The aim of the study is to reveal whether the concept WORK is a hyperconcept in the language consciousness of representatives of the group distinguished by professional employment (cardiologists) in relation to the concepts representing the main objects of their labor functions (the concepts HEALTH and SICKNESS). The general research sample (1200 associations) was formed based on the results of two directional associative experiments with the words work, health, and disease stimuli with partial response constraints. The study was carried out on the integrated theoretical and methodological basis of psycholinguistics and cognitive linguistics. Scientific novelty is determined by the fact that the concepts WORK, HEALTH, SICKNESS are studied for the first time in the context of their representation in the language consciousness of representatives of a certain profession. The results of the scientific research allowed to establish that the concept WORK has a universal character and is an important element not only of the national, but also of the individual concept sphere. It was confirmed that in the spheres of employment requiring selfless labor, the WORK concept and the concepts denoting the main labor functions will not have a hierarchical relationship and will not act as hyper- and hypo-concepts.","PeriodicalId":415627,"journal":{"name":"Philology. Belyakova","doi":"10.30853/phil20240255","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.30853/phil20240255","url":null,"abstract":"The purpose of the study is to determine the influence of poly-artistic methodological support for the study of linguistic and cultural scenarios on the formation of lexical and grammatical foreign language skills among students at the Faculty of Translation. The initial understanding of the cognitive approach to teaching foreign languages in a narrow sense (only as a system-theoretical support for processes) led to its underestimation and oblivion. The article examines the current trends towards borrowing individual components of the cognitive approach for the development of a communicative method of learning foreign languages. The scientific novelty of the research consists in the introduction of a poly-artistic approach in the training of students – future translators through the adaptation of professional highly specialized exercises for the training of future actors, directors and theater critics for their subsequent integration into the process of studying English-language frame models and scenarios, which had not previously become the object of research. The relevance of the study lies in the fact that, despite many years of experience using a communicative approach in teaching foreign languages, many students still face difficulties activating passive thematic vocabulary and grammatical rules and, as a result, a language barrier. As a result of the study, it was found that in conditions of meaningful operation of language and speech skills, students present the educational process not as a set of rules or a set of information, but as a toolkit for independent creative language activity. Using the Kolmogorov-Smirnov λ-criterion and the Fisher φ*-criterion (circular transformation), the beneficial effect of artistic and methodological support for the construction of linguistic and cultural scenarios on the expansion of the thematic vocabulary of students within the framework of the theme “At the Restaurant” has been experimentally confirmed.","PeriodicalId":415627,"journal":{"name":"Philology. The purpose of our study is to identify the euphemistic nature of individual words and phrases functioning in these texts, as well as the reasons for the appearance of a veiled nomination necessary for the formation of a hidden assessment of the utterance. The scientific novelty of the study lies in the fact that for the first time words and expressions found in characteristics are considered in terms of their use to create a euphemistic effect and improve the formal evaluative orientation of the message. This approach makes it possible to expand the understanding of euphemization as a linguistic method of manipulative influence on the recipient. As a result of the analysis, it was revealed that, first of all, contextually conditioned euphemisms are used in the analyzed documents. These language tools, nominating the professional, business and personal qualities of a subordinate, are characterized mainly by ameliorative or neutral evaluation, which contributes to improving the professional image of an employee. To derive an implicit assessment in the semantic structure of lexical units, it is necessary to involve the cognitive context behind them, taking into account all the pragmatic parameters of the communicative situation.","PeriodicalId":415627,"journal":{"name":"Philology. The article examines the features of the interpretation of the fantastic by a writer known for his special approach to the philosophical and aesthetic category that has remained relevant for several centuries. The choice of different collections of short stories for the study is due to the need to analyze the category of the fantastic using the examples of texts separated by a time distance. Over the years, the writer has remained true to the principles of interpretation of the fantastic that he once defined. The scientific novelty of the work is related to the identification of several types of the category of the fantastic in the material of Dino Buzzati’s short stories in