The study was designed as a case study, one of the qualitative research models. The study group included 15 school administrators from three secondary schools and four primary schools in Mentese's disadvantaged neighborhoods. The data were obtained through face-to-face interviews with school administrators using the interview form developed by the researchers. Data were analyzed using descriptive analysis and content analysis. The results obtained from the research show that urban poor students may have risky behavioral patterns, they generally experience failures in academic terms, their parents cannot provide sufficient support for their education processes, the schools they attend have to cope with a lack of opportunities, and that this lack can create an obstacle to the support that can be provided to the urban poor children.","PeriodicalId":41153,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Qualitative Research in Education-Egitimde Nitel Arastirmalar Dergisi","volume":"47 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2023-01-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"85569499","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the research the aim was to observe the effects of thinking through atonal music and its reflections on visual arts education as well as the cognitive skills and sensual awareness of the participants. The requestioning of the autobiographic outputs of the researcher with her students within an a/r/tographic perspective was considered important in terms of creating new meanings and actions in visual arts education. The study was carried out with the researcher and 16 undergraduate and 1 graduate student from Kırıkkale University Faculty of Fine Arts in the academic year 2021-2022 Spring semester over a work from Schönberg. There were 6 applications in total, each application lasted 4 hours. The data of the study consist of video and voice recordings, photographs, art works, poems, student opinions, observation notes, student diaries, performance activities, personal communications, Schönberg's String Quartet No. 4 Op. 37 composition and the 39 paintings that the researcher made for this composition. The data was interpreted through a/r/tographic inquiry. At the end of the study it was observed that the application of musical thinking with atonality acts to visual arts applications brought forth skills such as making deep interpretations, developing theories, solving problems, thinking critically, self inquiry, and the use of senses in a intuitive perspective within personal experiences.","PeriodicalId":41153,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Qualitative Research in Education-Egitimde Nitel Arastirmalar Dergisi","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2023-01-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"86613463","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

By using the case study method, one of the qualitative research designs, the research was conducted with a group of 20 classroom teachers who were determined through purposeful sampling. A semi-structured interview form was used as the data collection tool, and the data were analyzed using the content analysis method. According to the results of the study, classroom teachers defined the concept of research skills as a way to learn information, the effort to discover topics that awaken curiosity, and the process to recognize and solve a problem, as well as acting willingly, participating, questioning, and showing improvement. The teachers reported that the research skills of the primary school students were insufficient at the course levels and partially sufficient at the grade levels. Although the classroom teachers primarily used visual, technology-supported tools and inquiry-based strategies in research skills training, they believed that students' research skills were not fully developed. To develop research skills, the student should take part actively in the process. At the same time, the teacher should be a role model, bring interesting and entertaining activities to the classroom, and employ appropriate teaching methods and materials that will support research skills. As a result of the research, the teachers made the recommendations of increasing the technological facilities and resources of the school, encouraging students to conduct research according to their interests and abilities, supporting student autonomy, encouraging effective social participation, ensuring that the family environment and the teacher attitude is supportive to the child, conducting research on current issues, providing sufficient time for research, and assessing the behavioral aspects of research skills besides theoretical information at the end of the year.","PeriodicalId":41153,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Qualitative Research in Education-Egitimde Nitel Arastirmalar Dergisi","volume":"3 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2023-01-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"82003146","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, only a limited number of studies have been conducted to measure the effects of movie-enriched extensive reading activities. To this aim, the present study was undertaken to investigate the effects of movie enriched extensive reading on freshman students` TOEFL IBT vocabulary expansion and TOEFL IBT speaking section scores. In this regard, 40 students studying at an international private university in Erbil, Iraq was divided into two groups using a stratified random sampling method. Control group students (N=20) read and analyzed six graded readers by employing intensive reading, whereas experimental group students (N=20) actively participated in reading prominent novels and watching movie versions of them. A mixed methods design was employed to gather qualitative and quantitative data, respectively, so they were utilized to make better interpretations. Quantitative data were collected through 2 vocabulary and speaking exams related to TOEFL IBT as pre-test and post-test. Additionally, qualitative data were collected through interviews. Results of the independent samples t-test revealed that experimental group students` speaking and vocabulary scores increased significantly, whereas they were not significant enough in the control group. Moreover, students` attitudes towards reading novels and watching movies changed positively based on the interview transcripts. In light of the findings, this study may have some implications for researchers, educators, and authorities seeking opportunities to integrate extensive reading into the curriculum.","PeriodicalId":41153,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Qualitative Research in Education-Egitimde Nitel Arastirmalar Dergisi","volume":"19 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2023-01-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"74272233","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One of the psychomythological syndromes that causes women to lag behind men in work life is defined as the Andromeda Complex. The aim of this study, which was designed in the \"analytical research\" model, one of the qualitative research methods, is to analyze the Andromeda Complex, which expresses this redemptive waiting syndrome women experience consciously or unconsciously, and to determine the dimensions of the Andromeda Complex experienced by women. The analysis is based on three narratives that form the foundations of this complex. For this purpose, these three narratives, namely the myth of \"Andromeda,\" which gave the complex its name, \"Cendrillon\" by Charles Perrault, and \"Cinderella\" by the Brothers Grimm, were analyzed through the content analysis technique to determine the dimensions of the female depiction drawn in these tales. According to the research findings, emotionality, daydreaming, being dependent, not being combative, belief that a savior will come, and internalizing social gender roles constitute the individual dimension of the Andromeda Complex, while social gender, gender discrimination, and stereotypes form the social dimension. Awareness of the factors that cause the complex may contribute to the protection of women who play an active role in many areas of social life, especially in the education and health sectors, from this complex, especially in the workplace, to gain self-confidence, to their well-being, and their productivity.","PeriodicalId":41153,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Qualitative Research in Education-Egitimde Nitel Arastirmalar Dergisi","volume":"59 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2023-01-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78635563","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The research was carried out in the case study (multiple case study), one of the qualitative research designs. The data used in the research were obtained by using semi-structured interview forms. The data obtained were analyzed using the descriptive analysis method. The study population consists of the administrators working in the independent kindergartens in Sanlıurfa centrum in the 2018-1019 academic year. The maximum diversity sampling was used in the study. The research study group consists of 29 school administrators and 26 deputy managers working 29 independent kindergartens in Sanlıurfa centrum. First of all, regarding the problems experienced in the research, it has been inferred that enough support staff to perform the cleaning and security tasks were not provided to the schools. The administrators have indicated that the number of substitute teachers is high in the system and they do not have the necessary field knowledge as another problem. The fact that dual education is a problem in itself and that the Ministry does not provide a subsidy to kindergartens is one of the findings of the study. Providing schools with a sufficient number of support staff, ending dual education and switching to regular education, abolishing the practice of substitute teachers, and having the Ministry transfer subsidies to schools are proposed solutions developed by administrators.","PeriodicalId":41153,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Qualitative Research in Education-Egitimde Nitel Arastirmalar Dergisi","volume":"12 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2022-10-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"87880619","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
