Curcumin is an active component of turmeric, has antitumor, immunomodulatory, anti-inflammatory effects. It was aimed to investigate the effects of the administration of curcumin on the energy metabolism, the abnormal redox defense mechanism profile, the malignant transformation indicator of Panc-1 and BxPC-3 pancreatic cancer cells. \u0000Methods: BxPC-3 and Panc-1 cells were incubated, were replaced with containing various concentrations of curcumin (10-125 μM) for 24 h. Cell lysate Adenosine triphosphate (ATP), Adenosine diphosphate (ADP), Adenosine monophosphate (AMP), Manganese superoxidase (MnSOD), and cytochrome p450 reductase (CPR) concentrations were analyzed with HPLC and ELISA methods. Genes expression of Lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), mitochondrially encoded ATP synthase membrane subunit 6 (MTATP6), Glucose transporter 1 (GLUT1), and cytochrome p450 were analyzed. \u0000Results and Conclusion: IC50 values for 24 hours were found as 47,26 μM in BxPC-3 and 45,84 μM in Panc-1 cells. Treatment with curcumin inhibits oxidative stress by increasing MnSOD enzyme levels. ATP levels did not change in BxPC-3 cells, but it showed an increase in Panc-1 supplemented with curcumin. The effects of curcumin on GLUT-1 are significantly important at a dose of curcumin of 45 μM concentration and affect glucose consumption in both cells. Curcumin showed anti-proliferative, and antioxidant effects.

This study aimed to determine past dental attendance, medicament usage, and smoking habits, besides oro-dental status, including caries prevalence and periodontal health status of juvenile inmates in detention centers. Material and Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted on 232 juvenile male inmates (mean-age:16.65±0.91) in a detention center in Istanbul-Turkey. After taking general demographic information, the subjects were clinically examined according to WHO criteria. In addition, the Plaque Index (PI) and Gingival Index (GI) were recorded at Ramfjord teeth to evaluate periodontal status. All data were statistically analyzed using the IBM Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) 22.0 programme, Pearson correlation coefficient, Spearman's rho correlation coefficient, chi-square test, Fisher's exact test, Kruskal-Wallis test, and One-way ANOVA test. Results: Average length of stay was 6.54±8.38 months. 44.4% of inmates have never visited a dentist. The mean DMFT, PI, and GI scores of the subjects were 6.78±4.07, 1.18±0.55, and 1.13±0.47, respectively. In addition, 80.2% of inmates smoked before being taken to the detention center. Conclusion: This study indicated that the oral health of detained inmates was poor. One of the health problems caused by these chemicals and agents is cancer. The aim of this descriptive study is to evaluate the cancers seen in those working in a university hospital between 01.01.2006 and 30.06.2022. \u0000Material – Methods: All healthcare professionals diagnosed with cancer between 01.01.2006-30.06.2022 were included in this descriptive study. The age, sex, occupation, working unit, and cancer type of the patients were evaluated. Data were analyzed with the statistical program SPSS-22 (SPSS Inc., Chicago, IL, USA). Data were presented using descriptive statistics (means and standard deviations for continuous variables; numbers and percentages for categorical variables). \u0000Results: Between 01.01.2006 and 30.06.2022, 186 people working at Sivas Cumhuriyet University were diagnosed with cancer. Forty-seven point eight percent (n = 89) of them are male; the mean age of those diagnosed with cancer is 46.0 ± 8.9 (min 22, max 62). The most common cancers are thyroid (21.5%), breast (16.7%), head and neck (9.7%), hematopoietic system (9.1%), and gastric-colon (8.6%) cancers. When evaluated according to occupational groups, 22.6% of them are office workers, 19.9% are academicians, 15.6% are workers, 14.0% are nurses, 10.2% are health technicians, and 8.2% are research assistants. \u0000Conclusion: In this institution, which has 2721 personnel, approximately 16 employees are diagnosed with cancer each year. The relationship between respiratory muscle functions and trunk stability has not yet been clarified. The aim of the study was to examine the effects of respiratory muscle functions on trunk muscle endurance in healthy young adults. Methods: McGill's trunk muscle endurance tests, which consist of trunk flexion endurance test (FE), Sorensen test (ST) and Side Bridge test (SB), were used to evaluate the participants' trunk muscle endurance. Respiratory muscle strength was evaluated by measuring intraoral maximal inspiratory and expiratory pressures using an intraoral pressure meter device. The respiratory muscle endurance test was performed with the incremental threshold load protocol using a threshold IMT device. Results: A total of 51 healthy young adults, with a mean age of 21.8 ± 3.2 years, were evaluated. The results of the linear regression models were significantly explained 46% of the variance in the SB and 38% in the FE, (for SB Adj R2=0.46, F=21.40, p< 0.001 and for FE Adj R2=0.38, F=15.65, p< 0.001). Respiratory muscle endurance contributed 30% to the endurance of the trunk flexor muscles, while respiratory muscle strength contributed only 8%. Similarly, respiratory muscle endurance contributed 38% to the endurance of the trunk lateral flexor muscles, while respiratory muscle strength contributed only 8%. Conclusion: Although respiratory muscle strength and respiratory muscle endurance were independent contributors to trunk muscle endurance, respiratory muscle endurance more affected trunk muscle endurance than respiratory muscle strength in healthy young adults.
