All educators on the globe have faced the obstacles of abrupt adoption of distance education learning methods. This unexpected shift has presented numerous challenges as preparing an online course content requires developing detailed course plan design, audio and video content, and technical support equipment. This chapter focuses on determining the problems and developing solutions based on the student perceptions about the online exams, which were compulsorily transitioned during the pandemic process. A survey about student perceptions of online exams has been developed and applied to the students after they have taken the exam. Descriptive statistics is used to analyze the data. E-assessment of perception about the online exam system and its impacts on motivation and performance are discussed, and suggestions to improve the system are provided in the chapter.","PeriodicalId":413605,"journal":{"name":"Measurement Methodologies to Assess the Effectiveness of Global Online Learning","volume":"95 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129524914","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Educational data mining and learning analytics are two related aspects of educational technology that promote an overall effective teaching-learning system. The news media has the potential to act as a tool of learning analytics since they can easily access information at a mass scale. There are instances of leading newspapers organizing different educational programs where students from all the social layers have an opportunity to participate. A review of the programs reveals that all the programs collect and analyze educational data, which can form a research base of learning analytics. This chapter presents the description of three such educational programs organized by the leading media houses of India. This chapter also reflects on the contribution to learning management systems and educational data mining for the improvement of the overall educational system.","PeriodicalId":413605,"journal":{"name":"Measurement Methodologies to Assess the Effectiveness of Global Online Learning","volume":"274 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133230116","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A multiple case study design was employed, and 36 instructors from four different universities participated. Qualitative data were gathered through personal interviews and analyzed with descriptive analysis. Overall, the results indicate that the instructors in this research have competencies for all the ODL factors. Also, a majority of instructors has given their positive beliefs about ODL, but they all noted their concerns such as lack of interaction with the students and conveying university culture and lifestyle as the disadvantages of ODL. The study has revealed that almost every instructor has enough resources to give distance courses, whereas the problem is with lack of time for updating course content and self-development.","PeriodicalId":413605,"journal":{"name":"Measurement Methodologies to Assess the Effectiveness of Global Online Learning","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124863032","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A qualitative research is conducted to collect and analyze data. The findings highlight that a majority of the interviewed students have reservations about distance learning. Lack of internet facilities, inaccessibility of technological infrastructure, costs, lack of interaction with instructors, of motivation, as well as of understanding were among the major reported challenges. Moreover, results have shown that shifting to distance learning under the COVID-19 pandemic is perceived to be incongruent with the values of equity, equality of chances, and gratuity of education. These values are defended by all stakeholders in the education process. Due to above-mentioned challenges and solidarity values between students, distance learning was negatively perceived. These findings improve understanding regarding the challenges of distance learning particularly under crisis.","PeriodicalId":413605,"journal":{"name":"Measurement Methodologies to Assess the Effectiveness of Global Online Learning","volume":"44 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129860091","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
