Sponges are a species of marine biota that can be used as a producer of antimicrobial compounds. The bacteria found in sponges have an important role in the continuity of life in the sea. The symbiotic lifestyle that occurs in bacteria and sponges has the opportunity to form substitutions for the content of secondary metabolites and enzymes, especially extracellular enzymes (amylase, protease, cellulose and lipase). This study aims to determine how to isolate sponge symbiotic bacteria and identify spongy symbiotic bacteria. The method used is purposive to take sponges. Characterization of bacteria was carried out based on morphology and gram staining. Enzymatic bacterial selection was carried out by testing the activity of the amylase enzyme (soluble starch), lipase enzyme (Teen 80), protease enzyme (skim milk) and cellulose enzyme (carboxyl methyl cellulose). Data analysis was performed in a qualitative descriptive manner by measuring the clear zone in the extracellular enzyme test results. Meanwhile, other research parameters measured in this study were temperature, salinity and pH. The results showed that out of 47 isolated bacteria and 33 of them had extracellular enzymes with 10 bacteria had amylase enzymes, 27 bacteria had lipase enzymes, 2 bacteria had protease enzymes and 1 isolate had cellulose enzymes.","PeriodicalId":422054,"journal":{"name":"JURNAL PEMBELAJARAN DAN BIOLOGI NUKLEUS","volume":"23 13","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139196970","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An example of an infectious disease that is commonly encountered during adolescence is acne (Acne vulgaris). Antibiotics can be used to treat acne; however, their misuse can lead to the development of resistance; therefore, we are searching for inexpensive, readily available alternatives that are also secure. Mangosteen leaves (Garcinia mangostana L.) are one alternative to synthetic ingredients when it comes to the treatment of acne. Mangosteen leaves comprise xanthone derivative compounds that exhibit significant biological activity, including antioxidant, antibacterial, and antimicrobial properties. Therefore, this this study aimed to ascertain the inhibitory power of an ethanol extract derived from mangosteen leaves in order to determine its antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus epidermidis bacteria. Additionally, the compound content of the ethanol extract of mangosteen leaves was determined. The inhibition test was conducted by utilizing the paper disc technique, while the extraction method employed the maceration method. As indicated by the phytochemical screening test results, simplicia and ethanol extract of mangosteen leaves were found to contain steroids/triterpenoids, alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, and tannins. The inhibition test outcomes against Staphylococcus epidermidis bacteria revealed the following: a diameter of 3.3 mm for bacteria at a concentration of 20%, 9.4 mm for bacteria at 40%, 10.4 mm for bacteria at 60%, 12.9 mm for bacteria at 80%, and 13.2 mm for bacteria at 100%","PeriodicalId":422054,"journal":{"name":"JURNAL PEMBELAJARAN DAN BIOLOGI NUKLEUS","volume":"52 2","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139241268","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Waste which initially became an environmental pollutant factor could be processed into more useful products. Tofu liquid waste was referred to whey was a by-product of tofu production. Whey was waste that still contains organic materials such as protein, fat, carbohydrates and minerals. That whey was used as a growth medium for Acetobacter xylinum bacteria and produces cellulose biopolymer as a result of carbohydrate fermentation. The process of optimizing carbohydrate fermentation by Acetobacter xylinum bacteria was carried out by varying the ratio of the amount of whey to coconut water, the acidity level of the media, and the fermentation time. The research results showed that the biosynthesis of cellulose biopolymer was obtained from a ratio of whey concentration to coconut water of 1:1, variations in acidity levels showed that the optimum fermentation conditions occurred at pH 4, and the optimal amount of cellulose biopolymer was obtained on day 21, namely with the highest percent yield value. One of the causes of climate change is the increase of CO2 gas in the air. Forests can absorb CO2 from the air and store it in the form of tree biomass through the process of photosynthesis. One of the forests that can absorb and store carbon is Pertamina Hulu Rokan (PHR) forest, therefore it is necessary to conduct research on estimating the carbon content of PHR Forest area. The methods to be used in this research are non-destructive sampling and destructive sampling methods. The method with harvesting is only for seedlings, undergrowth and litter, while for saplings, poles, trees and necromass with the method without harvesting. Aboveground carbon storage in PHR forest was found to be 95.37 tonnes/ha. The largest carbon stocks were from trees (68.96 tonnes/ha), poles (13.06 tonnes/ha), necromas (5.70 tonnes/ha), litter (3.72 tonnes/ha), saplings (3.54 tonnes/ha) and the smallest carbon stocks were seedlings and understorey (0.39 tonnes/ha).","PeriodicalId":422054,"journal":{"name":"JURNAL PEMBELAJARAN DAN BIOLOGI NUKLEUS","volume":"176 ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139242222","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
