The qualitative study was conducted with a “case study” design. The study group consisted of 15 faculty members determined with snowball sampling method. The data were collected with a semi-structured interview technique, and analyzed with an inductive analysis method. Results showed that international academic mobility contributed to academicians’ personal and professional developments. However, the participants some difficulties such as established negative academic practices, staff constraints, inability to participate in decision-making and adaptation to corporate culture. It was also understood that some academicians are thinking of going back abroad because of the frustration with their promotion process. In addition, the academicians working in the fields of science and engineering in the newly established universities have problems with conducting research and producing publications due to the technical infrastructure deficiencies. It was determined that academicians expect project budgets to increase, strengthen workshops and develop laboratory infrastructures, and access to library databases. The regulations and laws regarding academic mobility for international purposes should be rearranged and the conditions should be improved.","PeriodicalId":41153,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Qualitative Research in Education-Egitimde Nitel Arastirmalar Dergisi","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2022-06-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78428522","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this study, the effectiveness of the instruction, designed by taking Cognitive Load Theory (CLT) as the reference frame and executed in the Dynamic Geometry Learning Environment (DGLE), was investigated. The study sample was four pre-service mathematics teachers determined by the purposeful sampling technique. Individual teaching experiment, executed in three steps (pre-evaluation— teaching sessions/instruction— post-evaluation), was used as the method. The collected quantitative and qualitative data were analyzed through content analysis. Findings showed that participants' mental rotation skills were basic or below, before the instruction. They had low mental imagery skills, inadequacies in mathematics language use, and misconceptions about rotation and its components. After the instruction, their mental rotation skills, compassing the mental rotation performance, mental imagery skills, mathematical language use, and concept schemes about rotation and its components, developed. It is recommended that cognitive loads be considered while designing instruction executed in a DGLE.","PeriodicalId":41153,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Qualitative Research in Education-Egitimde Nitel Arastirmalar Dergisi","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2022-06-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"73635686","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This basic qualitative research was carried out with a study group of 10 preschool children, 11 parents, 3 teachers, and 8 older adults residing in a nursing home, all of whom were determined via a criterion sampling method. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with the participants and analyzed through an inductive approach. Intergenerational interaction practices provided in the context of the study were considered to be favorable, original, encouraging, positive experiences. The practices were found to be pleasing for both children and the older adults, as well as being awareness raising, interaction and empathy boosting, positive behavior yielding, educative, exciting for children and making them embrace of older adults and feel responsible. For the older adults, it has been concluded that intergenerational interaction practices were pleasing, fulfilling of longing for affection, satisfying, motivating and presenting different experiences. Moreover, adult participants made some suggestions regarding increasing the duration, extending the content and integrating intergenerational interaction activities with school program. As a result, it can be concluded that intergenerational interaction practices have yielded positive outcomes for all of the participants and initiatives and researches should be carried out to disseminate these studies.","PeriodicalId":41153,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Qualitative Research in Education-Egitimde Nitel Arastirmalar Dergisi","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2022-06-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"75021827","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

According to the literature, the situation of paid teachers and master trainers working in public formal and non-formal education institutions was investigated in this study. The research was conducted with ten paid instructors and ten master instructors who worked for hourly salaries in Istanbul's schools and public education centers. The content analysis method, which is one of the qualitative research methods, was used to conduct the research. The information was gathered using a semi-structured interview form and a face-to-face interview technique. As a result of the data analysis, it was found that paid teachers and master instructors acted as denizen citizens. Personnel and trade union rights were the most prominent themes among the participants. When the research findings are considered, it is possible to conclude that eliminating low-wage occupations and security concerns will increase the quality of paid teachers and master instructors, as well as the educational system as a whole.","PeriodicalId":41153,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Qualitative Research in Education-Egitimde Nitel Arastirmalar Dergisi","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2022-06-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"81047316","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, contrary to their public image, teachers do not behave very differently from their students regarding violent behavior. This study aimed to examine how teachers in public schools perceived workplace aggression and what types of aggression behaviors were experienced in the schools and to develop a workplace aggression scale for the Turkish context. The study was conducted with a mixed-method approach, and in the qualitative stage, phenomenological approach was