Information nodes and links between them care dynamically determined corresponding to the structure of the recognition models. In this paper, a state-transition type expression is proposed to describe flexible and compound models for recognition on live hypermedia. The system can detect not only TV program categories but also their contents. The state transition type model is evaluated in these aspects: retrieval efficiency, code reusability, and computing time during recognition. The formal basis establishes a precise mathematical framework for supporting a wide spectrum of structured collaborative tasks, ranging from sample meetings and conferences to classrooms and examinations, and from corporate negotiations, work flow tasks, and team design endeavours to courtroom hearings. We mechanize three levels of abstraction: streams at the lowest level, for media communication, sessions at the next level, which represent collections of semantically related media streams, and conferences, which represent temporally related sequences of sessions. The mathematical framework has been mechanized in Prototype Verification System from SRI International. We are experimenting with the concept of intelligent classroom information agents (ICIA's) as a means to facilitate information and learning. It forces us to assign new roles to teachers, students and the Center for Technology in Education (CTE) staff as defined by the ICIA standard. What this implies is a drastic change in the negotiation process followed by the undergraduate agents and their peers. We emphasize a strict division between human agents and software agents, since only the former can perform real life (e.g. emotional cultural political) negotiations. The latter will remain as tools to motivate the exchange of ideas and data. Therefore, the first step in the educational process included the development of an automated lecture aid which makes extensive use of hypertext and a library style catalog of datastructure concept simulations, which we call Workplace. We are currently guiding and evaluating a cultural transformation process in which the students must re learn how to take in class notes and study with the aid of the software tools here described. In MPI video, a viewer could view an event from multiple perspectives, even based on the contents of the events. Using strategically located multiple cameras a set of image sequences is obtained and used to build a 3-dimensional model of the important events in a scene. Considering the request of a user, the system decides the best camera at every time instant and edits image sequences from these camera, much like an editor in standard live sport events, to provide a user the video sequence of the episode from the user's desired perspective. Our system features automatic camera selection and interaction using three-dimensional cursors. We present results of a prototype which is a part of our early efforts to establish a framework of MPI video. Our prototype is a football video retrieval system. A VOD server is a computer system that stores videos in compressed digital form and provides support for the concurrent transmission of different portions of the compressed video data to the various viewers. We present novel demand paging algorithms that provide rate guarantees while utilizing the limited buffer space effectively and eliminating the disk bandwidth limitation. Our schemes, therefore, increase the number of clients that can be serviced concurrently. It is axiomatic by now that interactivity will affect many companies and many careers. The author provides an overview of the topic for corporate strategists, money managers and entrepreneurs. It explains the technology and the strategies of many key players and tries to draw reasoned conclusions about winners, losers and business opportunities. Digitization of content and the advent of broadband, two-way networks will transform communication to and from the American home, creating new markets and radically transforming existing delivery systems. The paper presents ongoing work on using domain knowledge to parse content of soccer video programs. The proposed system can classify a sequence of soccer frames into various play categories, such as shot at left goal, top left corner kick play in right penalty area, in midfield, etc, based on a priori model comprising four major components: a soccer court, a ball, the players and the motion vectors. Approaches in applying the model for parsing soccer programs are presented in detail. While key-frame browsing discourages theft by not giving the customer the full clip in advance, it may discourage the purchase of some clips because it is not full motion video. We present a new technique for theft resistant video browsing by using limited content, motion browsing clips. Such clips retain most of the important and essential features and content of the original video. Perceptual studies show that people can recognize important features from heavily-filtered image sequences. We also address the issue of scheduling communication over the multiprocessor switch for the playback of the scheduled movies. A solution is proposed that addresses these three issues at once. The proposed solution minimizes contention for links over the switch. The proposed solution makes movie scheduling very simple-if the first block of the movie is scheduled, the rest of the movie is automatically scheduled.
