However, in about 1997, the women with headscarves also gained visibility in education and this led to certain social events in Turkey. The practice widely known as “headscarf ban” that began in 1997 decreed the expulsion of women with headscarves from the higher education process. When it is considered that the mandatory education in Turkey is 12 years and that the undergraduate education takes 4 years, the headscarf ban during the 1997-2013 corresponds to a period in which a person accumulates her human capital. This study is on how women who have been systematically cast out from education and employment perceive: a) their forfeited role in the development of Turkey’s economy; b) their own assessment of their lack of employment due to the headscarf ban; and c) being barred from education, their individual losses and Turkey’s economic prosperity.","PeriodicalId":422780,"journal":{"name":"OPUS Journal of Society Research","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130435062","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In order to improve the caliber of the services they offer, managers in the accommodation industry require their staff to display prosocial behaviors by developing strong cognitive and emotional relationships with their companies. The ability of employees to identify with organizations and show prosocial behaviors depends on the support provided within the organization and the degree of their perception of this support. Therefore, the study aims to determine the mediating role of organizational identification in the effect of organizational support perceptions of employees in accommodation businesses on their prosocial service behaviors. For this purpose, data were obtained from 397 employees in four and five-star accommodation businesses operating in Antalya province. The procured data were analyzed with computer programs. The findings of the study revealed that participants' perceptions of organizational support have a positive and significant impact on their prosocial service behavior and organizational identity. Additionally, it was determined that organizational identification influences prosocial service behaviors significantly and positively. The final finding was that organizational identification partially mediates the relationship between participants' perceptions of organizational support and prosocial service behaviors.","PeriodicalId":422780,"journal":{"name":"OPUS Journal of Society Research","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130909773","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As an alternative to this, the circular economy has recently gained popularity. The CE promises a more sustainable system through decreasing resource leakage from the economic system via circulating economic activities from production to consumption. However, there is not a clear blueprint on the institutionalization of the CE. To provide an answer to this problem, this research focused on the Small and Medium Entrepreneurs (the SMEs). After qualitatively analysing the secondary data derived from the literature within an institutionalist theoretical framework, the research found that the structural dependence of the SMEs on the existing LE system prevents them from performing proper CE actions. As a solution, the state emerges as a macro-level rule-breaker, which could play a catalyst role in the SMEs’ transition to the CE. Particularly, it could provide necessary regulative frameworks, financial sources, technological infrastructures, and a circular change in consumers’ attitudes, which are strategically important to drive the SMEs towards the CE system. Therefore, this paper argues that the re-conceptualization of state-market relationship is an initial need to successfully govern an institutional change towards the CE.","PeriodicalId":422780,"journal":{"name":"OPUS Journal of Society Research","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121293425","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Data were collected from 147 and 144 university students in Canada and Turkey, respectively, and analyzed using PROCESS analysis. The results of the analyses revealed that the moderating role of health consciousness is significant in the food quality-purchase intention and price sensitivity-purchase intention relationships in both samples. Understanding these mechanisms is of substantive importance for managers and policymakers considering the growing prevalence of fast-food products in most developed and developing countries and their consumption by university students.","PeriodicalId":422780,"journal":{"name":"OPUS Journal of Society Research","volume":"70 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132238154","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this context, it is aimed to examine the mediating role of self-efficacy between resilience and hopelessness. For this purpose, the data were collected online from 362 volunteer participants (217 female, 145 male) by using snow-ball sampling method. In accordance with the scope of the study, a questionnaire consisting of 'Demographic Information Form', 'Beck Hopelessness Scale', 'Short Psychological Resilience Scale' and 'General Self-Efficacy Scale' were applied to the participants. Firstly, the assump-tions of normality and homogeneity were tested for the analyzes to be carried out on the ob-tained data. In order to test the statistical significance of the proposed mediation model, the Bootstrapping Method was used through the software developed by Hayes. Obtained results showed that psychological resilience was significantly and negatively related to hopelessness; but positively related to self-efficacy. In fact, self-efficacy perception was found to be negative-ly related to hopelessness. Lastly, according to the analyzes