Incubation curves were built in a highly acid Typic Udorthents cultivated with cacao (Theobroma cacao L. - Malvaceae), for which increasing doses (0 - 1 - 3 - 5 - 7 - 9 -11 Mg/ha) of dolomite lime (CaMg(CO3)2) and calcium carbonate (CaCO3) were used, in order to establish the type and amount of liming material (ME) with better reactivity, and the one that is better favored with the acidity changes: pH, Al3+, H+, total acidity. Models to estimate the ME dose needed to manage the soil in order to obtain the desired pH (≥5.5) were generated. Subsequently, the soil was then limed under field conditions and pH, Al3+, Al in solution (Alsol), aluminum saturation (sai), cation exchange capacity (cec) and N, P, K, Ca, Mg, Zn, Cu, B, Fe and Mn availability were evaluated. The results show that the greatest reaction of liming materials in these soils occurs after 60 days; applications of 7 Mg/ha allowed to raise the pH from 5.5 to 6.0 and decreases Al and Fe levels. These changes improved the cec and nutrient availability (Ca, Mg, P, Zn) for cacao without affecting other nutrients such as N and K.","PeriodicalId":41142,"journal":{"name":"Revista Corpoica-Ciencia y Tecnologia Agropecuaria","volume":"18 1","pages":"529-541"},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2017-08-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45445956","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A cross-sectional descriptive study that included 26 sheep lungs without clinical signs of disease from the north of the department of Bolivar, Colombia, was carried out. The relative frequency of macroscopic and microscopic lung lesions, as well as the association between macroscopic lesions and body condition were established. Ninety-two percent of the sheep studied showed macroscopic and microscopic lesions. Thirty-two macroscopic lesions were found: pleuritis (34 %), interstitial pneumonia (32 %), embolic pneumonia (13 %), granulomatous pneumonia (6 %), emphysematous bulla (6 %), verminous pneumonia (3 %), suppurative bronchopneumonia (3 %) and atelectasis (3 %). Pleuritis showed a highly significant relationship with body condition (p value <0.01). Forty-one microscopic lesions grouped as inflammatory disorders (63 %), insufflation disturbances, i.e. emphysema and atelectasis (7 %), cell growth disorders (22 %), and microcirculatory disturbances (8 %) were observed. Regarding microscopic lesion chronicity, acute (29 %), subacute (32 %), chronic (37 %) and chronic-active (2 %) lesions were found. This is the first study in Colombia that describes lung lesions in slaughtered sheep. This study concludes that most lesions associated with the respiratory complex are subclinical, and therefore, it is necessary to strengthen the use of diagnostic and control measures to reduce infection rate and economic losses.","PeriodicalId":41142,"journal":{"name":"Revista Corpoica-Ciencia y Tecnologia Agropecuaria","volume":"18 1","pages":"555-569"},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2017-08-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41715760","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Thus, it is clear that rural extension as an interdisciplinary practice that requires contributions from different social sciences. In consequence, it can be argued that psycholog y has a great potential to contribute to rural extension. Nonetheless, it has been mentioned that its contributions to the topic have been scarce. Aiming to understand the potential role of psychologists in the context of rural extension, a qualitative, exploratory-descriptive research was conducted. A total of 40 extensionists from the Argentine northeast provinces were interviewed. Interviews were recorded and latter analyzed following grounded theory’s guidelines and using Atlas Ti software. The findings allow concluding that most rural extensionists consider that psycholog y could contribute to their practice, but without being able to clarify its specificities. Additionally, exten-sionists highlight potential contributions in the area of group dynamics, conflict management and the understanding of farmers’ behavior.","PeriodicalId":41142,"journal":{"name":"Revista Corpoica-Ciencia y Tecnologia Agropecuaria","volume":"18 1","pages":"233-245"},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2017-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"68410875","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This economic activity has been carried out intensively since 2005 using submerged cages in the lake. With data obtained from the National Authority for Aquaculture and Fisheries (Aunap), the Autonomous Regional Corporation of Boyaca (Corpoboyaca), and the Chamber of Commerce of Sogamoso, fish farmers, their geographical location on the lake, production by these farms were identified, and with this information the amount of waste produced, including the amounts of nitrogen and phosphorus generated in this process was calculated. The results indicate that the lake is polluted due to intensive trout production. It is recommended to improve or modify trout production methods that will minimize water pollution.","PeriodicalId":41142,"journal":{"name":"Revista Corpoica-Ciencia y Tecnologia Agropecuaria","volume":"42 1","pages":"247-255"},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2017-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"68411045","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These nematodes can cause root damage resulting in low production. The aim of this study was to evaluate under field conditions the reaction of 16 genotypes of lulo, Solanum quitoense Lam. (Solanaceae), of the Castilla variety and the species S. hirtum Vahl., previously selected in a greenhouse experiment and categorized as moderately resistant and resistant to the attack by Meloidog yne sp. A chemical treatment and a control treatment, the latter based on the most susceptible genotype in greenhouse experiments were also included. The experiment was conducted in a lulo grove naturally infested with root-knot nematodes under a randomized complete block design with three replications and nine plants per experimental unit. The response variables were incidence, severity and yield. The incidence was higher than 80 % in all cases, but the severity varied because of their genetic condition; BR03 and BR01 being genotypes with lower rates of severity, with values of 1.0 % and 0.8 %, respectively. The yield analysis of variance showed significant differences, indicating that genotypes SQBR01 and SQLF04, reached the highest values with 4.77 and 4.74 t/ha in a total of three harvests.","PeriodicalId":41142,"journal":{"name":"Revista Corpoica-Ciencia y Tecnologia Agropecuaria","volume":"18 1","pages":"295-306"},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2017-05-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.21930/RCTA.VOL18_NUM2_ART:629","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43394513","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The main vector is Brevipalpus yothersi Baker (formerly identified as Brevipalpus phoenicis). This research determined the viability of B. yothersi to transmit C i LV to citrus plants, after been hosted in non-citrus plants. To virus acquisition, mites spent three days on symptomatic orange (Citrus x sinensis) leaves positives to C i LV-C2; then mites were placed on six non-citrus plants (Dieffenbachia sp., Hibiscus rosa-sinensis,Codiaeum variegatum, Swinglea glutinosa, Sida acutaand Stachytarpheta cayennensis). A randomized design with 6 treatments and 4 replicates was carried out. After scheduled time in non-citrus plants, mites were three days relocated on C. x sinensis healthy plants. Leaves of receptor plants, were evaluated to the occurrence or absence of symptoms and collected for RT-PCR tests. B. yothersi mites were able to transmit the C i LV virus over 85 % of Valencia orange plants (Citrus x sinensis L.), after feeding from 2-20 days on non-citrus host plants. The first leprosis symptoms on C. x sinensis leaves was confirmed from 14 to 51 days after transmission. The present research work further established that C i LV-C2 is a persistently transmitted virus. The implement quarantine diagnostic measures to prevent spread of CiLV to disease-free zones is suggested.","PeriodicalId":41142,"journal":{"name":"Revista Corpoica-Ciencia y Tecnologia Agropecuaria","volume":"18 1","pages":"307-319"},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2017-05-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43394914","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the department of Santander, Colombia, the transfor-mation of sugarcane juice into jaggery is carried out mainly in handcrafted sugar mills, which generate a permanent source of employment for rural families. However, according to the results obtained in this study, it should be mentioned that under the current conditions of artisanal production, this agricultural activity involves great physical effort and considerable risk to the workers` health. In addition, it causes significant negative environmental impacts during the production process, standing out changes in the atmospheric composition, microclimatic changes, and pollution of water resources. In order to contribute to the sustainability of the jaggery- production sector in the department of Santander, a qualitative diagnosis of biotic, abiotic and anthropological impacts generated by the production of artisanal jaggery are presented. The current situation of the national jaggery industry and the production process, from cutting sugarcane to the packaging of the final product are described. Identified impacts are characterized and some recommendations to achieve environmentally sustainable production process are provided.","PeriodicalId":41142,"journal":{"name":"Revista Corpoica-Ciencia y Tecnologia Agropecuaria","volume":"18 1","pages":"379-396"},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2017-05-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47794265","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Thus, the current study focused on the qualitative changes of four lettuce varieties, namely Alpha, Parris Island, Graziella and Lollo Rossa, stored at 5.5 oC and 90 % RH for 12 days. The analyzed parameters were water content, total soluble solids (TSS), titrable acidity (TA), vitamin C, total phenols, polyphenoloxidase (PPO), color and texture. Under storage conditions, the studied varieties exhibited different rates of water loss. TSS was found to increase until day 8 of storage, which is also when TA differences were observed. The Graziella variety showed the highest vitamin C levels. Total phenol content decreased significantly during the 12 days of storage. No significant PPO activity changes were found, except for those of the Lollo Rossa variety. Biplot analysis allowed observing not only positive and negative correlations between coordinates L*, a* and b*, but also the separavtion of the green lettuce varieties from the red one, together with color variations depending on leaf position. Although textural changes were recorded at the end of the study, foliage quality was not altered. In short, the studied parameters, which contribute to lettu-ce direct consumption properties, can be said to be variety-dependent and better preserved under refrigeration.","PeriodicalId":41142,"journal":{"name":"Revista Corpoica-Ciencia y Tecnologia Agropecuaria","volume":"18 1","pages":"257-273"},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2017-05-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44904610","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This disease causes progressive wilt and even death of the tree. The objective of this study was to identify the presence of P. cinnamomi in two productive areas of avocado in Ecuador using the molecular technique PCR-RFLP. Tree root samples were obtained with root rot symptoms in the production areas, from which 10 isolates were morphologically identified with Phytophthora spp. infection. To distinguish among the various Phytophthora species, a molecular analysis was performed using molecular markers in the ITSregion of the ribosomal DNA (rDNA). The ITSdigestion fragment obtained by PCR with the Ta qI enzyme confirmed the presence of Phytophthora cinnamomi in the isolated samples, and its association with root rot in the sampled production areas.","PeriodicalId":41142,"journal":{"name":"Revista Corpoica-Ciencia y Tecnologia Agropecuaria","volume":"18 1","pages":"285-294"},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2017-05-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48500361","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

According to the scientific literature, microorganisms with biofertilizer potential have demonstrated various mechanisms of action to solubilize these compounds and thus meet the requirements of plants. This systematic review collects scientific information that describes the mechanisms of action of microbial fertilizers in agricultural soils, published between 2004 and 2014, in three different databases; ScienceDirect, SpringerLink and Scopus,using the search path (biofertilizer) AND (bacteria OR fungi) AND (effect OR action OR mechanism). After using different inclusion and exclusion criteria, the search displayed a total of 63 original articles, including six unindexed documents. As a result of the systematic review, it indicates that the production of various organic acids allows soil acidification, facilitating absorption of elements. It was also observed that solubilization of P is the most described mechanism, by obtaining a solubilizing of 726.5 mg/L of P due to P. pseudoalcaligenes.","PeriodicalId":41142,"journal":{"name":"Revista Corpoica-Ciencia y Tecnologia Agropecuaria","volume":"18 1","pages":"335-351"},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2017-05-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.21930/RCTA.VOL18_NUM2_ART:635","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42264666","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
