In this paper, lake morphometry, water level fluctuation and water balance of the Ganga Lake have been analyzed to reveal the coupling effects of climate change and human impacts. It’s water regime and morphometric changes serve as indicator of climate change in the steppe and Gobi region. The lake is very vulnerable for the climate warming and human impacts. In recent years, water level of the lake much dropped and continued its shrinkage of water surface area, especially dramatic lake depletion was observed in summer of 2016. The cause of such changes is mainly climate warming. Summer of 2016 was hottest summer since mid-1940th when started permanent and systematic observation for regional climate, around Ganga lake. Rainless days continued from end of July till early September, covering nearly whole August month of this year and at same time, during this period also observed longest consecutive extreme hot days which exceeds 30°C in the region. As consequences of such extreme weather condition, water surface area reduced till 0.29 km which several times smaller than normal lake condition. Water level of the Ganga lake has dropped by 1.5 m since late 1990th where the lake was full and in last 3-4 year lake water level dropped by 50-60 cm. Recent years, due to drying out of several open water sources, which serve for livestock watering, serious pasture degradation took place around lake area. For instance, additionally 16 herders family moved to Ganga lake site from surrounding area and in summer of 2016 about 31000 of livestock concentrated in the lake area. Such huge concentration of animals in the small lake water also seriously affected to lake water quality and lakebed sediment situation.","PeriodicalId":424774,"journal":{"name":"Modern Environmental Science and Engineering","volume":"48 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-07-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125790022","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An enrichment plan for Bottlenose Dolphins started in Mundomar in 2014, in a group of 4 males and 6 females, with ages varying between 1 and 36 years. The enrichment devices were developed, constructed and evaluated. A total of 42 devices were newly made, not bought, and made available to the animals during the year. The final objective was to create a catalogue with all the available devices once evaluated, classified by types of environmental enrichment. Evaluation of the set goals for each device was done through visual observations. Types of enrichment were differentiated using a color code, as well as the responses or attitudes obtained from the animals. The final evaluation produced a list of recommendations per individual or for the entire group, based on the success of each individual enrichment device. Enrichment is used currently as another reinforcement tool during animal training. An increase in the number of interactions with the enrichment items and in the expected responses of the animals has contributed to a better health status of the dolphins this past year.","PeriodicalId":424774,"journal":{"name":"Modern Environmental Science and Engineering","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-07-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128224192","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The topography (maximum altitude of 1731 m). The bathymetry(capacity of 18.89 Mm, an area of 4.1 Mm and a maximum depth of 7.86 m). The physicochemical and environmental parameters, show the generation of 107.01 kg of nitrogen per year (22.93% by point sources and 77.07% by diffuse sources). Tomatal river produces 18.7 t of sediment on the regions of average sloping, this equates to a lost of 7.45 t ha on average throughout the basin. The water quality is within the maximum permissible limits for the development of aquatic life. The lake is classified as warm water body, shallow and tropical, with a holomíctic blend, or a water body mesotrophic — eutrophic, through plankton community. The pollution and toxicity by Vibrio fischeri, Daphnia magna, Selenastrumcapricornutum and Microcistinawas not present in the lake. The presence of six types of phthalates, plus the incidence of herbicide atrazine in the lake, point out as source of pollution to the trash of the area and agricultural activity. There are contamination by the presence of fecal coliform and total suspended solids of human and natural origin in the watershed. Is proposed a strategic plan of recuperation: 1) a program of promotion and adoption of conservation practices for hillside land, 2) construction of little dams within channels for the control sediment and runoff infiltration to help the recharge the aquifer, 3) the river corridor recovery through of reforestation, 4) management of less polluting agrochemicals, 5) relocation of human settlements of the river corridor, 6) rechanneling of the river,7) control of invasive species management of the corridor and the lake, and 8) management of the water urban residuals through social participation.","PeriodicalId":424774,"journal":{"name":"Modern Environmental Science and Engineering","volume":"118 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-07-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123230953","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This technique has some goals, such as: the increase of bearing capacity, the general improvement of stability of structures related to soil-structure interaction, and the reduction and acceleration of the displacements coming from consolidation. Its application, when used simultaneously with shallow foundations, can increase the bearing capacity and reduce the primary settlement, if it is compared to the same situation and soil without the use of this technique. The proposed modified RAP piles constitutes a simplified construction of the RAP pile that has been altered to be constructed with smaller diameters, about 15 cm, using steel slag as a granular material, and is performed using the SPT hammer as a compaction element. Its main objective is the application in foundations of buildings of medium to small size. This report the feasibility of the Modified RAP piles, through the design of different models of foundations normally applied in Brazil in a hypothetical geotechnical situation. The modified RAP piles for small diameters obtained a low cost, and it showed up to be viable and advantageous application.","PeriodicalId":424774,"journal":{"name":"Modern Environmental Science and Engineering","volume":"s4-1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-07-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115507353","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A knowledge of T or another optical parameter, diffuse attenuation coefficient, Kd, steady connected with the T, allows many practical tasks to be solved regarding the ocean and atmospheric optics, such as water quality, primary production, and atmospheric correction. Therefore, knowledge of the reliable relationships between T (or Kd) and such parameters as incident illumination angle, cloud coverage, diffuseness of irradiance, and inherent optical properties (such as the scattering phase function, backscattering probability, scattering asymmetry parameter, and single-scattering albedo) is crucial. We have analyzed the impact of these parameters on the T and Kd. We computed T and Kd using a synthetic dataset covering any possible values of parameters by the numerical method (MDOM) and 21 analytical models and compared results with the MDOM solutions. An analysis of individual models has shown that the best of them yield average errors for T and Kd better than 10% for the majority of real optical conditions in the Earth’s atmosphere and natural waters.","PeriodicalId":424774,"journal":{"name":"Modern Environmental Science and Engineering","volume":"120 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-06-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123452659","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The classes are designed as (1) 45 min. for elementary students, (2) 90 min. (two consecutive 45 min. classes) for upper elementary and junior high school. Common learning goals are to acquire basic knowledge of radiation and its risk also to gain interest on the subject. Active learning is emphasized when designing the classes. World Café Miyuki version (Me-you Café: discussion method which based on chains of brainstorming that lead to discussion, recap and presentation) has been strongly recommended as one of the learning activities in the radiation classes and performed in over 90% of the classes delivered as the classes-on-demand. As change in the perceived reactions before and after the class, the participants learned basic knowledge of radiation and its risk as well as gained interest in learning more. Teaching radiation as class on demand, not only the targeted students learned about radiation, but observed teachers have acquired the knowledge of the subject. Also, it is suggested that Me-you Café has deepened and broadened children's idea of radiation.","PeriodicalId":424774,"journal":{"name":"Modern Environmental Science and Engineering","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-06-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130130842","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
