Here we demonstrate the condition required to have air cavities within a uniaxial metamaterial clad waveguide. A model of coupling region of SPPCF coupler was established. The optical propagation characteristics of SPPCF coupler was calculated with different angles by using the software Rsoft. The simulation shows that light field appeared alternately between two optical fibers of coupler and there was coupling effect. When the angle was 0°, it could provide the best design for the objective coupling ratio of 50%, because the relatively longer coupling period gives more convenience to fabricate a PCF based fiber coupler.","PeriodicalId":425705,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Conference on Numerical Simulation of Optoelectronic Devices (NUSOD)","volume":"53 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-07-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122549497","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The numerical simulation is based on side polished multi mode fiber SPR sensor with the 75 μm residual fiber thickness and 20nm silver film thickness. Meanwhile, the comparisons for traditional SPR sensor and SPR sensor with only one anti-oxidizing layer have also been studied. The studies show that the SPR sensor with PC structure and graphene layer has higher FOM than other SPR sensors mentioned. This design is expected to be a better choice on chemical and biological sensing.","PeriodicalId":425705,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Conference on Numerical Simulation of Optoelectronic Devices (NUSOD)","volume":"280 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-07-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123978330","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Yet one of the surprises of nonlinear optics - the field of optics with high intensity lasers - is that light may interact strongly with sound, the most mundane of mechanical vibrations. Intense laser light literally “shakes” the glass in optical fibres, exciting acoustic waves (sound) in the fibre. Under the right conditions, it leads to a positive feedback loop between light and sound termed “Stimulated Brillouin Scattering,” or simply SBS. This nonlinear interaction can amplify or filter light waves with extreme precision in frequency (colour) which makes it uniquely suited to solve key problems in the fields of defence, biomedicine and wireless communications amongst others. SBS has been studied in optical fibres for decades; it is usually regarded as a nuisance for telecommunication and laser applications but it can also be harnessed for important applications. We achieved the first demonstration of SBS in compact chip-scale structures, carefully designed so that the optical fields and the acoustic fields are simultaneously confined and guided. This new platform has opened a range of new functionalities that are being applied in communications and defence with superior performance and compactness. This new optical-phononic chip reveals new regimes of light sound interactions at the nanoscale, which has required new theoretical developments. My talk will introduce this new field, review our progress and achievements and some of our recent highlights that point towards a new class of entirely silicon based optical phononic processor that can be manufactured in semiconductor CMOS foundries.","PeriodicalId":425705,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Conference on Numerical Simulation of Optoelectronic Devices (NUSOD)","volume":"1737 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-07-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129458074","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We present a theoretical study of GaAs-based 1.3 and 1.55 μm (Al)InGaAs quantum well (QW) lasers grown on InGaAs MBLs. We demonstrate that optimised 1.3 μm metamorphic devices offer low threshold current densities and high differential gain, which compare favourably with InP-based devices. The RO frequency is highly sensitive to the external cavity condition. This work is to study the relationship between the RO frequency of an LD with optical feedback and its external cavity length. We firstly numerically solve the Lang-Kobayashi (L-K) equations to theoretically determine the relationship, then, experimentally verify the theoretical results. Both the simulation and experiment show that the RO frequency is quasiperiodic function of the external cavity length with the period of half laser wavelength when the cavity length is varied in micro scale. The results obtained at this work is useful for sensing and measurement using a laser feedback interferometry at relaxation oscillation.","PeriodicalId":425705,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Conference on Numerical Simulation of Optoelectronic Devices (NUSOD)","volume":"466 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-07-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127543139","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
