Any eavesdropper can attack in the communication channel, and any malicious intermediate node can act as receiver to intercept the message. The secure routing path must solve channel attacks and attacks in the malicious node. In the classical field, the solution of the channel attacks is conditional security and we can not provide secure communication in the routing path from sender to receiver. In the quantum field, the security of the authentication protocol is based on the laws of nature, including no-cloning theorem and quantum teleportation. According to the property of no-cloning theorem and quantum teleportation, we can use the shared quantum entangled particles between communicators for liar detection problem. In the quantum cryptography, the security of the authentication protocol is unconditional security. This paper designs the two-way secure communication protocol, which can set up the secure routing path from sender to receiver. The two-way secure communication protocol includes the sender oriented checking and the receiver oriented checking. By using quantum sharing table, these checking schemes investigate whether the routing path is secure or not. In the beginning, the sender and receiver pre-share a quantum sharing table to detect all the dishonest nodes. The quantum sharing table acts as a quantum key distribution which can not be stolen by any Eve. Furthermore, the protocol can teleport a quantum state from sender to receiver to identify whether the communication channel and the intermediate nodes are honest or not. Then, the protocol can achieve the secure routing path to verify the real sender and receiver and confirm that all intermediate nodes are honest. Based on this mechanism, we can achieve high liar detection probability.","PeriodicalId":422543,"journal":{"name":"2007 41st Annual IEEE International Carnahan Conference on Security Technology","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-10-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129783484","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The Hyogo Prefectural Government, which has been playing a leading role in providing measures for safety and security of Japanese society since the Great Hanshin Awaji Earthquake, is used as a good representative model, and the practicality of the new framework is justified by detailed security risk analyses of the physical systems and surveys. Potential department level security threats are clearly identified and effective countermeasure mechanisms are proposed based on the risk analyses. The paper also shows why it is essential to prepare local government personnel, who are in charge of the system, to understand their system and manage them effectively rather than rely on the services of outsourcing companies.","PeriodicalId":422543,"journal":{"name":"2007 41st Annual IEEE International Carnahan Conference on Security Technology","volume":"67 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-10-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126301771","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

From the several modalities existing nowadays, Vascular systems have appeared in scene lately. Vein-based identification is claimed to be as reliable as fingerprint or iris, but with the usability of hand geometry or even face. But as any other biometric modalities, Vascular solutions have to be deeply analyzed for all relevant factors than could affect their performance or the security level achieved. This paper will give an overview to the palm-based biometrics, in order to introduce the reader to the work done by the authors in analyzing the performance and security achieved by these solutions in several real-world scenarios. Results will show the strengths of this modality, as well as those points where further improvements are needed.","PeriodicalId":422543,"journal":{"name":"2007 41st Annual IEEE International Carnahan Conference on Security Technology","volume":"140 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-10-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114825352","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The image quality assessment method proposed in the paper combines human visual system (HVS) with objective method to evaluation the image quality of X-ray system. The assessment process and method simulate the human vision characteristics to separate and analyze regions of interest which correspondent to the technical specification under the Chinese national standard from the entire image. The technical specifications of detection performance of X-ray system include two aspects: image resolution and material differentiation ability which correspondent to different technical specifications. The existence and integrality, the hue and saturation are achieved respectively according to different specification requirements using objective method. The assessment results are achieved compared with the corresponding threshold values obtained by a series of special designed experiments implemented by experienced operators. Simulations and experiments verified the method.","PeriodicalId":422543,"journal":{"name":"2007 41st Annual IEEE International Carnahan Conference on Security Technology","volume":"131 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-10-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115555265","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Some identity-based authenticated group key agreement schemes are proposed, however most of these protocols are vulnerable to insider attacks, while the other protocols are not efficient in