Social interaction and data sharing — being essential aspects of distributed collaborative applications — typically result in conflicting goals, primarily awareness vs. privacy. Preserving the end users' privacy especially in mobile collaborative settings is the most often-cited point of critique of mobile and ubiquitous computing. Since usability is a prerequisite for privacy and awareness mechanisms especially for mobile applications, we report in this paper on how to balance usability, privacy, and awareness trade-offs when building mobile collaborative applications. This is complemented by new approaches for preserving privacy tailored to the needs of respective communities in the domain of decentralized group-centric solutions. The requirements were gathered through an analysis of user's needs as well as first evaluations of prototypes. Those were built for different case studies focusing on privacy, trust, and identity management in real-life communities. We report on the outcomes of our work and show this exemplary with the help of a mobile prototype application to support an Angling Community with privacy and collaboration needs related to location-based services.","PeriodicalId":407855,"journal":{"name":"2010 International Conference on Information Society","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-06-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131402666","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Without simplifying the administrative rules there is a limit to which reform of public services can be attained. E-Government, as many have noted boils down to mere replication of existing services. In this paper we discuss how public services using ICT was significantly reformed by implementing the same business rules but in a very simple way by the use of check list. Specifically we examine the process of building plan approval adopted by a large municipal body in India and discuss the transformation that resulted when the same rule was implemented using checklists. The study is useful in the way that is shows that even without taking a difficult and risky route of process and rule changes, there are viable options that have the potential to improve public services significantly.","PeriodicalId":407855,"journal":{"name":"2010 International Conference on Information Society","volume":"81 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-06-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133003350","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Also in recent years, there exists web based or electronic service quality (e-sq) concepts. With the birth of electronic commerce, it has become important to be able to monitor and enhance e-sq. Therefore, this study examines the e-sq concept and determines the key components of e-sq especially for the healthcare industry. The e-sq framework is employed by the aid of service quality (SERVQUAL) methodology as the theoretical instrument. Finally, proposed e-sq framework is illustrated with a web service performance example of healthcare sector in Turkey by using an integrated multi criteria decision making methodology. This study should be of interest to healthcare and technology practitioners and researchers, as the findings shed light on the further development of performance measurements for hospital websites.","PeriodicalId":407855,"journal":{"name":"2010 International Conference on Information Society","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-06-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132650166","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The improvement of new technologies and users needs have led to new metadata generation practices, which include the author-generated metadata. By studying the current literature on the subject we analyzed the author-generated metadata quality used on a given IPTV service. From the results of this study we propose an alternative methodology for insertion of metadata by the service user, where an auto-complete engine is applied aiming to enhance the system's metadata quality.","PeriodicalId":407855,"journal":{"name":"2010 International Conference on Information Society","volume":"47 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-06-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121756806","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Motivated by the growth of social media enabled by the wiki technology, attention is given towards community participation in the heritage knowledge sharing and contribution. A new concept referred to as the community based e-museum (ComE) is coined and its conceptualization and structure is illustrated in this paper. The conceptualization is derived within the context of e-museum for traditional ethnic textile as an effort to preserve cultural heritage through knowledge management initiatives. The systems framework for ComE that was developed illustrates the facilitation for community participation to contribute to the heritage knowledge sharing and contribution.","PeriodicalId":407855,"journal":{"name":"2010 International Conference on Information Society","volume":"111 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-06-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114752162","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper examines the definition of the concept of social software with its design process and structure. We introduce the social software honeycomb, a framework built to help in understanding social software. Based on an analysis of an inclusive social network we revisit this framework discussing its elements, suggesting its expansion and how it can be used in the design and study of social software. We argue that the framework must be extended and theoretically grounded in order to address several points imposed by the “social”.","PeriodicalId":407855,"journal":{"name":"2010 International Conference on Information Society","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-06-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126827956","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
