A well-ventilated barn benefits the environment and the animals by reducing stress and improving air quality. The aim of this research was to evaluate the spatial variability of environmental conditions in a free-stall dairy barn using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modeling. Measurements of temperature and air velocity were made in the barn for comparison with the simulated results. The simulations were performed under steady-state conditions and considered the specific behavior of cows standing and lying down, as well as their distribution in the barn. The measured and predicted mean air temperatures in the barn were 21.50 ± 0.174 °C and 21.33 ± 0.213 °C, while the air velocities were 0.30 ± 0.196 m s-1 and 0.31 ± 0.197 m s-1, respectively. The results from CFD showed that the barn was not adequately ventilated, which could lead to severe problems for the cows inside. Consequently, the application of the proposed model CFD in simulating specific building design alternatives could aim to investigate the appropriate airflow distribution to find the best configuration.","PeriodicalId":413905,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Agricultural Faculty of Gaziosmanpasa University","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116027578","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Sonuçlar, en yüksek CO2 salınımının güvercin gübresi uygulamasında (0.805 g m-2 h-1) olduğunu ve bunu sırasıyla fındık kabuğu kompostu (0.658 g m-2 h-1), kümes hayvanları (0.541 g m-2 h-1), çiftlik (0.476 g m-2 h-1) ve koyun gübresi uygulamalarının (0.424 g m-2 h-1) ve akabinden kontrol uygulaması olarak toprağın (0.300 g m-2 h-1) takip ettiğini göstermiştir. Kontrol uygulamasına kıyasla tüm organik madde ilavesi uygulamalarında toprak nemi artmış, H2O salınımı ve toprak sıcaklığı azalmış, böylece CO2 salınımı toprak nemi ile pozitif lineer, H2O salınımı ve toprak sıcaklığı ile negatif lineer ilişkiye sahip olmuştur. Bu nedenle, CO2 salınımını azaltmak için toprak nemini yöneterek hem organik madde hem de azot içeriği düşük organik madde ilavelerinin (sırasıyla koyun, çiftlik ve kanatlı gübreler) toprağa uygulanmasının küresel ısınma riskine karşı daha koruyucu bir görüş olabileceği sonucuna ulaşılmıştır.","PeriodicalId":413905,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Agricultural Faculty of Gaziosmanpasa University","volume":"83 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122076210","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Many methods have been proposed in the literature for the calculation of drought, which is used to express the periods when precipitation is significantly less than the average, and two of these methods, \"Standardized Precipitation Index\" and \"Reconnaissance Drought Index\" were applied to the Yeşilırmak basin in this study. \u000012-month standardized precipitation index and reconnaissance drought index analyzes were made and compared by using the monthly precipitation and evapotranspiration totals of 8 stations in the Yeşilırmak Basin for the period 1991-2020. The results show us that standardized precipitation index and reconnaissance drought index methods generally give similar signals for wet periods, but reconnaissance drought index method defines more extreme dry periods than standardized precipitation index method in extreme dry periods. While the reconnaissance drought index method defines more extreme dry periods than the standardized precipitation index method; It was observed that the standardized precipitation index method defined more extreme wet periods than the reconnaissance drought index method. In drought analysis, using an index based on more than one meteorological parameter (such as reconnaissance drought index) will give more reliable results instead of using an index based on a single parameter (i.e, standardized precipitation index). It has shown in this study that the effect of evapotranspiration values in drought calculation is very important by comparing it with reconnaissance drought index analysis and standardized precipitation index analysis.","PeriodicalId":413905,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Agricultural Faculty of Gaziosmanpasa University","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129451940","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For this purpose, the effect levels of calving interval, somatic cell count, calving age, and parity variables on the 305-day milk yield of 148 Simental cows were determined. As a result of the decision tree application, the factors affecting 305-day milk yield were found as parity, calving age, somatic cell count, and calving interval, in order of importance. In addition, it was determined that the 305-day milk yield of the cows with the calving age above 5 was high, and the cows with the somatic cell count greater than 104.500 were found to be the lowest. There is a need to use the decision tree approach in order to examine the effects of other environmental factors that are thought to be effective on milk yield or other economic characteristics in dairy farming and to provide appropriate conditions by correcting the relevant factors accordingly.","PeriodicalId":413905,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Agricultural Faculty of Gaziosmanpasa University","volume":"70 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117175459","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the present study, the biochemical and molecular mechanism of acetamiprid resistance in a laboratory-selected Myzus persicae population of which the resistance ratios reached 57.5-fold were investigated. This study was conducted in the Isparta University of Applied Sciences, Agriculture Faculty, Department of Plant Protection in 2018 and 2020. Synergism, biochemical and molecular assays showed the absence of increased P450 activity in selected population. In addition, no point mutation in nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (nAChR), the target-site of neonicotinoids including acetamiprid, was detected in the selected population. These results suggests that high level of acetamiprid resistance might be developed via the mechanisms other than well-known mechanisms, such as increased P450 activity and target-site mutations. The population selected with acetamiprid showed decreased susceptibility to imidacloprid, sulfaxaflor, beta-cyfluthrin, and tau-fluvanite ranging from 1.54 to 4.76. Nonetheless, more studies are needed to support cross-resistance by Myzus persicae populations having different genetic backgrounds.","PeriodicalId":413905,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Agricultural Faculty of Gaziosmanpasa University","volume":"72 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125238712","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this study on apple, which is one of the important fruit species with economic importance, the color characteristics, biochemical and sugar contents of some commercial apple cultivars grown in Çarşamba district of Samsun province were examined. Wide variations occurred in all parameters evaluated in the study among the cultivars. The fructose content of the cultivars was from 14.22 (Royal Gala) to 34.40 g 100 ml-1 (Fuji), glucose content was from 1.30 (Galaxy Gala) to 4.34 g 100 ml-1 (Fuji), and sucrose content were varied from 2.01 (Fuji) to 4.52 g 100 ml-1 (Granny Smith). The highest value in total sugar content was determined in Fuji cultivar with 40.75 g 100 ml-1. The highest total phenolics, total flavonoids and antioxidant activity (according to DPPH and FRAP) were 423.7 mg 100 g-1 (Granny Smith), 96.1 mg 100 g-1 (Fuji), 250.8 µmol 100 g-1 (Granny Smith) and 952.9 µmol 100 g-1 (Granny Smith), respectively. In the principal component analysis results, the first component was associated with a*, b*, hue angle, total phenolics, total flavonoids and antioxidant activity (DPPH and FRAP) and explained 59.4% of the total variation. The second component explained 36.4% of the total variation of the obtained data and was determined to be related to L*, chroma, glucose, sucrose, fructose, and total sugar properties. As a result, Granny Smith cultivar gave remarkable results in terms of biochemical properties and Fuji cultivar in terms of sugar content. It is thought that the results obtained may guide the researches to be made about apple in this region.","PeriodicalId":413905,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Agricultural Faculty of Gaziosmanpasa University","volume":"144 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122064155","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
