In contrast to the Doppler effect, the new approach allows one to monitor the movement of the target in the transverse plane relative to the direction of detection. The concept is based on a recording of incoming microwave power with the linear array of detecting chips located at the radar focal plane. Meanwhile, a power detection coefficient is assigned to each chip according to the spatially distributed square function. The feasibility of primary tracking radar setup operating on a new concept is demonstrated experimentally. The vertical cylindrical Fresnel lens focuses 5 GHz electromagnetic waves from the target into the image plane, where the horizontal linear array of chips with antennas and amplifiers records the incident microwave powers. The Arduino board and software are used for processing the data and tracking the target’s horizontal location.","PeriodicalId":413224,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE Asia-Pacific Microwave Conference (APMC)","volume":"44 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124422609","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The two Chebyshev passbands are in close proximity and symmetric about a designated frequency, where two neighboring zeros are allocated for enhancing inter-band isolation. In the synthesis, two successive frequency transformations originated from lowpass domain are employed to establish the dual-band response. With the aid of source-load coupling, two extra zeros close to outer passband edges are further created to greatly improve the frequency selectivity. A microstrip filter is fabricated and tested for validation. Measured results show good agreement with simulation responses.","PeriodicalId":413224,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE Asia-Pacific Microwave Conference (APMC)","volume":"63 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126353619","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The air gap existing between the MUT and sensor usually make large error in measurement, but by sensing with a multiring sensor, the effect of the air gap can be eliminated. However, in the case of a non-planar MUT, the curved surface of MUTs make the multiring of the sensor sensed different thickness of air gap. Thus, the approach of above cannot be use to eliminate the frequency shift cause by the air gap, and this will cause a undesired error in the experiment. Therefore, a triple-ring complementary split-ring resonator (CSRR) is used to estimate the effective air gap that make the smallest difference of the three resonance frequencies. Finally, with the transforming equation, a non-planar porcine fat with 10 mm thickness, 20 mm radius of curvature and 0 mm air gap are transformed into an effective planar MUT with 0.646 mm planar air gap. The result compare to simulation only with an error of 0.067 mm.","PeriodicalId":413224,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE Asia-Pacific Microwave Conference (APMC)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131345302","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The exponential taper is well known as a MSL impedance transformer, and the design theory is relatively easy, but it requires the use of staircase approximation for manufacturing, and has a problem that it takes time to manufacture. On the other hand, the linear taper is easy to manufacture, but has a problem that the calculation is troublesome because the theoretical calculation required for the design is given in the integral form. So, in this study, FFT is applied as a design method of the linear taper, and confirmed the effectiveness of presented method. It is considered that the linear taper is easy to manufacture, but it is confirmed by experiments that the measurement value would be affected if the linear line is not accurate. This method can be applied to fast calculation of the reflection coefficient of a tapered line having an arbitrary function as a characteristic impedance.","PeriodicalId":413224,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE Asia-Pacific Microwave Conference (APMC)","volume":"41 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134320851","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These engineered surfaces can be designed to control electromagnetic waves at will. Both passive and active Huygens’ metasurfaces can be envisioned. Unlike traditional antenna transmitarrays, Huygens’ metasurfaces can be made sub-wavelength thin and deprived of spurious Floquet modes, while preserving excellent matching characteristics. Huygens’ metasurfaces can be used to manipulate the phase, magnitude and polarization of incident electromagnetic waves, including those from nearby elementary antennas, for a variety of applications. For example, Huygens’ omega bi-anisotropic metasurfaces enable wave refraction at extreme angles without any reflections. They also allowed the demonstration of generalized flat reflectors having an arbitrary angle of reflection with respect to the angle of incidence and with 100% theoretical efficiency. Examples of Huygens’ metasurface applications to be discussed include focusing and lensing, polarization control including chirality, active cloaking, high aperture efficiency/low-profile antennas, antenna aperture beamforming with simultaneous magnitude and phase control, and electronic beam steering.","PeriodicalId":413224,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE Asia-Pacific Microwave Conference (APMC)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133004952","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Compared with solid-state high-speed photodiodes, terahertz (THz) vacuum photodiodes are superior in the aspects of high carrier mobility and low energy loss. To ensure high-power applications, rectangular coaxial waveguide and coplanar waveguide transition are optimized to couple the vacuum photodiode with a WR-4 rectangular metallic waveguide. Simulated results demonstrate that the reflection coefficients drop dramatically when the thickness of the substrate in the rectangular coaxial waveguide transition reduces to 10 μm. The transition using coplanar waveguide covers a wide bandwidth, and the reflection coefficients reach near -28 dB.
