largest country in the world in sending emigrants and the first in terms of their remittances. Remittance inflows to India from overseas Indians reached US $ 55.0 billion in 2010.With this due importance and contribution to the Indian economy and society, this book focuses on three important aspects of international migration from India.First,it examines the recent trends and patterns of international migration. Second, it highlights the importance and impact of remittances on Indian economy and society. Finally, it critically analyses the policy regime governing international labour migration from India and the problems encountered by migrants.","PeriodicalId":426647,"journal":{"name":"World Population Policies 2019","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-08-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132326365","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Hinduism is the major religion. Buddhism and animism also have a strong presence. Islam and Christianity are minority faiths, the latter of which is a growing religion but it is still not fully recognised by the government and suffers persecution. Christianity arrived in Nepal in 1662, when Italian Capuchin priests passed through Nepal en route to Tibet. During the 1970s churches started to grow in various parts of the country, though Christians were not allowed to preach and conversion to Christianity was prohibited. Today, there is estimated to be about 6,000 congregations, with the number rapidly increasing. Evangelism and church planting have been the heart of Nepalese Christianity, as pioneers of evangelistic and church-planting activities have made a great contribution to the growth of the church in Nepal from the 1950s. Community churches, where people gather for worship within their own local areas, are becoming more popular than denominational churches. The churches, both through their own programmes and in cooperation with other theological institutions, have developed formal theological education to equip their leaders and members.","PeriodicalId":426647,"journal":{"name":"World Population Policies 2019","volume":"41 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-05-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127714627","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
