After the presentation of three such poets (Seamus Heaney, George Mackay Brown, and Nils-Aslak Valkeapää), the chapter suggests an educational programme for schoolchildren and pupils in developing poetry-based tourist guides, with a view to mobilizing environmental responsibility among both locals and visitors.","PeriodicalId":424935,"journal":{"name":"Literary tourism: theories, practice and case studies","volume":"53 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124976099","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As such, 20 travel books about Italy were analysed under an interpretive paradigm of phenomenology and hermeneutics. Applying latent content analysis ensured that the texts were interpreted cognizant of the context and symbolism with which they were written in order to allow the authors' original meanings to materialize. Through this analysis, three key themes emerged: transformation, home and belonging, and emotional geographies.","PeriodicalId":424935,"journal":{"name":"Literary tourism: theories, practice and case studies","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126346920","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The chapter examines the 'experience triggers' that are considered to be the most important acts for the emergence of the tourism of literary writing. Such triggers take place from five decisions that must be made: (i) the model for financing the trip; (ii) the decision about which cities to visit; (iii) the selection of the participating authors; (iv) time spent by the travellers in the inspiring destinations; and (v) the definition of the mission/compensation demanded from the authors-travellers. To exemplify these triggers, the multimedia project Amores Expressos is analysed. The type of touristic activity promoted by the organizers of this project served not only to allow Brazilian authors to 'mine experiences' for a future work they would write, but also enabled the construction of new lucrative products for the financing companies.","PeriodicalId":424935,"journal":{"name":"Literary tourism: theories, practice and case studies","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114083196","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Considering the complex relationships between literature and place in global contexts, the first question to ask is: How is the literary city configured and which elements are important in its recognition? To try to answer this question, the chapter first delves into the manifold relationships between literature and the city before addressing some main issues in literary tourism and city marketing. Afterwards, by analysing three cases of UNESCO's Cities of Literature (namely, Edinburgh, Barcelona and Óbidos), configuring elements of the literary city are identified.","PeriodicalId":424935,"journal":{"name":"Literary tourism: theories, practice and case studies","volume":"205 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114754529","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
