There are several types of treatment for breast cancer patients and one of them is chemotherapy. The frequency of chemotherapy can cause several effects that can worsen the patient's functional status. Functional status is an ability to perform daily tasks that include work, self-care, and maintenance of family or social roles. This study aims to identify ADL compliance in breast cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy. This study used a descriptive design, the sample was taken using a non-probability sampling method, namely accidental sampling and the instrument used was a questionnaire compiled using a Likert scale. The reliability test of this study used a Cronbach Alpha of 0.917. Data collection was carried out from September 2015 to August 2016. The description of ADL fulfillment of breast cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy was described to determine the frequency and percentage. The results showed that the fulfillment of ADL in breast cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy was independent (20 people, 54.1%), partial dependence (10 people, 27%), and total dependence (7 people, 18.9%). It can be concluded that most breast cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy can carry out their Activity Daily Living with an independent level of ability. The role of parents through the applied parenting is very necessary in providing information related to reproductive health. However, parents often consider it taboo if teenagers ask questions related to reproductive health so that teenagers will seek the information they need from irresponsible sources that allow them to adapt their deviant behavior. This study aims to identify the relationship between parenting and providing information about adolescent reproductive health at SMA Negeri 3 Pematangsiantar. This study used a cross sectional design. The sample of this research is 79 students. Sampling used proportional stratified random sampling and simple random sampling. The results of this study indicate that the parenting style that tends to be applied by adolescent parents is democratic (92.4%) with the provision of information about adolescent reproductive health in the good category (73.4%). The results of the analysis of the relationship between parenting and providing information about adolescent reproductive health measured by the Pearson product moment test indicate that parenting applied by parents has an important role in providing information to adolescents about adolescent reproductive health with a p value of 0.00 (? < 0.05) and correlation (r) = 0.420.","PeriodicalId":42453,"journal":{"name":"African Journal of Nursing and Midwifery","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2021-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"82911906","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Although there is some change towards the positive, AIDS still remains a significantly stigmatized condition. AIDS stigma and discrimination continue to influence people living with and affected by HIV (PLWA), as well as their health-care providers. Unless stigma is conquered, the illness will not be defeated. Due to the burden that HIV/AIDS places on people living in Africa, a five-year project entitled Perceived AIDS Stigma: A Multinational African Study was undertaken. The focus of the first phase of this project was on exploring and describing the meaning and effect of stigma on PLWA from the experiences of PLWA and the nurses involved in their care in five African countries: Lesotho, Swaziland, Malawi, South Africa and Tanzania. An exploratory descriptive qualitative research design was used to explore and describe the experience of stigma through the critical incident method. Purposive voluntary sampling was utilized. Forty-three focus group discussions were held with respondents to relate incidences which they themselves observed, as well as those that they themselves experienced in the community and in families. The transcribed data was analyzed through the technique of open coding using the NVivo 2.0 analysis package. Three types of stigma (received stigma, internal stigma and associated stigma) and several dimensions for each of these types of stigma emerged from the data.
