People with MDD suffer from loss of interest and pleasure in activities that they would usually enjoy. In addition, they report anxiety, complex somatic pain syndromes, cognitive restrictions, loss of sexual interest, impaired sleep and social withdrawal. Psychiatric patients are at higher chance to be physically inactive which contributes to increased morbidity and mortality. Regular PA has shown to improve mental wellbeing in the general population and reduces the risk to develop several mental disorders. Assessing PA and motivation for change should be ­established as routine in psychiatric practice. The recommended dose of exercise for optimal health benefits should be achieved and recommendations on exercise-prescription as well as coaching-programs tailored for mentally ill patients should be developed. Structured exercise therapies should become part of standard psychiatric care. A network of “mental health friendly” sports-clubs could help to facilitate PA for psychiatric populations. Public awareness of mental health benefits of exercise specifically in the prevention of mental disorders is an important topic addressed by the Swiss Society of Sports-Psychiatry and -Psychotherapy. Furthermore, the competition schedule is often time constrained and athletes need to travel between games during recovery. Therefore, it seems very important to optimize nutritional strategies around training sessions as well as while traveling or competing. This review discusses a variety of different aspects, which are important in the development of a nutritional strategy in a club. It summarizes how the medical and performance staff of a team can provide the right nutritional strategies to optimize training adaptation and recovery. Furthermore, specific nutritional aspects for female, youth and traveling athletes as well as athletes recovering from injury are discussed. Besides nutritional strategies, teams should be cautious regarding the monitoring of body composition. Choosing the right time point in the season together with selecting a reliable and valid method and measuring under standardized circumstances is essential. Furthermore, athletes need to be educated on the risks and benefits of supplement use. Nous avons dû faire preuve de créativité pour prouver aux étudiant.e.s de médecine que malgré les difficultés, nous sommes toujours présents. La question que nous nous sommes posée: comment partager notre passion, la médecine du Sport et de l’Exercice, tout en respectant les restrictions sanitaires?\u0000Rapidement deux membres du comité, Chloé Joray et Hanna Grogg-Trachsel, se sont portées volontaires pour trouver une solution. L’idée? Si les étudiant.e.s ne peuvent se joindre physiquement à nous, pourquoi ne pas venir directement chez eux/elles. Et pourquoi ne pas aussi inclure les intéressé.e.s au niveau international tant que nous y sommes? The suicides of well-known athletes have repeatedly brought the subject of mental health problems of top athletes into the public discourse. However, there is still a lack in psychiatric and psychotherapeutic care in high-performance sports. Significant prevalence studies and guidelines to assess and counteract suicidal potential in this special population are missing.
