However, the tuning cost is large for deciding parameters when updating modules or dictionaries, or when porting an application for other languages or devices. We propose an evaluation system to collect web pages and corresponding correct data with visual check and automatic tuning of parameters. We confirmed the practicality of this system through the development and the two-month refinement of first query term extraction module.","PeriodicalId":408382,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE Fifth International Conference on Semantic Computing","volume":"258 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-09-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134308880","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In order to query Linked Data on the Web today, end-users need to be aware of which datasets potentially contain the data and also which data model describes these datasets. The process of allowing users to expressively query relationships in RDF while abstracting them from the underlying data model represents a fundamental problem for Web-scale Linked Data consumption. This article introduces a multidimensional semantic space model which enables data model independent natural language queries over RDF data. The center of the approach relies on the use of a distributional semantic model to address the level of semantic interpretation demanded to build the data model independent approach. The final multidimensional semantic space proved to be flexible and precise under real-world query conditions achieving mean reciprocal rank = 0.516, avg. precision = 0.482 and avg. recall = 0.491.","PeriodicalId":408382,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE Fifth International Conference on Semantic Computing","volume":"44 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-09-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127062401","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In many cases the textual definitions of these concepts pose a barrier towards information sharing in a formal manner. Moreover, although data models have been defined in standards to help formalize relevant concepts and their relationships within given manufacturing contexts, these models are not sufficiently rigorous to ensure system interoperability. In this paper, we analyze an ontology-based methodology as a route to expressively capture the semantics of concepts for improved interoperability. The approach uses a Common Logic-based underpinning which is used to define core concepts that apply to a generic set of production-centric standards. The method also supports the ability to specialize core concepts into more specific definitions, in order to target focused viewpoints. This then leads to the identification of an ontological perspective for the best practice organization of manufacturing information with a slant onto a part family and feature understanding.","PeriodicalId":408382,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE Fifth International Conference on Semantic Computing","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-09-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134185156","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Existing research works in this field face two main difficulties: lack of accuracy in their solutions and/or sophisticated hardware requirements. To avoid these issues, we present a light-weight, low-cost and high-accuracy system for localization and activity recognition, based on a smart phone and a single off-the-shelf wireless accelerometer attached to the waist. We process the accelerometer signal with the wavelet transform to precisely recognize different activities and obtain the velocity of the gait in real time. Additionally, we leverage the capabilities of the smart phone to accurately estimate locations making use of a multimode approach for radio fingerprinting. Eventually, we combine location information with activity recognition, observing a 9% improvement in the accuracy with which some activities are recognized.","PeriodicalId":408382,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE Fifth International Conference on Semantic Computing","volume":"11 19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-09-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124235721","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In terms of accelerometry, our approach makes use of a single off-the-shelf accelerometer on the waist to precisely obtain the velocity of the user. This allows us to calculate the kinetic energy of the person being tracked, and link the accelerometry data with the computer vision part of the system, where we employ segmentation of local regions of motion in the motion history image to estimate movement, and we leverage the number of pixels within the movement silhouettes as a metric accounting for the kinetic energy and the distance to the camera for the person being tracked. The fusion of the data from both technologies with a Kalman filter delivers an accuracy in the localization solution of up to 0.5 meters.","PeriodicalId":408382,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE Fifth International Conference on Semantic Computing","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-09-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128920624","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper presents a new task (with an associated corpus), namely detecting such justifications. We investigate the nature of such justifications, and observe that the justifications themselves often contain discourse structure. We therefore develop a method to detect the existence of certain types of discourse relations, which helps us classify whether a segment is a justification or not. Our task is novel, and our work is novel in that it uses a large set of connectives (which we call indicators), and in that it uses a large set of discourse relations, without choosing among them.","PeriodicalId":408382,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE Fifth International Conference on Semantic Computing","volume":"92 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-09-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128827036","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Despite their popularity, Web APIs are so heterogeneous in terms of the underlying principles adopted and the means used for publishing them that discovering, understanding and notably invoking Web APIs is nowadays more an art than a science. In this paper, we present our work towards supporting the automated invocation of Web APIs. In particular, we describe a framework that provides a unique entry point for the invocation of most Web APIs that can be found on the Web, by exploiting non-intrusive semantic annotations of HTML pages describing Web APIs in order to capture both their semantics as well as information necessary to carry out their invocation.","PeriodicalId":408382,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE Fifth International Conference on Semantic Computing","volume":"85 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-09-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133250002","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
