Relying on their ethnographic experiences to actively explore the livelihood in conjunction with cultural heritages and social practices of the local people, such undertakings provided a contextual basis for this research. Conceptually informed by the edifying model of Cooperative and Collaborative (C&C) pedagogy used during the 2017 KMITL-BSU collaborative efforts, the inquiries examined the workshops and field trips in Si Satchanalai district for their roles in: 1) advancing tacit knowledge of the participants on the assigned subject matters; and 2) expanding a horizon of understanding between the Thai and foreign partakers. Altogether, the upcoming discussions demonstrated the methodological applicability of the C&C approach in architectural and design education, coupled with its scholarly merits in cross-cultural learning.","PeriodicalId":423756,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 3rd International Conference on Information and Education Innovations","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128883831","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Today, as information technology (IT) had increasingly been integrated with travel activities, this paper presented an exploratory research on an application software for tourism safety, experimented at the UNESCO World Heritage Site in Si Satchanalai Historical Park in Thailand. In effect, the aims of the Smart World Heritage Si Satchanalai Application (SWHSA) were to supply tourists with a customizable, diversified, and cost-effective cybernetic means to conceive and organize their travel planning, which could be tailored to suit particular needs of the users according to their: 1) travel durations; 2) types of leisure activities; and 3) numbers of attractions preferred to see in a certain length of time. As shown by the upcoming analytical and evaluative discussions, the said criteria were specified by the distance, in conjunction with variety and distribution of places intended to visit per day by the users. Altogether, the investigations on SWHSA demonstrated its values in terms of an interactive IT model that provided multifaceted information-which not only: 1) helped the inhabitants and state authority in Si Satchanalai monitor and respond to evolving situations on tourism safety in real time; and 2) enabled travelers to expediently plan their trips as they desired.","PeriodicalId":423756,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 3rd International Conference on Information and Education Innovations","volume":"1984 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131338802","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Two issues were explored-how Google classroom was used as a tool for students' self-reflection and how self-regulated learning is encouraged. There were 78 first-year students of English Language Education participating in this study. They took a two-credit Extensive Reading course that required 100-minute per meeting per week accompanied with other individual and group assignments. Data were collected from observations, documents, students' reflective notes, and a focus group discussion. Results show that Google Classroom is likeable for students and serves as flexible, manageable, and ubiquitous tool for students' learning reflection. Further, when adeptly designed, it can help develop students' positive attitudes in learning and promote students' self-regulated learning. Students are able to control their own learning, being pro-active to communicate with teachers, and fully understand some consequences of late submission of tasks. Despite of its disadvantages such as unavailable chat-rooms and conferences, this application offers many fruitful benefits for learning even for beginners of technology users. Several pedagogical recommendations on future implementation is also discussed.","PeriodicalId":423756,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 3rd International Conference on Information and Education Innovations","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114663830","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This is a technique in which learners are given greater responsibility in the learning process so that they will have a better understanding. This was done by providing structured learning support and encouraging students to learn more independently. Scaffolding learning on learning English was divided into two strategies: reading strategy with LIE (Literal, Inferential, Evaluative) and writing strategy with sentence building process, prewriting, drafting, revising, editing and submitting. Meanwhile, the application of scaffolding on both learning strategies was a gradual release responsibility with four stages of modeling, sharing, guiding, and applying. Based on the measurement of English learning outcome, all students passed the requirements. Improved skills of both learning skills are seen in the pretest and posttest improvement of 21.8 and 78.1 respectively. It can be concluded that scaffolding learning is an effective method to improve the English proficiency of the students of Mechanical Engineering Program in the first semester.","PeriodicalId":423756,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 3rd International Conference on Information and Education Innovations","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123405134","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A fuzzy logic system is used to evaluate the learner's knowledge level for each concept in the domain and produce a ranked concept list of learning materials to address weaknesses in the learner's understanding. This system will obtain information on a learner's understanding of concepts by an initial pre-test before the system is used for learning and a post-test after using the learning system. A fuzzy logic system is used to produce a weighted concept map during the learning process. The aim of this research is to prove that such a proposed novel adapted e-learning system will enhance a learner's performance and understanding. In addition, this research aims to increase participants' overall learning level and effectiveness by providing a coloured concept map of understanding followed by a ranked concepts list of learning materials.","PeriodicalId":423756,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 3rd International Conference on Information and Education Innovations","volume":"93 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132392694","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

At the course level, it has become important to redesign traditional content-driven courses to include specific students learning outcomes. This might be particularly challenging for General Education courses probably because of the general scope of these courses. Developing learning outcomes may ignore the integrative approaches and broader purposes associated with General education. This paper presents a case where learning outcomes have been redefined at a General Education course at a newly-accredited university in Abu Dhabi. The paper argues that mapping of course learning outcomes ensures alignment within the program and across the entire course. Students' perceptions were explored via a student survey at the end of the instruction program. This paper also includes discussion of issues and challenges such as the role of faculty in course redesign.","PeriodicalId":423756,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 3rd International Conference on Information and Education Innovations","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133365804","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the early systems have never dealt with the numbers of learners that current Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) provide. Thus, the umbrella question that this work tackles is if learner characteristics can predict their overall, but also fine-grain behaviour. Earlier results point at differences related to gender or to age. Here, we analyse gender versus commenting behaviour. Our fine-grained analysis shows that the result may further depend on the course topic, or even week. Surprisingly, for instance, women chat less in a Psychology-related course, but more (or similar) on a Computer Science course. These results are analysed in this paper in details, including two different methods of averaging comments, leading to remarkably different results. The outcomes can help in informing future runs, in terms of potential personalised feedback for teachers and students.","PeriodicalId":423756,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 3rd International Conference on Information and Education Innovations","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133932087","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
