However, as the mouthpiece of the ruling class, Squealer’s character is worth exploring. Therefore, this paper intends to study his character on the basis of turn-taking theory. Analysis reveals that, to hold his turn, Squealer employs spacemaking strategies and monologue, which displays his duplicity and arrogance. Besides, he seizes the chance to take his turn by means of interruptions with irrelevant words, indicating his indifference and selfishness. When yielding his turn, he nominates other animals with threatening words, showing his hypocrisy and cunning. Conclusion is drawn that, for the sake of his class, Squealer tends to muzzle other animals’ thought to consolidate their rule.","PeriodicalId":408181,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Languages, Literature and Linguistics","volume":"75 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126284085","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The question is why it is so difficult to acquire these elements when a learner does not have them in their native language. This question points to a deeper reason that involves looking into the structure of L1 and L2 and understanding their differences. In this paper, we focus on Chinese learners of English, where Chinese is a language without articles. In order to find out more about the differences in the structure of the grammar between the elementary and advanced learners, we conducted a simple empirical study using a close test. The results show that there are differences between article use among elementary and advanced learners, and that advanced learners were more target-like in their article use than the elementary learners.","PeriodicalId":408181,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Languages, Literature and Linguistics","volume":"119 2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128484174","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the big data era, the demand of knowledge mining promotes the emergence and development of bibliometrics, and formal description of scientific knowledge is also put on the agenda. The application of RA move analysis to the field of knowledge mining is a new perspective of bibliometrics. At present, there are few studies on move analysis of Chinese RA introductions, and fewer studies are oriented to discourse computing. This study analyzes the move structures of Chinese RA introductions and finds out some linguistic features corresponding to each move. It is found that nearly half of the Chinese RA introductions follow the CARS model, but there are also unconventional structures. The linguistic features, including citation, negation, connectives and sentence subjects, are helpful for the automatic identification of move structures of Chinese RA introductions.","PeriodicalId":408181,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Languages, Literature and Linguistics","volume":"25 ","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"113981377","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The application of the idea of cultural comparison in College English teaching can make English teaching have a comprehensive application value. Due to different ideas and educational environment, there is a certain degree of cultural lack in College English teaching in China. The lack of culture leads to the abandonment of the basics in English teaching, and the lack of quality will also lead to poor English practice and application ability of college students. The promotion of comparative culture is the inevitable trend of College English teaching activities. We must strengthen the construction of the overall system of College English teaching and the shaping of English teachers' comparative culture research ability in order to improve the quality of College English teaching.","PeriodicalId":408181,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Languages, Literature and Linguistics","volume":"127 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121473464","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Its initial construction “kěài běn ài “ comes from “kě’ài běnrén”, indicating that this construction directly comes from the expansion of “referring to person nouns/personal pronouns + běnrén”. The expansion of “běn NP” affects its construction changes. The Chinese characters/syllables of the variable “X” are selected from the components of the variable “XX”. The selection mechanism is determined by semantic and prosodic factors, with semantic factors taking precedence. The variable “XX” can be general nouns, proper nouns and adjectives, mostly new media language words referring to a certain type of people, with high productivity. “XX běn X” means that the reference object is the typical “XX”, which is often used to evaluate in an exaggerated manner, and has strong resonance in the new media language community.","PeriodicalId":408181,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Languages, Literature and Linguistics","volume":"147 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115908335","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Creating these learningconducive settings can be challenging in a traditional classroom. However, learning a new language through context to connect words and definitions can be fun and engaging with a gamebased approach. Consequently, it’s important to create opportunities for this approach in a curriculum to diversify studies and excite learners about the language itself. Adding games based on their entertainment value may not translate into effective learning. Therefore, in this paper, a proposal for a gameful approach using a visual novel was evaluated. Ten industry experts from various fields of education were asked to review a game-based system that focused on acquiring language through reading and comprehension. The educational experts graded the system based on perceived acceptance and usability, learner experience and, qualitatively, its impact on education. The experts concluded that the system is an innovative and exciting implementation for language learning.","PeriodicalId":408181,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Languages, Literature and Linguistics","volume":"1021 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132001676","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It uses Fairclough’s three-dimensional framework model as the theoretical framework and Halliday's theory of transitivity and Van Dijk's theory of Ideology Square as analytical tools. The corpus was selected from the experts’ comments on Sino-US trade war published on the official website of the Center for Strategic and International Studies from March 23, 2018 to March 24, 2019. Major findings are as follows: experts in CSIS use material (56.49%) and relational (26.62%) process most frequently, followed by mental (7.79%), existential (5.84%) and verbal (3.25%) process, with no behavioral process. Experts in CSIS use material process and relational process frequently in their comments, which indicates that they try to expound the measures taken by both sides in the Sino-US trade war and the impact of these measures on the development of Sino-US trade war.","PeriodicalId":408181,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Languages, Literature and Linguistics","volume":"45 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126632761","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Data mining was conducted from 2006 to 2020 based on the database of CNKI and Google Scholar and analyzed by a systematic review and meta-analysis. There are a total of 20 articles, 18 master's degree thesis and 2 journal papers were involved based on the selection criteria. The use distribution and correction effect of different feedback methods are integrated. The correlation of another five factors (error type, teaching link, language proficiency, research setting, individual factors of teachers and students) was established. Several conclusions were drawn: (a)Error types, teaching links, language proficiency and research setting will all affect the utilization rate and repair rate of corrective feedback, and their influence decreases successively. (b)The response rate and self-repair rate of implicit feedback are higher than that of explicit feedback. (c)Prompts (especially metalinguistic clues and elicitation) is most conducive to learners’ self-correction, so as to promote their Chinese acquisition. (d)The utilization rate of recast is the highest, but its repair rate is much lower. (e)The utilization rate of repetition is the lowest, but response and repair rate is high. (f)The feedback rate to clarification is high but the rate of correction is low. (g) Metalinguistic clues are most likely to trigger learners’ anxiety, while recast can effectively reduce anxiety.","PeriodicalId":408181,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Languages, Literature and Linguistics","volume":"104 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124184666","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
