Both layers share the same spectrum so that spontaneous intercell interference is unavoidable and needs to be identified and canceled afterwards. In order to address the subsequent interference management, this paper proposes an intercell interference channel estimation scheme for HetNets using compressive sensing (CS). Applying CS to analog orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) signals not only achieves lower cost sub-Nyquist sampling but also reduces interference by spreading out the energy of reference symbols of interference link that overlaps data symbols of desired link. Our scheme enhances both desired data symbols and interference channel by canceling the estimations of each other from the received signal in turn iteratively. Simulation results show that our scheme obtains accurate estimation of interference channel and is robust to variations in multipath number and signal-to-interference ratio (SIR).","PeriodicalId":420837,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE 15th International Workshop on Signal Processing Advances in Wireless Communications (SPAWC)","volume":"132 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-06-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130790757","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

EE of the secondary transmission is optimized while satisfying the primary rate requirement and the secondary power constraint. EE is defined as the ratio of the achievable secondary rate and the secondary power consumption, including both the transmit power and the circuit power. Numerical results show that higher EE can be achieved at the cost of achievable rate compared with that of MIMO underlay spectrum sharing with rate optimization, and that rate splitting is beneficial in terms of EE.","PeriodicalId":420837,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE 15th International Workshop on Signal Processing Advances in Wireless Communications (SPAWC)","volume":"88 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-06-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133063573","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The two transceivers in each pair wish to communicate bidirectionally through several distributed relays. We assume that one of the pairs is the primary pair, meaning that it owns radio frequency spectrum resources and needs to be serviced with a minimum guaranteed rate. The other pair, called the secondary pair, is assumed to own the relay infrastructure. The secondary network allows the primary pair to use the relays in order to establish a bidirectional communication between its transceivers. In exchange for this cooperation, the primary pair assigns a portion of its spectral resources to the secondary pair, for setting up a two-way communication between the secondary transceivers. Assuming amplify-and-forward relaying scheme, the relays collectively build two network beamformers, each of which enables communication between the two transceivers in one pair. To optimally calculate the primary and secondary network parameters, we propose a max-min optimization problem which is amenable to a simple line search based solution with a low computational complexity.","PeriodicalId":420837,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE 15th International Workshop on Signal Processing Advances in Wireless Communications (SPAWC)","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-06-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117136687","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Even for networks of single antenna nodes with time-invariant channels, several approaches to interference alignment have been proposed. Those schemes construct transmitted signals that are not circularly symmetric by using symbols from real-valued constellations. In this paper we develop an alternative scheme that employs widely linear precoding of symbols from conventional complex-valued constellations at the transmitters, and a periodic conjugation operation at the receivers. Like the existing schemes, the proposed scheme achieves the degrees of freedom of the channel, and it adds the convenience of enabling the use of conventional constellations. To tackle the difficult problem of optimizing the sum rate under the interference alignment constraint, we develop an efficient algorithm on the Grassmannian manifold, and we demonstrate that this algorithm can reduce the power offset and hence provide significant increases in the sum rate at low to moderate SNRs.","PeriodicalId":420837,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE 15th International Workshop on Signal Processing Advances in Wireless Communications (SPAWC)","volume":"121 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-06-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127083561","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This presents a challenge to other functions in the receiver such as frame synchronization. In this paper we examine the trade-off between increased complexity and the improvement in energy and spectral efficiency of code-aided frame synchronization. Parallel and serial approaches to the frame synchronization problem are considered as well as methods for minimizing their complexity. We identify regions over which code-aided frame synchronization improves performance, with respect to a conventional receiver, while maintaining reasonable complexity.","PeriodicalId":420837,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE 15th International Workshop on Signal Processing Advances in Wireless Communications (SPAWC)","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-06-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117218805","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We introduce a new formulation for the joint ZF and PA problem by adapting the algebraic subspace approach which finds a proper set for the optimization variable that inherently satisfies the ZF constraints. Also, the squared group Lasso penalty on the BF matrix is used to linearize (relax) the non-convex, NP-hard problem of joint BF and AS. Extensive simulations show that for the throughput problem, the proposed algorithm performs very closely to the optimal (exhaustive search) joint approach.","PeriodicalId":420837,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE 15th International Workshop on Signal Processing Advances in Wireless Communications (SPAWC)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-06-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131379124","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is assumed that the channel state information (CSI) associated with both hops are only available at the corresponding receivers, while they are unknown to the transmitters. Considering an outage event occurs if the destination can not receive a target rate, the optimal achievable average rate- outage probability tradeoff curve is obtained through the use of a multi-layer code at both hops, termed the broadcast strategy. In order to maximize the average rate, we propose an optimum power allocation scheme of both hops. Numerical results show that the maximum achievable average rate for the specific outage probability is obtained when the threshold layer of both hops are equal.","PeriodicalId":420837,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE 15th International Workshop on Signal Processing Advances in Wireless Communications (SPAWC)","volume":"131 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-06-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133695190","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The transmitter takes cost constrained actions to probe the transmitter-to-receiver 1 and transmitter-to-receiver 2 channels. Under the probing cost constraint, we provide a lower bound to the secrecy capacity of this setting. The achievability strategy employs a block Markov coding strategy in which the channel state sequence of the previous block is mapped to a key which secures the part of the confidential message to be transmitted in the current block. The challenge in using the state sequence as a source of the key is the fact that the legitimate receivers are not aware of each other's channel state. To that end, we employ a novel strategy in which the transmitter takes XOR of individual keys generated from the state sequences of transmitter-to receiver 1 and transmitter-to-receiver 2 channels and send the XOR-ed key along with the confidential message. We furthermore analyze the trade-off between the achievable secrecy rate and the probing cost constraint. We conclude that there is a linear dependency between the key rate and probing cost constraint.","PeriodicalId":420837,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE 15th International Workshop on Signal Processing Advances in Wireless Communications (SPAWC)","volume":"41 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-06-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114750501","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
