Therefore, modeling can be beneficial especially for issues related to the tight coupling between computational and physical parts. In this work, we utilize the extensive research on the simulation and model-checking for designing computational-physical interactions in the context of CPS. We also propose an action-level model-driven activity modeling approach based on DEVS. We employ time intervals (TIs) to govern communication between computational and physical components at the level of actions. We extend the activities metamodel to instantiate activities suitable for time-critical cyber-physical systems. We create a DEVS-Suite generic library to simulate these models conforming to the parallel DEVS formalism. We demonstrate with a traffic vehicle intersection model and discuss some verification capabilities.","PeriodicalId":413389,"journal":{"name":"Spring Simulation Multiconference","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-04-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121833027","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

By using these characteristics of the BP, radiation dose to the tumor can be maximized, with greatly reduced radiation dose to the surrounding healthy tissue. If the secondary gamma rays that are emitted through interaction of the protons in the beam with atoms in the patient tissue could be imaged in (near) real-time during beam delivery, it could provide a means of visualizing the delivery of dose for verification of proper treatment delivery. However, such imaging requires very fast image reconstruction to be feasible. This project focuses on measuring the performance of a new parallel version of the CCI (Compton camera imaging) image reconstruction algorithm. We show two conclusions: (i) The new hybrid MPI+OpenMP parallelization of the code on the many-core Intel Xeon Phi KNL processor with 68 computational cores makes fast reconstruction times possible and thus enables the use of CCI in real time during treatment. (ii) A compute node with two of the latest multi-core Intel Skylake CPUs with 24 cores performs even better in a first comparison of both types of processors available on Stampede2 at the Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC).","PeriodicalId":413389,"journal":{"name":"Spring Simulation Multiconference","volume":"134 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-04-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125841419","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

With the increase of simulation resources, tools and models, cloud simulation is proposed as a new simulation mode which targets to integrate distributed simulation resources and implement wider range of flexible simulation analysis. How to correctly incorporate multiple simulation services together to accomplish a multi-disciplinary simulation task and how to tackle multiple tasks requirements are two important concerns. Numerous services with different granularities in cloud simulation can constitute a complex service network. The service composition steps to complete a task in service network are indeterminate. Motivated by these factors, we propose a new service network-based method for service composition and scheduling. In this method, the number of composition steps is uncertain before to be executed. The work in this study can reflect the characteristic of uncertainty of composition paths in the cloud environment.","PeriodicalId":413389,"journal":{"name":"Spring Simulation Multiconference","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-04-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123741324","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Recent model-based system engineering has also proved inadequate due to lack of a full-strength modeling and simulation (M&S) computational substrate. Such full-strength M&S support can help systems engineers to develop models of complex adaptive SoS that support design and testing of mechanisms to coordinate component interactions and enable such mechanisms to improve over time. Successful application of this paradigm entails non-trivial pre-conditions to be put in place. In this paper, we discuss some of the requirements in the context of healthcare systems reform and an approach using formal Discrete Event Systems (DEVS) specification.","PeriodicalId":413389,"journal":{"name":"Spring Simulation Multiconference","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-04-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128430319","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Providing high Quality of Experience (QoE) video streaming services is becoming a challenge for cellular network operators. This is due to the limited capacity in cellular networks and the impairments of transmission over radio links (e.g., path-loss and fading). As such, the parameters of the wireless communication on the radio access network between the Base-Station (BS) and User Equipments (UEs) have an effect on video streaming QoE. We study the impact of the wireless transmission parameters in Long Term Evolution-Advanced (LTE-A) networks on video streaming QoE. We consider both cell level and link level parameters. Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP (DASH) -based video streaming is considered here. We built a model for an LTE-A network and ran multiple simulations with various scenarios. We present and analyze the results to evaluate different video streaming QoE metrics, and to see how they are affected by the various cellular communication parameters.","PeriodicalId":413389,"journal":{"name":"Spring Simulation Multiconference","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-04-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134291170","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Sand extraction is now exceeding fossil fuels and biomass. The absence of data on aggregates sand mining makes assessments difficult and has contributed to the lack of awareness about this issue. A sand governance business framework is developed applying the blockchain technology as the main goal of this study to regulate the sand extraction and trade. Blockchain technology provides a distributed concurrency monitoring system for the supply management. Agent-Based Modeling and Simulation (ABMS) as an effective bottom-up tool is applied to demonstrate the application of the model. The sand providers and users are modeled as a collection of autonomous decision-making entities called agents. The agents interact with each other, the regulators participate in making decisions on the basis of a set of rules that are defined within the blockchain network.","PeriodicalId":413389,"journal":{"name":"Spring Simulation Multiconference","volume":"80 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-04-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131228021","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This and the lack of an overarching meta-model that specifies relationships and rules governing the various language constructs precludes their uniform application across diagram types. This has resulted in a large unwieldy and at best semi-formal language specification, with adverse implications for interoperability of modeling tools and model execution. This paper presents an executable language that re-factors the SysML language schema and offers an equivalent textual syntax for model specification in tandem with the existing graphical syntax. This is aimed at supporting the development of time based simulation models useful for decision support and architecture verification and validation in systems engineering.","PeriodicalId":413389,"journal":{"name":"Spring Simulation Multiconference","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-04-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117139140","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

