As a consequence, many composition languages (BPEL, XLANG, WSFL, WSCI, to name a few of them) have been proposed in the past few years. However, a weakness of these languages is that they are difficult to use in early stages of development, such as specification. UML-S is an extension to UML 2.0 that was introduced to address this issue. UML-S allows to develop composite Web services according to model driven engineering (MDE) principles. In this paper, composite Web service development using UML-S will be described through a case study.","PeriodicalId":410930,"journal":{"name":"2008 IEEE Globecom Workshops","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131357894","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The model can be used to determine the throughput gain that can be achieved by 802.16J relay- based systems under a max-min fairness constraint in which the difference between the data rate delivered to all subscribers is minimized. Two variants of the model are considered - one in which there is no spatial reuse and one in which there is spatial reuse. The study finds that this variant of 802.16j system can deliver significant gains over traditional single-hop access systems: 40% in the case in which there is no spatial reuse and up to 80% when spatial reuse is realised.","PeriodicalId":410930,"journal":{"name":"2008 IEEE Globecom Workshops","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131403765","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper we focus on one such technique, beamforming, in the downlink channel. In each sector a number of fixed beams are used to serve users. For each frame the scheduler chooses a beam and then schedules one or more mobiles that lie within that beam. Since the basestation's power is focused on a narrow beam then the served users can achieve higher rates and the sector coverage is also increased. However, this beam causes more interference in adjacent sectors. If a neighboring sector schedules a user that lies within the coverage of the beam then the achievable rate for that user will be low. The neighboring sectors must therefore schedule users outside of the beam. This requires coordination among the sectors. In this paper we assume that each sector coordinates with the sector that lies directly opposite. We provide a framework and show what information needs to be exchanged and how the schedulers in each base station uses the exchanged information to schedule users so that beam collisions are avoided. This must be done with the objectives of high spectral efficiencies and also user fairness. We compare our approach with a simple, non-coordinated approach to illustrate the advantages that coordination provides.","PeriodicalId":410930,"journal":{"name":"2008 IEEE Globecom Workshops","volume":"58 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133216942","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Nevertheless MCP comes together with some shortcomings which have also been recognised. Cooperating Base Stations (BSs) need to be inter-connected via a Control Unit (CU) which gathers channel state information (CSI). CU is the entity responsible for performing MS scheduling and defining the transmission parameters. Under a practically feasible linear preceding framework, CU performs user scheduling and designs the beamforming matrix for the chosen users. Therefore MCP implementation adds a very significant infrastructure cost as it requires a CU and low latency links connecting cooperating BSs with it. Furthermore this entails an important protocol complexity in order for all this signaling to be coordinated. In this paper a new framework is proposed that allows MCP on the downlink without the need of costly modifications on the infrastructure comparing to the existing cellular networks. The needed operations are performed in a distributed fashion by the cooperating BSs and this is shown to be a good alternative facilitating MCP implementation.","PeriodicalId":410930,"journal":{"name":"2008 IEEE Globecom Workshops","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123913199","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the perspective to exploit these frequencies, several satellite missions have been proposed to explore the physics of the satellite channel. The strategic importance of probing higher and higher frequencies has been recognized by the Italian Space Agency through the ITALSAT mission that up to date has been the major contributor to the advancement of the Q/V band propagation knowledge. In 2004 ASI funded a feasibility study (phase A study), called TRANSPONDERS, Italian acronym for \"research, analysis and study of Q/V payloads for telecommunications\", whose main objectives were the improvement of the knowledge of propagation impairments at Q/V band and the evaluation of the effectiveness of PIMTs (Propagation Impairment Mitigation Techniques) in very high frequency band operation. In this paper, after an overview of the potential applications in Q/V band and the top level mission architecture relative to the selected applicative mission at these frequencies, the applicability of three selected PIMTs, such as site diversity, power control and Adaptive Coding and Modulation (ACM), in a Q/V band scenario is discussed and main challenges and key issues are identified.","PeriodicalId":410930,"journal":{"name":"2008 IEEE Globecom Workshops","volume":"383 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116371192","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper gives an overview of local positioning system topologies for WSNs of the European project RESOLUTION, which operate in the unlicensed ISM band at 5.8 GHz with 150 MHz bandwidth and allowed 25 mW effective isotropic radiated transmit power. The achievable 3D-localization accuracy is analyzed with respect to the performance of the designed hardware components and the indoor environment. It is further shown that accuracy as a primary attribute of local positioning systems also affects secondary quality-of-service (QoS) features such as update-rates or latency. This investigation allows an optimization of both attributes simultaneously, primary and secondary QoS aspects.","PeriodicalId":410930,"journal":{"name":"2008 IEEE Globecom Workshops","volume":"92 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126852605","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Assuming that neighboring base stations can be coordinated, we optimize the network weighted sum-rate via binary power control. The weights account for different priorities of mobile terminals, and are periodically updated to maintain proportional fairness. We design two distributed algorithms for inter-cell coordination which converge to a state where no base station can individually change its activity status to improve the weighted sum-rate of the network. Numerical results show that these algorithms achieve a significant throughput gain, especially for cell-edge users (up to 20%), compared to a conventional proportional fair scheduling algorithm without inter-cell coordination. Remarkably, the proposed distributed algorithms require limited feedback and achieve most of the throughput gain within few iterations.","PeriodicalId":410930,"journal":{"name":"2008 IEEE Globecom Workshops","volume":"40 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129120090","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The implementation in the 3GPP LTE VMIMO (virtual multiple input multiple output) systems as pairing scheduling (PS) is discussed. This algorithm makes use of the proportional fair (PF) scheduling to select the primary user, and applies of grouping method as well as a designed fairness adjustable pairing criterion to select the paring user which takes account of both the channel orthogonality and system capacity. The comparison simulation results show that the FAGPS scheme exploits the multiplexing gain and the multiuser diversity gain, while at the same time improves the service quality of the users at the cell edge. Furthermore, the tradeoff between the system throughput and user fairness can be achieved by varying an adjustable coefficient of the algorithm.","PeriodicalId":410930,"journal":{"name":"2008 IEEE Globecom Workshops","volume":"193 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134541716","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
