The vest measures muscle activity in order to derive the psychological stress level of a person. The ConText project proposes to develop a sensor technology, which requires no direct contact with the body, and to achieve a high level of integration of the sensors and electronics into textile. The realisation of contactless EMG sensors, textile integration of the sensors and the creation of a textile substrate with conductive wiring for data transmission and power supply will be the important parts of the project. The prototype will be used for dissemination and application development.","PeriodicalId":426585,"journal":{"name":"2007 IEEE International Conference on Portable Information Devices","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-05-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122185172","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These devices include smartphones, personal digital assistants (PDAs), smart cards, radio frequency ID (RFID) tags, and a myriad of other devices used in non-traditional computing environments. Wireless communications are important to allowing these devices to network with peers and larger systems. The software part of pervasive computing has, until now, featured a variety of incompatible standards, each tailored for a specific niche. Middleware is the software that links different application components and is used in pervasive computing to link client applications with host systems. By providing extensions to middleware for pervasive computing such as Web services, context-sensitive applications, and message queues, development complexity can be reduced and interoperability can be improved.","PeriodicalId":426585,"journal":{"name":"2007 IEEE International Conference on Portable Information Devices","volume":"113 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-05-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124170801","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This impacts negatively the product development cycle (PDC). The increasing software and hardware concurrency, and need for architectural optimization, will also complicate PDC. Innovations in PDC are needed to reduce product cost and time-to-market. Modeling a system can help in addressing architect's design concerns. To be effective in reducing PDC, a system model must incorporate performance parameters and quality of service (QoS) metrics of the modeled components. We discuss three different annotation methods for obtaining such metrics.","PeriodicalId":426585,"journal":{"name":"2007 IEEE International Conference on Portable Information Devices","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-05-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131908675","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It presents results from a survey conducted among potential mobile peer-to-peer (P2P) content sharing services users in Finland. The paper does not try to assess technical feasibility of deployment of P2P services in mobile networks. It answers elementary questions about the willingness of mobile phone users to share content stored in their mobile phones as well as their interest in downloading content created by the content industry and other mobile phone users. Thus, it examines feasibility of providing such services. The paper also presents respondents' opinions concerning mobile P2P content sharing services. It also elaborates on example mobile content services that have chances to achieve end-user acceptance.","PeriodicalId":426585,"journal":{"name":"2007 IEEE International Conference on Portable Information Devices","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-05-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133643679","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the technology is yet to enter the marketplace and realize its original goal of enhancing the quality of life for individuals through enhanced real-time biomedical monitoring. In this paper, we propose a framework for analyzing the transition of WBS from research to reality. We begin with a look at the evolution of the field and describe the key components of a WBS. We then analyze the key issues encompassing the technical, medical, economic, public policy and business facets from the viewpoints of various stakeholders in the continuum. We conclude with a plan of action for transitioning WBS from \"research to reality.\"","PeriodicalId":426585,"journal":{"name":"2007 IEEE International Conference on Portable Information Devices","volume":"96 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-05-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121448934","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The power amplifier exhibits 26.4 dB of gain, 26 dBm of output PldB, and output IP3 of 37.2 dBm. Six layer stacks and three kinds of materials, such as Hi-DK material, low-loss material and commercial organic material were applied in this design. In this substrate, we use special high dielectric constant (DK>60 @ 1MHz) material to design embedded capacitors and use the new embedded resistors (Ik ohm/per square) for whole SiP module. The OFDM system arises from UWB-OFDM WPAN studies carried out within the phase 1 of the IST-FP6 MAGNET project. The algorithm utilizes modulo operations and a turbo-based structure to optimize the frequency interleaving spreading over multipath channels. The algorithm undertakes a dynamic set-up to Actively introduce a time-frequency diversity of the channel on the system. The dynamic implementation uses the turbo structure of the algorithm to generate N different permutation rules successively applied to N OFDM symbols. The algorithm is tested and compared to Relative Prime and random interleavers upon 16-QAM and QPSK modulated sub-carriers. In a static configuration where a single permutation rule is considered, the algorithm reveals gains near 1 dB facing to a RP interleaver. The dynamic set-up strengthens gains to 2-4 dB. This work highlights benefits of a dynamic and scalable interleaving processing to enhance short distance WPAN link level performance under a low cost implementation.","PeriodicalId":426585,"journal":{"name":"2007 IEEE International Conference on Portable Information Devices","volume":"20 22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-05-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130502610","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