carried out within the framework of mediation models, it was found that self-efficacy had a mediation role in the relationship between psychological resilience and hopelessness. All findings were discussed within the framework of the related literature.","PeriodicalId":422780,"journal":{"name":"OPUS Journal of Society Research","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122438410","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this sense, mobbing behaviour is especially applied to employees in both public and private organizations and generally inferiors are exposed to these kind of attacks by their superiors/supervisors. In addition, mobbing is also a growing problem in educational organizations, especially in universities. Furthermore, mobbing behavior not only affects their academic success but also their private life; in the sense that they are affected psychologically and they lose their psychological and mental health, as mentioned. In this frame, the purpose of this study is to reveal the perceptions and attitudes of academic staff in universities towards mobbing. In the scope of the research, academicians that work in foundation universities in the city of Istanbul, Türkiye are defined as the sample. A total of 166 academicians have participated in the research. The gathered data is analyzed via SPSS 22.0 package programme. According to the results, there is statistically significant difference between the socio-demographic (gender, age, marital status, monthly income, academic department, academic experience) characteristics of academicians and their attitudes towards mobbing.","PeriodicalId":422780,"journal":{"name":"OPUS Journal of Society Research","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134269005","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

After the existence of the World Social Forum-WSF, thematic forums, regional forums, and national and local forums were also created accordingly. All of the Social Forums have been developed as global action platforms that mobilize the masses around the world and reveal social principles against the globalisation order. This study aims to analyse and evaluate the effectiveness and transformation of social forums, especially the WSF taking the 21 years into account. This article argues that Social Forums formed a discourse, action and policy in their founding years, and nowadays they have lost their effectiveness and weakened especially in terms of mass participation, creating excitement and offering an alternative suitable to the motto \"another world is possible\". The method of this research consists of a literature review, conceptual analysis and the author’s observations by participation in some of the Social Forums. This study compiles many non-academic elements such as the documents and statements published as a result of the social forums and the views of the leading activists of the social forums and considers them from the academic perspective.","PeriodicalId":422780,"journal":{"name":"OPUS Journal of Society Research","volume":"188 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114041604","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The effect of ownership identity on the capital structure adjustment speed has been investigated within the scope of family and non-family firms. The seven firms have been classified as non-family firms (NFF) and twelve as family firms (FF). The capital structure adjustment speed for family and non-family firms has been composed of the classical dynamic partial adjustment model. The Generalized Moments Method (GMM) model has been used as the econometric model in estimating the models. The results obtained from the study revealed that there is no significant difference between the debt ratios of family companies and non-family firms. The adjustment speed of family firms has been determined as 68%, and the adjustment speed of non-family firms has been approximately 56%. The capital structure adjustment speed of family firms is higher than non-family firms. The results show that family firms are less exposed to financial constraints than other firms increasing their borrowing capability, thus enabling them to reach the target debt level faster. The findings suggest that ownership structure plays a vital role in capital adjustment behavior.","PeriodicalId":422780,"journal":{"name":"OPUS Journal of Society Research","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131861750","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To determine the level of disclosure of sustainability information, firstly, content analysis was conducted within the scope of GRI4. Then, a two-way ANOVA test was applied to determine the statistical differences between countries and years in terms of the level of information disclosure. According to the results of the study, the highest level of disclosure for banks in Slovakia and Turkey was for general standards information, while the lowest level of disclosure was for environmental information. In addition, significant differences were determined in terms of reporting across both years and countries. The disclosure score for countries has shown a steady but small increase over the years. In addition, the information disclosure scores of the countries were close to each other, especially for 2019 and 2020, and there were no major differences. This research contributes to the literature by comparatively presenting the level of sustainability reporting of large-scale commercial banks in the banking sector of two countries within the scope of the GRI Financial Services Sector disclosure index.","PeriodicalId":422780,"journal":{"name":"OPUS Journal of Society Research","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116836816","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
