Objective: In this study, we aimed to determine influence of trichomoniasis on pregnancy outcome, detect the rate of trichomoniasis during pregnancy and to identify the risk factors of trichomoniasis. Patients and Methods: Vaginal swabs were obtained from 200 pregnant females with a gestational age of 13 to 40 weeks calculated according to the last menstrual cycle. Clinical examination, vaginal discharge wet mount, Giemsa stain, and culture in modified Diamond’s media were performed. Metronidazole treatment was given for all positive cases. Patients were advised to encourage their partners to receive the same treatment. Sociodemographic information was collected, and cases were divided into two groups, the study group (infected) and the control group (not infected). Pregnancy outcome (full term delivery, preterm labor, premature membrane rupture, low birth weight infants) was assessed according to the elapsed time from the first sonogram to the week of delivery.","PeriodicalId":41408,"journal":{"name":"Parasitologists United Journal","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2022-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44562672","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In addition, the critical step ABSTRACT Background: Permanent staining of helminths is important for different purposes including taxonomic and prevalence studies as well as teaching. Carmine is one of the most commonly used dyes; however, variable factors affect the quality of the staining outcomes. Therefore, it is essential to find an alternative stain that is efficient, accurate, and less complex. Objective: The aim of the present study is to evaluate the quality of a combined lactophenol methylene blue-blue glycerol jelly (LMB-BGJ) technique as a potential alternative for staining of helminths compared with carmine-based staining and glycerol jelly mounting techniques. Material and Methods: S. mansoni and T. spiralis were obtained from experimentally infected animals. A new staining technique (LMB-BGJ) was used for both parasites in comparison with carmine stain in case of S. mansoni and glycerol jelly mounting in case of T. spiralis . Comparison was conducted using examination under light microscope and a mean score was given for the structural brightness, and extent of staining of tegument/cuticle, suckers, intestine, as well as reproductive systems. Results: S. mansoni worms prepared with both carmine staining and LMB-BGJ showed moderate staining quality of tegument,","PeriodicalId":41408,"journal":{"name":"Parasitologists United Journal","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2022-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44037036","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

While immunomics identify parasite ABSTRACT Over the last two decades, omics studies provide a revolutionary advance of datasets in the field of Medical Parasitology for understanding parasite system biology, host-parasite interactions, and phylogenetic analyses; i.e., genomics, transcriptomes, proteomics, metabolomics. Together with bioinformatics, genome-wide associated studies (GWASs) enabled scientists to identify diagnostic biomarkers, promising drug targets, and potential vaccine candidates for diagnosis, treatment, and protection against several neglected tropical diseases. Omics approaches are either structural (genomics) or functional (post-genomics). To survive, Plasmodium spp. are able to delete certain genes unessential for their survival and growth, enabling them to evade host immune response. In addition, they undergo antigenic variations that lead to gene mutations in enzymes controlling drug uptake. Previously unattainable goals, e.g., host immunoevasion, susceptibility or resistance to infection, drug resistance, novel drugs as well as prevention and control were achieved by omics studies powered by bioinformatics tools.
