To use the Fourier transform adequately, some restrictions must be applied. Due to target's motion and manoeuvring, the reconstructed image by using Fourier transform becomes smeared. Therefore, some sophisticated motion compensation procedures must be applied to produce a clear image. However, the restrictions of Fourier transform can be lifted if a high resolution time-frequency transform can be used to retrieve the Doppler information. By replacing the conventional Fourier transform with the joint time-frequency transform, a 2-D range-Doppler Fourier frame becomes a 3-D time-range-Doppler cube. With sampling in time, a sequence of clear 2-D range-Doppler images can be simply reconstructed without using sophisticated motion compensation.","PeriodicalId":415923,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of Third International Symposium on Time-Frequency and Time-Scale Analysis (TFTS-96)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1996-06-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131066694","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We show that the PDWVD allows one to extract the instantaneous frequency of the randomly sampled signal. The effects of random and non-uniform sampling are studied. Two sampling methods are analysed: an independent uniform jitter and a determinist accumulated sampling. The effects of the sampling instabilities are given in an analytic form, in terms of the frequency accuracy of the instantaneous frequency (IF) and in terms of the increase of the sidelobe level.","PeriodicalId":415923,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of Third International Symposium on Time-Frequency and Time-Scale Analysis (TFTS-96)","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1996-06-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133217934","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, we identify further relationships between the design and construction of complementary pairs of sequences, filter banks satisfying the condition for perfect reconstruction and the property of losslessness. We then develop a construction method which enables a new class of complementary sequences to be formulated. Finally, we generalise these new sequences to form complementary sets, thus increasing the number of possible application areas for this class of sequences.","PeriodicalId":415923,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of Third International Symposium on Time-Frequency and Time-Scale Analysis (TFTS-96)","volume":"112 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1996-06-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132087288","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The extended Kalman filter is investigated for estimation of the period. This estimate is then incorporated into a rotational framework to produce a time-varying spectral estimate for a nominally periodic system. It is expected that the method will be useful for monitoring the intracycle behaviour of rotating machinery such as diesel engines, compressors, gears and bearings. Use of the short time Fourier transform for variable speed envelope analysis is also shown to be a necessary tool for detection of faults in low, variable speed rotating machinery.","PeriodicalId":415923,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of Third International Symposium on Time-Frequency and Time-Scale Analysis (TFTS-96)","volume":"41 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1996-06-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127701273","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper introduces two techniques for combining spectral and temporal information in the VQ process, with the objective of improving the recognition performance, while maintaining or decreasing the storage requirement. The proposed techniques are compared to an existent method based on the probability distribution of the time of occurrence of spectral vectors in the quantization process. The experimental results show that the proposed methods improve significantly the recognition performance and have similar or lower memory requirements to the reference method.","PeriodicalId":415923,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of Third International Symposium on Time-Frequency and Time-Scale Analysis (TFTS-96)","volume":"83 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1996-06-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116101399","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