communication. In this paper a new authenticated group key agreement protocol is proposed based on a modified identity-based cryptography infrastructure with new system setup and key extraction algorithms. The main feature of this protocol is that it needs only one round, which is optimal in terms of communication complexity; meanwhile the protocol is secure against insider attacks such as impersonation attacks and other known attacks.","PeriodicalId":422543,"journal":{"name":"2007 41st Annual IEEE International Carnahan Conference on Security Technology","volume":"62 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-10-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126618097","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Just as spread spectrum technology has revolutionized the communications industry, UWB is dramatically changing radar signal processing. These advanced signal-processing techniques are adapted to leaky coaxial cable technology in the next generation GUIDAR to provide new features and enhanced performance. At the core of the new technology is an ultra high-speed digital correlator implemented in a Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA). Complementary orthogonal codes based on Golay codes are used to produce thumbtack correlation functions simultaneously in multiple range bins. The net result is \"near continuous wave (CW)\" performance in forty to eighty 11.6-meter long-range bins with targets located within one meter along the length of cable. This is a dramatic improvement over the 3% duty cycle of the original GUIDAR and the typical 100 to 200 meter-long zones of current CW leaky cable sensors. Uncorrelated complementary codes are transmitted on each of two leaky coaxial cables. The responses from two parallel receive cables are digitized directly and down converted to baseband using quarter rate translation. The uncorrelated nature of the code allows the A and B sides of the processor to operate without interfering with each other. Synchronous sampling at twice the chip rate ensures that each target is observed in three adjacent sample bins. The phase and amplitude response in the three adjacent samples are combined to precisely pinpoint (within 1 meter) the locations of targets along the length of each of the two cables. The ability to precisely locate and track multiple simultaneous targets on each of two cables leads to numerous new features and performance benefits relative to existing leaky cable sensors. With a separate calibrated threshold for every meter of cable, the sensor sensitivity is much more uniform and installation restrictions on burial depth, cable spacing and medium homogeneity can be relaxed. Potential sources of nuisance alarms can easily be located and overcome. The pinpoint location can be used to provide better CCTV assessment, target capture for video motion sensors and more effective response to intrusions. Through the use of parallel cables the sensor can be used to detect the direction of crossing and to classify targets such as small animals, people and vehicles. This patented next generation of GUIDAR technology represents a dramatic step forward from that which was introduced at the 1976 Carnahan Conference in Lexington Kentucky and the numerous CW leaky coaxial cable sensors that evolved from that work. This technology effectively addresses residential, commercial, industrial and governmental requirements, including those relating to Homeland Security, military operations and prisons.","PeriodicalId":422543,"journal":{"name":"2007 41st Annual IEEE International Carnahan Conference on Security Technology","volume":"91 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-10-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114511856","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Gun crime is known to occur in environments that fall under the view of the networks of CCTV cameras which are endemic in urban Britain. Consequently, CCTV has the potential to detect gun crime. However, CCTV operators face a near impossible task: often, each individual operator is required to monitor multiple cameras for extended time periods. It is not surprising then to find that CCTV has had little effect at reducing gun crime. A new collaborative research programme (MEDUSA) is underway across the UK which will develop a software application to aid CCTV operators detect the precursors of gun crime. MEDUSA aims automatically to detect both guns as objects (concealed or otherwise) and people who intend to commit gun crime, via CCTV. The system is partly based on eliciting the features that skilled CCTV operators identify as indicative of a concealed weapon or suspicious behaviour related to gun crime. Initial studies into the examination of these skills across several CCTV centres indicate that there was little formal instruction in the detection of mal-intent. Much skill is built up from prolonged experience in examining CCTV imagery. Thus, potentially, there is widespread individualisation of detection skills. Further, visual cues specific to gun crime were limited. However, the present methodology relied upon direct report. It is argued that a range of both consciously and subconsciously detected cues could facilitate gun detection via CCTV. Future studies will examine this possibility.","PeriodicalId":422543,"journal":{"name":"2007 41st Annual IEEE International Carnahan Conference on Security Technology","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-10-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125999807","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