From psychological point of view, although personal emotion is an important feature that has an influence on selecting music, there are some other significant factors such as age, sex, education and district that might have an impact on our musical choices. In this paper, we first collected our data based on an observation method called stratified sampling. In this model, we collected 2000 cases that were grouped into strata (as district in our data feature), then simple random sampling was employed within each stratum. We partitioned our original dataset into two classes, 60% of which we were used to train our models and 40% of which we were held back as a validation dataset. The dataset contains five features as follows: four features named sex, age, education and district as explanatory variables and one feature named music known as response or target variable. The response variable has two different levels, namely traditional and non-traditional so we were dealing with a binary classification. The dataset that we created is called MPD. Moreover, we calculated some important statistical measures such as accuracy, specificity, precision, sensitivity and F-measure. Finally, we examined four different algorithms using R which were a nice mixture of nonlinear (cart, knn) and complex nonlinear methods (rf) and the result in random forest had the highest accuracy with 86.8%. We also observed that the highest F-measure is gained by cart algorithm with 44.7% score. As we have not considered the person's emotion as an influential factor on musical choices, we could expect the accuracy of learning algorithms would not react at very high performance. Our results proved this claim.","PeriodicalId":413389,"journal":{"name":"Spring Simulation Multiconference","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-04-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130873471","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

With the exascale computing throughput purported to be bound by the 20 MW power wall, there is an urgent need for power efficiency in modern computing systems. Apart from processor cores and DRAM, the other chip components (typically collectively denoted as uncore) become increasingly important contributors to the total system power. In this paper, the uncore frequency scaling (UFS) is explored with respect to its effect on latencies and bandwidths. Next, UFS and core dynamic voltage and frequency scaling (DVFS) are compared as to their energy-saving potential through experiments on a 20-core Haswell-EP machine using the quantum chemistry application GAMESS. Results depict that UFS is comparable to DVFS in terms of power saving capability and when used in conjunction with DVFS, it can save energy up to 21% for GAMESS execution.","PeriodicalId":413389,"journal":{"name":"Spring Simulation Multiconference","volume":"47 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-04-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121051805","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Researchers are working hard to predict these disasters for minimizing loss of life and property. Proposed research used data mining algorithms on seismic bumps dataset which was obtained from coal mines for the seismic hazard prediction. Data mining is a powerful technique used to discover patterns of data. In this research, performance of five data mining classifiers was compared for better prediction of seismic hazard. For preprocessing of this dataset, discretization and resampling techniques were used. For modelling, five data mining classifiers were implemented and compared by using feature selection technique on the basis of confusion matrix measures like success rate, mean absolute error, kappa statistics, precision, recall and f-measure. This analysis showed that Random Forest algorithm achieved highest success rate by using feature selection technique and provided promising results for seismic hazard prediction.","PeriodicalId":413389,"journal":{"name":"Spring Simulation Multiconference","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-04-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114703607","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
