Additionally, a practical case of electrical network is analyzed (IEEE 14-Node Network) oriented to the estimation of fault sensors, describing aspects often studied separately in literature like sensor networks and electrical networks. In this sense, several scenarios have been considered including a simulated processing in order to reveal some of the potential advantages that can be found with the implementation of Semantic Services.","PeriodicalId":424662,"journal":{"name":"2011 16th International Conference on Intelligent System Applications to Power Systems","volume":"193 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-11-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122010534","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed method consists of several Substation Agents (SSAGs) and Line Agents (LineAGs). A SSAG corresponds to a substation, while a LineAG is developed as an object to control the multi-terminal transmission line. In order to demonstrate the capability of the performance of the proposed method, many simulations were carried out using a model system that consists of 11 substations and 6 transmission lines. The results show that the proposed multi-agent system is effective and promising.","PeriodicalId":424662,"journal":{"name":"2011 16th International Conference on Intelligent System Applications to Power Systems","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-11-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123095000","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A classification of these different ways for realizing a VPP based on the control structure, resource type, and the aggregation approach is discussed. This is followed by a description of the three VPP approaches, which are referred to as direct, hierarchical, and distributed control approaches. For each of the three approaches, the necessary operational steps are discussed and the differences are highlighted. Finally, a case study is presented to demonstrate EV integration through a VPP concept.","PeriodicalId":424662,"journal":{"name":"2011 16th International Conference on Intelligent System Applications to Power Systems","volume":"70 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-11-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129993612","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The frequency disturbance recorder (FDR) is actually a single-phase phasor measurement unit (PMU). It measures the voltage amplitude, angle and frequency from a single-phase 120-V wall outlet. Currently, the accuracy of synchrophasor measurements depends heavily on the precise time signal provided by global position system (GPS). This paper explores the impact of GPS signal loss on the measurement accuracy through a series of tests on FDR units including both regular and high sensitivity GPS receivers. It was shown the phase angle is more sensitive to GPS signal loss than frequency measurements.","PeriodicalId":424662,"journal":{"name":"2011 16th International Conference on Intelligent System Applications to Power Systems","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-11-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130938034","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A continuation power flow type algorithm is implemented using the MATLAB toolbox. This implementation generates the nose curves, used for voltage stability analysis for the IEEE 30 bus test system which, in turn, are used as target outputs for training the ANNs, by finding the distance to voltage collapse from the current system operating point. The trained ANN is supposed to provide, as output, the Voltage Collapse Proximity Indicators (VCPI) for all the vulnerable load buses of the system, which are a measure of the voltage stability margin for such buses.","PeriodicalId":424662,"journal":{"name":"2011 16th International Conference on Intelligent System Applications to Power Systems","volume":"46 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-11-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125128576","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The general approach is the construction of a model that predicts the behavior of the system in order to compare it with the observed behavior. Sometimes, additional models of the process are constructed in the presence of certain failures with the aim of identify these failures. This paper presents the utilization of a previous work developed for sensor validation, to diagnose a complete process and not only the sensors. The main advantage of this approach is the construction of a model when the process is working properly. Only one model is necessary. This is done using historical data and machine learning algorithms for Bayesian networks. Having a model of the correct process, the early detection of any deviation of the normal behavior is possible. A case study of a steam generator (boiler) of a power plant is presented.","PeriodicalId":424662,"journal":{"name":"2011 16th International Conference on Intelligent System Applications to Power Systems","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-11-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129527462","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A weather pattern classification is made by applying a multivariate methodology based on principal components to the Atlantic geopotential height field. From such classification, a set of composite plots are illustrated, showing how the different obtained atmospheric patterns have influence over the wind speed behaviour and the wind speed values. Moreover, the relationships between the obtained principal components and the observational local wind speeds are also provided in terms of the wind speed cumulated probability values and the associated curve area values related to the highest and lowest scores of the component's time series.","PeriodicalId":424662,"journal":{"name":"2011 16th International Conference on Intelligent System Applications to Power Systems","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-11-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128383866","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The final objective of the strategy is improving the speed of convergence of the Neural Adaptive Filter and reduces the steady-state error. The Recursive Least Square (RLS) algorithm was used to adjust the coefficients. The new strategy proposed doesn't use a Phased Looked Loop (PLL) to generate the orthogonal input signals for the neural adaptive notch filter. These two signals are generated with Clarke transformation of the load current and then the two orthogonal signals are filtered. With this, the total transient response drops below one cycle of the fundamental frequency (60Hz). Simulations using Matlab/Simulink are presented to clarify the algorithm. Also practical implementation is performed using the DSP Texas Instruments TMS320F2812 in a shunt active power filters (SAPF) and the results depicted.","PeriodicalId":424662,"journal":{"name":"2011 16th International Conference on Intelligent System Applications to Power Systems","volume":"270 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-11-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116118665","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Taking into account the variability of electric power generated by wind power plants, the transactions on the balancing market will increase, leading to higher costs associated with the balance of generation and demand. It is our belief that using wind power forecasts can help in reducing these costs. This paper presents the results of a comparative study between two artificial intelligence based models applied in the specific case of predicting the total wind power installed in the Romanian power system - artificial neural networks and fuzzy inference systems. The tests show that both methods could deliver good results, provided they are used with sufficiently large training sets, but the fuzzy inference approach demonstrates better performances.","PeriodicalId":424662,"journal":{"name":"2011 16th International Conference on Intelligent System Applications to Power Systems","volume":"485 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-11-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123405909","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
