The new developed algorithm is well suited to be used in progressive image transmission (PIT). Advantage of the method relies on the learning process and adaptation capability of NN's to reduce the matrices computation complexity and the total number of pyramid levels required for PIT. The proposed technique is evaluated in terms of improvements in datagram error rate and datagram latency. The start-up filter is a half-band Butterworth filter. The frequency transformations already developed for elliptic filters are adapted for the Butterworth filler case. The constants in all-pass branches are directly computed from the constants of the start-up filter and the desired cut-off frequency. Next, we examine multilevel IIR filter banks composed of Butterworth filter pairs with variable crossover frequency. The discontinuity detection in a non-stationary signal is analyzed using Daubechies, elliptic, and Butterworth half-band filters. The FPGAs have become one of leading platforms for implementation of digital signal processing. However, there is still not defined straight forward path for DSP design process on FPGAs. In this paper the techniques for digital signal processing algorithms implementation with FPGAs are presented. Beside the traditional technique we present the IP instantiation technique from MATLAB and Simulink and the most promising C/C++ extensions, including the behavioural synthesis. The algorithm is based on wavelet packets. Our basic idea is to decompose the original image into a series of details at different scales by using wavelet packets; a binary image used as a watermark is then embedded into the different levels of details. The embedding process includes: usage of an unique (secret) binary identification key to select the wavelet decomposition scheme, wavelet packet decomposition, selection of the wavelet coefficient groups to be used for hiding the watermark, insertion of the watermark in the corresponding group of coefficients by modifying the mean value of the group and inverse wavelet transform.
