Chu","doi":"10.1109/ISAP.2011.6082210","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/ISAP.2011.6082210","url":null,"abstract":"Distribution system reconfiguration is one of the methods that is commonly used in order to improve the system reliability and reduce the system real power loss. The distribution system reconfiguration is normally done by altering the status of switches. When the status of switches on the distribution system is changed, the topology of the system is also changed. During the normal operations, load currents change at different time due to the power usages of different customers. The operation conditions of distribution systems change when the load currents vary. As a result, the topology of distribution system needs to be altered from time to time so the system real power loss can be reduced and the reliabilities can be improved. In this paper, integration of Evolutionary Programming (EP) and Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) is proposed. The objective is to minimize the system real power loss with minimum number of switch operations by considering the load currents variations. Each day is divided into 12 time slots. The peak load current is used for each time slot. By considering the number of switch operations and system real power loss simultaneously, the proposed approach is able to identify the proper switch operations so the system real time loss within a period of time can be minimized. Instead of using constant values as the desirability of state transition during the search process of ACO, application of the grey correlation grade is proposed. Verification is performed using the loading information and the topology information obtained from the Outage Management System (OMS) of Taiwan Power Company (TPC). The results show that by applying the integrated EP and ACO with proposed desirability calculation, the distribution system real power loss can be reduced with proper switch operations for variable load currents.","PeriodicalId":424662,"journal":{"name":"2011 16th International Conference on Intelligent System Applications to Power Systems","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-11-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117247724","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The method is based on wavelet analysis of power system frequency which is estimated by Prony method. The Prony method is utilized to estimate power system frequency with three consecutive samples rapidly. After that, Daubechies wavelet family uses the estimated frequency to investigate the unbalanced conditions in power system. Meanwhile, a new time based criterion is introduced to determine internal fault currents from inrush currents by using the changes of estimated power system frequency. Extended simulations for various faults and inrush conditions demonstrate precise operation of the proposed algorithm also in CT saturation.","PeriodicalId":424662,"journal":{"name":"2011 16th International Conference on Intelligent System Applications to Power Systems","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-11-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129284135","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

AC power flow is computationally slow even for a moderately sized system. Thus, fast and accurate outage models and approximated solutions have been developed. Unlike conventional power generation sources, wind power generators supply intermittent power because of resource uncertainties. This paper presents a new approach to solve the generation scheduling (GS) problem, considering reserve requirement, load-generation balance and wind power generation constraints. The modeling of constraints is an important issue in power system scheduling. This GS problem is solved using new particle swarm optimization (PSO). This problem is applied to a test system which has pumped storage power plants to modify the uncertainties of wind power output and other parameters in power system. Numerical testing results show that near optimal schedules are obtained, and the method can provide a good balance between increasing profit and satisfying constraints.","PeriodicalId":424662,"journal":{"name":"2011 16th International Conference on Intelligent System Applications to Power Systems","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-11-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131953237","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
