Therefore, in this paper, the effect of fading correlation on symbol error rate (SER) performance of MPSK with maximal ratio combining (MRC) is investigated for uniform circular antenna array (UCA). The performance evaluation uses the known expression for the SER of M-ary PSK in additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) as the conditional probability, then averages it over the density function for the combined symbol signal to noise ratio (SNR). Results show that, for circular array, decrease in the radius is equivalent to decrease in SNR and increase in SER","PeriodicalId":425107,"journal":{"name":"4th Annual Communication Networks and Services Research Conference (CNSR'06)","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-05-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116179856","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

{"title":"Trusted computing for protecting ad-hoc routing","authors":"Michael Jarrett, Paul A. S. Ward","doi":"10.1109/cnsr.2006.56","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/cnsr.2006.56","url":null,"abstract":"Ad-hoc networks rely on participation and cooperation of nodes within the network to transmit data to destinations. However, in networks where participating nodes are controlled by different owners, nodes may choose to act in their own interest to the detriment of the network. Current solutions either exact high overheads on the network and nodes, or only operate in specialized scenarios and prevent a small selection of attacks. Trusted computing provides additional security in open computing environments by allowing software to prove its identity and integrity to remote entities. We propose using trusted computing to prevent misconfigured or malicious nodes from participating in the network. We extend AODV to ensure that only trustworthy nodes participate in the network. The protocol exacts less overhead on the network than many other approaches and can be applied in a wide variety of scenarios","PeriodicalId":425107,"journal":{"name":"4th Annual Communication Networks and Services Research Conference (CNSR'06)","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-05-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133772750","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To meet this demand, the signaling protocol of mobility management must be designed for supporting location registration and call delivery for roaming users who move beyond their home network. The objective of this paper is to provide a modified boundary location register (MBLR) signaling protocol for inter-system roaming. The location registration and call delivery process of the new protocol are proposed which tries to reduce the signaling cost and latency. An analytical model is developed for comparative performance analysis of the BLR and MBLR protocol. However, it is realize that this will result in increased processing requirements at the database server. Thus, tradeoff between signaling, database access costs & processing overheads must be recognized","PeriodicalId":425107,"journal":{"name":"4th Annual Communication Networks and Services Research Conference (CNSR'06)","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-05-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130397336","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

QoS is closely related to the available bandwidth which itself is subject to financial constraints. Unfortunately, up to now there have been no adequate tools available in the market so that ISPs can do accurate bandwidth provisioning. In this paper, we describe the software tools developed by GRETI for that purpose. These tools provide several calculators for voice over IP and data traffic","PeriodicalId":425107,"journal":{"name":"4th Annual Communication Networks and Services Research Conference (CNSR'06)","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-05-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132753503","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

{"title":"Design of a hybrid multi-slot optical code division/wavelength division multiple access system","authors":"Po-Hao Chang, Hung-Shiang Chen, Jun-Ren Chen","doi":"10.1109/CNSR.2006.25","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/CNSR.2006.25","url":null,"abstract":"For optical communication networks, the wavelength division multiple access (WDMA) system has been developed at first and maturely commercialized. Although WDMA can be used to satisfy the requirement mentioned above, it has the disadvantage of low efficiency in utilizing bandwidth (for the high bandwidth optical communication system). Thus, the optical code division multiple access (OCDMA) is developed in order to alleviate the problem, but its data rate is limited by the low repetition rate of the ultrashort pulse laser source. Hence, in this paper, we propose a Multi-slot OCDMA system to resolve the issue of low data rate. Data rate and total throughput can really be increased with the increased number of slots with the proposed system. For example, if 512 chips are used for OCDMA system, the system can simultaneously accommodate more than 10 6-slot OCDMA and 30 WDMA users, achieving a total throughput of around 660 Gbps at a BER of 10-9","PeriodicalId":425107,"journal":{"name":"4th Annual Communication Networks and Services Research Conference (CNSR'06)","volume":"105 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-05-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133800490","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Traffic from all streams in all classes is carried in a logical frame. Each frame includes smaller rounds for each class, and only one packet can be transmitted from each stream inside a class in each round. A stream can transmit traffic in the frame when it has enough grants. Each stream inside a class first obtains some quantum from the scheduler according to its average arrival rate, bandwidth usage, and traffic status. Bursty streams can be processed quickly by requesting bandwidth loan from the scheduler. To control the amount of transmitted bits from each stream, the loan is paid back from the future acquired quantum. Our evaluation and comparison shows that our algorithm performs better than DRR in handling traffic under both normal and bursty traffic","PeriodicalId":425107,"journal":{"name":"4th Annual Communication Networks and Services Research Conference (CNSR'06)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-05-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131975060","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Achieving continuous network access is made possible by exploiting multihoming in mobile nodes and providing support for several heterogeneous network interfaces. Efficient mechanisms are required to enable mobile nodes to connect to various available networks to improve connectivity and provide network resilience. Stream control transmission protocol (SCTP) has been proposed as a potential candidate for facilitating multiple network support to achieve smooth session continuity while moving across different types of networks. This paper analyses the design and performance of proposed SCTP implementations for multihoming purposes. We present an empirical evaluation of SCTP while performing handoffs by conducting experiments in a real multi-network environment. Most existing approaches toward this problem require sensor's location information, which may be impractical considering costly locating overheads. This paper proposes a new density control protocol that needs sensor-to-sensor distance but no location information. It attempts to approach an optimal sensor selection pattern that demands the least number of working (awake) sensors. Simulation results indicate that the proposed protocol is comparable to its location-based counterpart in terms of coverage quality and the reduction of working sensors","PeriodicalId":425107,"journal":{"name":"4th Annual Communication Networks and Services Research Conference (CNSR'06)","volume":"76 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-05-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127880777","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

{"title":"Combining Petri nets and ns-2: a hybrid method for analysis and simulation","authors":"Qiang Ye, M. MacGregor","doi":"10.1109/CNSR.2006.24","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/CNSR.2006.24","url":null,"abstract":"Network protocol performance and evaluation study is often carried out using a couple of widely used simulation toolkits, such as ns-2 and OPNET. These toolkits usually contain many built-in protocol models. Using these toolkits is very efficient due to the abundant models. However, the correctness of a protocol that interests us can never be proved by simulation itself. Petri net modeling enables us to verify the protocol of interest formally. But because of the generality of Petri nets, not many network protocol models are bundled with Petri net modeling tools. In this paper we present an innovative network simulation methodology that benefits from the interaction between ns-2 and Petri nets. A communication mechanism based on Socket Programming and a synchronization mechanism used to coordinate ns-2 and Petri nets were designed to make possible the interaction. In this paper, a new version of SACK TCP, alpha-min Paced SACK TCP, is used to illustrate the power of the proposed methodology","PeriodicalId":425107,"journal":{"name":"4th Annual Communication Networks and Services Research Conference (CNSR'06)","volume":"122 3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-05-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131289192","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
