In this paper, a new curb detection method is proposed using a 2D laser range finder in a campus environment. Firstly, a local Digital Elevation Map (DEM) is built with 2D sequential laser range finder data and vehicle state information. Then, the curb candidate points are extracted considering the moving direction of the vehicle in the local DEM. Finally, the 1D Gaussian process regression is firstly used for curb detection, and the initial training curb data are obtained online by the extracted straight curbs. The proposed method has been verified in different scenes with the real vehicle platform, and it can detect the straight and curved curbs robustly in a campus environment.","PeriodicalId":425822,"journal":{"name":"2013 Seventh International Conference on Image and Graphics","volume":"54 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-07-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115930069","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, a new automatic algorithm for lesion segmentation based on the multi-channel MR images (T1w, T2w and FLAIR image) is proposed, which utilizes the unique and complementary intensity information of multi-channel MR images. In this method, the observed multi-channel MR images are modeled as a vector valued image. The image in each channel consists of two multiplicative components: a smooth varying bias filed vector and a piecewise approximately constant true image vector. An energy function of this vector valued image is defined in term of the property of true image and bias field. The energy minimization is proposed for seeking the optimal segmentation result of lesions. Our method is applied to the real multi-channel MR images and compared with two sets of manual segmentation followed by the quantitative evaluation. The experimental results show that our approach is effective and robust for the lesion segmentation.","PeriodicalId":425822,"journal":{"name":"2013 Seventh International Conference on Image and Graphics","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-07-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121512543","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To this end, this paper introduces a cartoon rendering illumination model improved from Phong illumination model, and realizes it with 3ds Max SDK in the form of plug-ins. By discretizing diffuse reflection part and specular reflection part in the Phong illumination model, surfaces of models show different blocks of color, among which there are clear boundaries. In addition, by using linear interpolation between different color blocks, boundaries can be soften. The experimental results show that this cartoon rendering illumination model can not only make a cartoon appearance, but also mix with Phong illumination model, and achieve a unique effect.","PeriodicalId":425822,"journal":{"name":"2013 Seventh International Conference on Image and Graphics","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-07-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114691391","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Especially, local descriptors of dense spatial sampling were demonstrated to be able to further improve performances of image classification. However, denser spatial sampling is impractical due to huge computation cost. To handle this issue, we propose a new region-based sampling strategy in this paper. We first perform an over-segmentation to get image regions, and then we extract local descriptors around the region boundaries and inside the regions respectively with a popular sampling strategy. Thus, almost at the same computation cost, the proposed method can capture more salient points and obtain much better classification performance. Extensive experiments are conducted on two widely-used datasets (UIUC Sports and Caltech-101). The experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method. Specifically, the proposed method updates the state-of-the-art on UIUC Sports dataset with a classification accuracy of 89.38%.","PeriodicalId":425822,"journal":{"name":"2013 Seventh International Conference on Image and Graphics","volume":"58 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-07-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124731024","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The audio and visual channels provide complementary information, so we utilize features from three behavioral cues: frontal-view facial expression, profile-view facial expression and vocalization (audio). The problem of interest is to recognize basic emotions, and we use dimensional representation of emotion as the heuristic information (hints) when training NNs used for both single cue processing and multimodal fusion. With the aid of hints, the weights of NNs could learn optimized feature groupings and recognition accuracy of our classifier would be notably improved even when training data is insufficient. Experimental results on audio-visual emotion data recorded by ourselves in Wizard of Oz scenarios and emotion data from the Semaine naturalistic database both demonstrate that our approach is effective and promising.","PeriodicalId":425822,"journal":{"name":"2013 Seventh International Conference on Image and Graphics","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-07-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115048570","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Manual estimation of liver volumes require manual tracing of liver borders and hence is a very time-consuming and tedious task. Accordingly, our objective is to develop an automatic, computer-aided system to correctly define the boundaries of livers of interest. In this study, a computer program is developed based on Mat lab for the management of CT liver scans. We use the region growing algorithm to demarcate the liver in CT images to obtain the volumetric measurements. In practice, the program carries out a high-performance 2D parallel pixel-growing algorithm to delineate the liver border from neighboring organs. The area measurements in all image slices depicting the liver of interest are summated as the final volumetric measurement. The estimated of liver volumes by our method are compared to manual measurements which were done by a radiologist. The experimental results suggest that the proposed computer-aided system is reliable and can finish the computation in satisfactory speed.","PeriodicalId":425822,"journal":{"name":"2013 Seventh International Conference on Image and Graphics","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-07-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116148156","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As for the mostly used CFAR algorithm for GTD, the statistical analysis of SAR image is an essential step in threshold calculation. However, it has been proved that the traditionally used Rayleigh distribution is no longer suitable to modelling the statistical characteristics of 1 m resolution TerraSAR-X image with ground targets. To model these heavy-tailed distributions, some other distributions, including Gamma, Weibull, lognormal and K distribution models have been applied. According to the analysis of large numbers of experiment results, lognormal distribution model is selected to describe the statistical characteristics of the high resolution SAR images with ground targets. Then genetic algorithm (GA) is adopted to efficiently estimate the model parameters as accurately as possible, which are subsequently used to calculate the global CFAR detection threshold. The experiments indicate that, lognormal distribution model with GA based parameters computation are more suitable than Gamma, Weibull and K distribution models to describe the statistical characteristics of the high resolution SAR images, which is propitious to performance improvement of the global CFAR algorithm.","PeriodicalId":425822,"journal":{"name":"2013 Seventh International Conference on Image and Graphics","volume":"157 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-07-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114658654","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