accordance with the writer’s concept of the fantastic. As a result of the study, it was found that for Dino Buzzati, the fantastic is not something exceptional, opposed to reality. The category of the unreal is associated with the motives of expectation and fear, which allow a more accurate interpretation of the features of the studied category. In the analyzed stories, the types of the actually fantastic, the conditionally fantastic, and the symbolic fantastic are distinguished. The connection between the categories of the absurd and the fantastic is significant. The category of the incredible occupies an important place in Dino Buzzati’s aesthetic system, influencing its development.","PeriodicalId":415627,"journal":{"name":"Philology. The aim of the study is to determine the ways of figurative interpretation of the semantics of movement in a liquid medium in Scottish lexical metaphor. The scientific novelty lies in the fact that for the first time in the Scots dialect, the semantics of verbs of movement in a liquid medium have been studied and described as a basis for creating a system of metaphorical images. The results showed that such a class of verbs is small and poorly differentiated. In the original meaning of the verbal lexemes of this class, such semantic components as “medium”, “speed” and “sound” turned out to be important. These components of the semantics in dialectal verbs served as the basis for a figurative assimilation of processes and phenomena of various spheres of human activity. The metaphorical evaluation of verbs in which the main semantic component of the original (nominative) meaning is movement in a “liquid dirty medium” is most often negative. Movement in such a medium served as a source sphere for the figurative comprehension of a number of deviant social actions, deeds, and human behavior.","PeriodicalId":415627,"journal":{"name":"Philology. Island German dialects develop in a foreign language environment, preserving many archaic language elements. The aim of the study is to present aspects of the study of dialectal vocabulary in a new perspective, from the standpoint of linguoculturology and historical semantics, based on the accumulated scientific experience in German studies and dialectology of various languages. As the linguocultural aspects based on the material of German dialects outside the main language area have been developed in German studies fragmentarily, the scientific novelty lies in the approaches to the consideration of the semantics of vocabulary of island German dialects in terms of its significance as a representative of the linguoculture of Russian Germans and substantiates the need to consider island variants of the German language in an interdisciplinary aspect. As a result of the analysis of theoretical aspects of cultural linguistics and dialectology, an attempt is made to show what ethnoculturally significant information is reflected in the semantics of dialect units, and to determine the perspective of further dialectological research in the field of island German dialectology.","PeriodicalId":415627,"journal":{"name":"Philology. The scientific novelty of the research consists in the fact that the author created a thematic classification of phraseological units according to the principle “from the concept – to the phraseological unit”, which can become the basis in the compilation of an ideographic dictionary of English phraseological units under study. As a result of the research, it was substantiated for the first time that all phraseology of the macro field “Law” can be divided into three phraseological fields: general legal phraseology, phraseology of procedural law and phraseology of substantive law. The analysis undertaken showed that the identified fields of phraseological units include phraseological units of a terminological or non-terminological nature, which can differ in their structure, origin, stylistic marking, semantic fusion, and degree of correlation with the legal sphere. The results obtained indicate that phraseological fields are open and dynamic. In the course of the research, it was also established that the phraseological field of substantive law is the most voluminous in quantitative terms and heterogeneous in relation to the concepts represented, which made it possible to further systematize it with the allocation of phraseological microfields. The article explores possibilities for cultural and pragmatic adaptation during the translation of such axiological meanings. The aim of this research is to uncover basic translation strategies of allocation of values encoded in the text culture. The scientific uniqueness of the research lies in the fact that in linguistics and Translation Studies, the possibilities of linguistic and cultural translation of axiological meanings, implicitly expressed in a text in an Eastern language (South Korean), to a Western language (English) have been demonstrated for the first time, which is due to cardinal differences of dominant perception in Eastern and Western cultures. Acquired results have shown that in the process of translation the “invisible” part of the text’s cultural content is transmitted by means of strategies of elimination of national and cultural specifics (skipping, compensation, substitution) and explication of national and cultural specifics (in-text explanations, translator’s comments, as well as bilingual publications with linguacultural information).","PeriodicalId":415627,"journal":{"name":"Philology.
