By surveying the available evidence, the author argues that this practice originated in the 4th century CE and was in use until the 8th century CE. This does not correspond to the drawing of the animal, which looks more like a dog. Aus der frühen und mittleren Ptolemäerzeit stammt eine bis dahin nicht belegte Gruppe von mehrsprachigen Texten auf großformatigen Stelen, die im Bereich eines Tempels öffentlich präsentiert worden waren. Abgefasst in zwei oder drei Sprachen/Schriften (Hieroglyphenägyptisch, Demotisch, Griechisch), stellen sie sogenannte Priesteroder Synodaldekrete dar. Diese publizierten Ergebnisse und Beschlüsse von Synoden der ägyptischen Priester, welche in losen Abständen an unterschiedlichen Orten zusammenkamen, um für den ägyptischen Kult(betrieb) Notwendiges zu besprechen. Trotz ihrer Bedeutung für die Erforschung der politischen, kulturund religionsgeschichtlichen Entwicklungen in der Ptolemäerzeit sind viele von ihnen nur auszugsweise oder in älterer Literatur publiziert bzw. diskutiert worden. Im hier vorliegenden Werk von Daniel von Recklinghausen, welches eine überarbeitete und erweiterte Fassung seiner 2016 verteidigten Dissertationsschrift darstellt, werden nun in extenso zwei dieser Synodaldekrete in einer ausführlichen und kommentierten Textedition zusammen mit einer historischen wie religionsgeschichtlichen Kontextualisierung vorgelegt. Es handelt sich dabei um die Dekrete „Philensis II“ und „Philensis I“, die an einer Tempelwand in Philae angebracht waren. Die umkehrte Reihenfolge ihrer Zählung ist wissenschaftsgeschichtlich bedingt und stammt aus einer Zeit, als die konkreten Datierungen beider Texte noch nicht abschließend geklärt waren. The first one represents an orans figure, the second depicts a crux ansata and the third has the names Pasep inscribed (in Greek) on the front and Phanes on the back.
