However, the FCM algorithm does not take into account the local information in the image context. This makes the FCM algorithm sensitive to additive noise degrading the image pixels features. In this paper, an approach to incorporating local data context and membership information into the FCM is presented. The approach consists of adding a weighted regularization function to the standard FCM algorithm. This function is formulated to resemble the standard FCM objective function but the distance is replaced by a new one generated from the local complement or residual membership. The applied regularizing weight is a constant weight or alternatively an adaptive one. The adaptive weight is the Euclidian distance between the center prototype and the local image data mean. The regularizing function aims at smoothing out additive noise and biasing the clustered image to piecewise homogenous regions. Simulation results of clustering and segmentation of synthetic and real-world noisy images have been presented. These results have shown that the presented approach enhances the performance of the FCM algorithm in comparison with the standard FCM and several previously modified FCM algorithms.","PeriodicalId":412982,"journal":{"name":"2016 World Symposium on Computer Applications & Research (WSCAR)","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-03-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127457146","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This iris identification system consists of localization of the iris region, normalization, feature extraction and then classification as a final stage. A Canny Edge Detection scheme and a Circular Hough Transform are used to detect the iris boundaries. After that the extracted IRIS region is normalized using Daugman rubber sheet model. Next, Haar wavelet transform is used for extracting features from the normalized iris region then the feature matrix is reduced using the principle component analysis (PCA). Finally, both particle swarm optimization (PSO) and gravitational search algorithm (GSA) are used for training a forward neural network to get the optimum weights and biases. The results showed that training the feed-forward neural network by GSA is better than training it by PSO in an iris recognition system.","PeriodicalId":412982,"journal":{"name":"2016 World Symposium on Computer Applications & Research (WSCAR)","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-03-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123088629","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, a very huge amount of the processed information is considered private and many countries have issued laws to regulate how private information is collected, stored, manipulated or disclosed [1][2][3]. We propose the adoption and usage of XACML as a framework to map and specify all privacy provisions found in government regulations in order to enhance compliance. We have chosen health sector regulations in Saudi Arabia as a case study to demonstrate the appropriateness of XACML to map all privacy provisions.","PeriodicalId":412982,"journal":{"name":"2016 World Symposium on Computer Applications & Research (WSCAR)","volume":"195 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-03-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115271842","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An improved DV-Hop algorithm is proposed by changing the average hop-size. The evaluation of the performance was carried out on wireless sensor network localization. Sensors were placed according to two functions, pseudo random and sobol quasi random. The latter was chosen because it guarantees space coverage when space dimensions increase. Localization errors are compared to those of the basic DV-Hop algorithm. The proposed algorithm proved effectiveness in remarkably decreasing the localization error of the sensors. An important application is in a nuclear power plant process control test facility (NPCTF) where a wireless sensor network is an effective tool to collect data for fault diagnostics. The location of the fault is crucial. Hence, minimum localization error is of utmost importance.","PeriodicalId":412982,"journal":{"name":"2016 World Symposium on Computer Applications & Research (WSCAR)","volume":"42 15","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-03-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132915345","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Emerging wireless technologies, such as Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) networks, have a significant impact on improving the efficiency of the road traffic management system in Alexandria. In this paper, we propose an intelligent road-traffic-management system, which is inspired by ant colonies and the principles of swarm intelligence. Unlike traditional Vehicular Ad hoc Network (VANET) system, which uses cellular gateways, network access points and other infrastructure entities. The proposed model is better than VANET system because of its unique characteristics, such as, mobility constrains, ease of deployment, and without infrastructure because of the nature of RFID networks. Furthermore, this paper discusses the primary issues in reducing the randomness in current traffic management systems and other measures, such as security protocols including data validation and authorization services.","PeriodicalId":412982,"journal":{"name":"2016 World Symposium on Computer Applications & Research (WSCAR)","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-03-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130345969","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, implementing HPC using Cloud Computing is considered a powerful approach by isolating tasks, reducing execution time, as well as, price, and satisfying load balance. In this paper, an enhancement task scheduling algorithm on the Cloud Computing environment has been introduced to reduce the make-span, as well as, decrease the price of executing the independent tasks on the cloud resources. The principles of the algorithm is based on calculating the total processing power of the available resources (i.e., VMs) and the total requested processing power by the users' tasks, then allocating a group of users' tasks to each VM based on the ratio of its needed power relative to the total processing power of all VMs. The power of VMs has been defined based on Amazon EC2 and Google pricing models. To evaluate the performance of the enhancement algorithm, a comparative study has been done among this enhancement algorithm, the default FCFS algorithm, and the existed GA, and PSO algorithms. The experimental results show that the enhancement algorithm outperforms other algorithms by reducing make-span and the price of the running tasks.","PeriodicalId":412982,"journal":{"name":"2016 World Symposium on Computer Applications & Research (WSCAR)","volume":"75 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-03-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114755926","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Since the Earth does not exactly follow one of the geometric shapes, calculating the distance on its surface is one of the important challenges. Haversine and Vincenty formulas are the two major formulas used for calculating distances on a sphere and elliptic shapes, respectively. Since the Earth is neither a perfect sphere nor ellipse, using these formulas gives approximate results about the real distances. This paper presents and evaluates the two formulas by applying them on location -- based context-aware recommender system. As a result, the paper concludes that Haversine is more appropriate in the field of recommendation.","PeriodicalId":412982,"journal":{"name":"2016 World Symposium on Computer Applications & Research (WSCAR)","volume":"206 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-03-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115275823","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed solution is based on organizing cell cellular networks and the geographical coordinates. This means that mobile nodes are located thanks to their geographical position, which allows grouping the nearest nodes in a cell which we call Node Open Digital Space (NODS). In order to better organize the mobile learning system is a server placed at each Open Digital Space (ODS) allowing access to resources. These servers at each ODS are connected to a central server that centralizes all the data to identify the mobile nodes. This hierarchical architecture meets the needs of collaboration and latency reduction in a mobile learning solution that we want to implement in Senegal.","PeriodicalId":412982,"journal":{"name":"2016 World Symposium on Computer Applications & Research (WSCAR)","volume":"68 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-03-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122560828","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There are several methods have been proposed for image denoising. In this paper, a new method of image denoising has been proposed. The proposed method is based on using wavelet transform. Wavelet transform is best method for analysis the image due to the ability to split the image into sub-bands and work on each sub-band frequencies separately. Also, the robust median estimator has been used to estimate the noise ratio at the noisy image. According to experimental results, the proposed method presents best values for MSE and PSNR for denoised images. Also, by using different types of wavelet transform filters is make the proposed approach can obtained best results for image denoising process.","PeriodicalId":412982,"journal":{"name":"2016 World Symposium on Computer Applications & Research (WSCAR)","volume":"43 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-03-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124770516","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
