{"title":"Patients with eating disorders in the time of COVID-19","authors":"D. Sikora","doi":"10.12740/pt/140058","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.12740/pt/140058","url":null,"abstract":"The article presents the issues of mental functioning of people with eating disorders during the COVID-19 pandemic, referring to the selected foreign studies in which researchers are looking for data on risk factors for eating disorders during a pandemic. COVID-19 spread rapidly around the world, forcing people to take immediate action and change their lifestyle. There have been radical changes in social life for which society was not ready. Isolation and the need to maintain social distance, limited access to health care, which had a significant impact on the mental functioning of people with mental disorders, including people with eating disorders. Numerous studies are undertaken around the world to determine this impact, and the results obtained so far indicate a deterioration in the functioning of people with eating disorders. Therapists and clinicians are looking for the possibility of implementing modifications in the treatment programs in order to adapt them best to the restrictions, but also to the needs and goals of the patient. During the lock-down period, it was recommended to use a remote form of meetings, but not every patient and therapist / physician was able to find their way around it, as a result of which some patients remained without specialist care. As a result, the risk of complete withdrawal from treatment or its irregularity was increased and the mental functioning of patients deteriorated.","PeriodicalId":41405,"journal":{"name":"Psychoterapia","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2021-10-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45027983","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Psychotherapists who, without planning it beforehand, left their offices and sat in front of the screens, took a quick IT course and participated, together with their patients, in a great experiment: Psychotherapy in the Covid-19 pandemic. The authors used the Collective Autoethnognaphy method to collect and develop the research material. It is a qualitative research method, appropriate for the exploration of new social phenomena that evoke strong emotions and affect both individuals and groups. The research has shown that both, adaptation to work in the pandemic and return to offices are processual in nature, varying in pace and rhythm individually (for patients and psychotherapists). The emergence of transgression, i.e., a creative transformation of thinking, acting and environment, requires a favorable context, in which the key is the team support. In on-line psychotherapy, we collect different types of information about families and individual patients, requiring adjustment of developing and understanding of setting and contract. Introducing on-line psychotherapy to a greater extent than it was before the pandemic will allow us to use this way of treatment for those people, who found it unavailable or difficult to access. Opening up to consultations in a team, a wider environment and interdisciplinary work of psychotherapists is a supporting factor in the processes of adaptation and transgression. Remote work involves physical and mental overload of psychotherapists, hence additional attention needs to be paid to supervision and personal comfort.","PeriodicalId":41405,"journal":{"name":"Psychoterapia","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2021-10-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45268888","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