applied. In this phase, 20 interviews with public school teachers were conducted and the data analyzed using a descriptive technique. In the quantitative phase the steps of scale development were applied. The findings of the qualitative phase showed that workplace aggression was defined as \"Unlike general aggressive behavior, mainly related to context, workplace aggression manifests itself in workers' feelings of anger toward other workers, and victims of aggressive behavior feel uncomfortable or irritated by these actions. In the quantitative stage, conducted with 213 teachers, exploratory and confirmatory analysis of \"Teachers’ Workplace Aggression Behaviors Scale” showed a two-factor structure with its 53 items. The scale's factor structure didn't confim the aggression categories used in the qualitative analysis; for example, in the qualitative analysis, three types of workplace aggression were used: verbal, psychological, and physical workplace aggression; however, in the quantitative analysis, a two-factor structure appeared as overt and covert workplace aggression. In line with the findings of this study, practitioners were recommended to develop new strategies in teacher training and recruitment procedures, and researchers were recommended to conduct both qualitative and quantitative research more in the Turkish context.","PeriodicalId":41153,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Qualitative Research in Education-Egitimde Nitel Arastirmalar Dergisi","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2022-06-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"75905389","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The purpose of this research was to find out culturally responsive educational activities in Turkey as specified in the strategic plans prepared by Ministry of National Education, and national education directorates at province and district level. Within the scope of the research, the 2019-2023 strategic plans of 72 school directorates (12 provinces and 36 districts) as well as the Ministry of National Education were examined in terms of culturally responsive education. In this descriptive qualitative study, document analysis method was used. According to the findings of the research, it was understood that culturally responsive education practices were not included enough in the strategic plans, and foreign students were mentioned in the section of weakness, risk or threat. Similarly, targets that would either increase the enrolment rate of foreign students or ensure the academic and social development of foreign students were not encountered in the strategic plans. It is suggested that, culturally responsive educational practices should be included in strategic plans.","PeriodicalId":41153,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Qualitative Research in Education-Egitimde Nitel Arastirmalar Dergisi","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2022-06-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"76894375","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Today, as in the rest of the world, journalism academics in Turkey are faced with the need to restructure journalism education in line with the transformation of journalism and the problems as well as needs that come with it. Considering the structural problems of the media sector in Turkey and the need for quality journalism, the role of journalism academics in this process becomes even more important. On the other hand, in Turkey, where journalism education is a field with multifaceted problems because of neoliberal policies, how communication faculties and journalism departments can respond to the current needs of journalism education constitutes a critical issue. Based on these evaluations, this study focuses on the current needs and the pursuits for future journalism education of journalism academics in Turkey and their experiences under current conditions. With a qualitative research approach, interviews were conducted with seven faculty members of different backgrounds working in journalism departments affiliated to public and foundation universities in Turkey. According to the results, journalism academics had practices to structure training programs in line with the developments and needs in journalism and there were inequalities in this regard, especially in newly established departments. It was also revealed that the ongoing problems arising from higher education policies in journalism education generally complicate the efforts of journalism academics to respond to current needs.","PeriodicalId":41153,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Qualitative Research in Education-Egitimde Nitel Arastirmalar Dergisi","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2022-06-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"86949192","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A exploratory sequential design was used in the study. Interviews were conducted with 19 administrators using a semi-structured interview form to collect qualitative data. Quantitative data was collected using the Marmara Job Stress Scale. The scale was applied to 439 school administrators, and a t-test was used to determine if there were significant differences in the antecedents, consequences, and coping strategies of job stress. As a result of the qualitative interviews, it was found that the antecedents that cause most stress among school administrators are \"responsibility\" and \"difficulty with colleagues, loneliness\". As a result of the qualitative interviews, it was found that as a result of job stress, the administrators \"do not have time for their families\" and \"are offensive to the business environment\". According to qualitative data, school administrators were found to use individual coping strategies to manage job stress. The qualitative and quantitative results were interpreted together at the end of the study. As a result of the research, it is suggested that educational environments and legislation should be regulated according to the antecedents of work stress, which have a high effect on school administrators.","PeriodicalId":41153,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Qualitative Research in Education-Egitimde Nitel Arastirmalar Dergisi","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2022-03-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"86065407","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
